QUOTE(net @ Dec 17 2006, 10:09 PM)
i think it is like a chicken and egg problem. piracy are ramping in asia because of high prices of games. if nintendo, sony and microsoft are able to manufacture games for asia region. probably it could lower game prices to as low as rm50-70 this would definitely reduce the demand for pirated games but for now we still live with pirated stuff because it is not affordable beyond everyone. original games cost in malaysia approximately rm210 and above while ppl in usa they purchasing usd50.

Once again, gaming is not a necessity. It is not a requirement in life. If you can't afford it, you probably shouldn't pick up gaming. It is not an excuse to resort to piracy.

There is never a justification for piracy. With Sony and Microsoft losing money for every console they sell, the only way they can profit is through the games. I doubt they will make it any cheaper than it is now.

Games for the 360 (Asian) cost around RM160-RM190 while American games are more expensive because it is imported. Sony games will forever be expensive because it is region free.

So now they need to spend more to translate the game and yet charge cheaper? Haha, doubt so man.

Maybe if the government reduce the tax on these games. Hell, transfer all the tax to ciggies and alcohol. Games should be tax free! biggrin.gif

Look at it this way, the smokers and the drinkers are going to spend because they are kinda addicted to it. So, more tax = more revenue for the government.

And by transferring the game tax to alchohol and ciggies, cheaper games here means piracy is going to take a big hit. Which is good for the government as well, with all their Ops Helang tongue.gif

And if higher tax for smokes and drinks = lesser people drink and smoke, then its a healthier community in Malaysia. In the end, its all beneficial. tongue.gif

Now if only I can persuade someone in the Government to lobby for it.
