Transfer of ownership - RM100
Puspakom inspection - around RM100 I think?
Runner fees - around RM300-500

Insurance (car dependable) - at most RM2000

Road tax (let say 1.5L car) - RM90

Total up around RM3k, wow they made quite good profit out of RM5k charged  doh.gif

Possible for TS to provide at least a guideline range so that those buying used car wont get over 'chopped'? I understand the basis that profit need to be factored in but not at an alarming rate. Some arrogant dealers just charge sky high prices turning a bad rep to other dealers.

Transfer of ownership - RM100
Puspakom inspection - around RM100
Runner fees - around RM300-500

Insurance (car dependable) - depends on the car value and NCD
Road tax (let say 1.5L car) - depends on the engine capacity

Total Ownership = Car Price + Processing Fees + Insurance Roadtax

So what range can we expect from Processing Fees for normal cars below 100k or maybe above 100k has higher fees ?

Now processing fees are floating from rm2k - rm4k! doh.gif

This is one of the main reasons I don't buy 2nd hand anymore. Used car dealers are just plain greedy!

The processing fees charged are different for all dealers. There is no rough guide or stipulation on how much the processing fees would be. It is up to the buyers to shop for the best deal and negotiate the reasonable processing fees charged by the dealers. To be honest, there are more processes involved in getting the loans approved and getting the car ownership transferred. Do you know that banks do charge transfer fees even though the transfer of ownership is done by thd dealer? Do you know that credit companies charge used car dealers processing fees ranging from rm600 to rm2000 for cases approved. Some dealers like us have our own MyEg systems so that we could spare you the trouble of going to JPJ offices for biometrics recognition. Even with that we need a runner/ office boy to send your documents to JPJ for registration etc.
Insurance and road tax are standard in terms of prices for your information. While I am not condoning used car dealers charging exhorbitant fees, there are still many costs and charges consumers dont see. Jke mentioned, its up to you as a smart consumer to shop around and get the best deals for yourselves.

This one i have to agree as some fees charged doesn't seem to be justifiable. They might as well levied the car price to earn the margin instead of charging exorbitant fees. While it is right to have charge for runner fees and service fee, but some dealers when inquired to breakdown the extra processing fee most of them unable to provide a valid answer at all.

Sounds like dealers can charge whatever they want.

I have been through selling cars to direct owners and also buying per-owned cars from showrooms,. None of the mentioned charges occurred while it is right for used car dealers to charge for the service provided but that is no reason to charge sky high prices to buyers that are not that knowledgeable. If used dealers are being charged that much by banks or credit companies then why not let buyer apply for loan personally with bank? Why insisted loan application must be done thru the dealer? Do you know that when i told the dealer i could apply my own hire purchase since i know the bank officers well and what everyone of them do is insisted else the car will not be sold if loans are not processed thru them. Sounds fishy ? Ain't it better to have buyers to do it direct with banks to spare the trouble ? doh.gif

Biometric recognition does spare buyers the trouble but going by your logic, why when car owners selling their cars to used dealers are not being charged a dim when using the said same biometric recognition and also runner fee for document errands and settlement? Only when purchasing a car then it is being charged? One can say that the fee is absorbed into the car price, then why not do the same when selling the car ? Put it into the price and spare everyone the doubt to discredit used car dealers. While i did met some very genuine used car dealers with reasonable fee charged and some bad apples really do no justice to these genuine dealers.

To answer your questions

1) Most Banks dont do direct cases anymore, Ie Seller to Buyer. So you will need the used car dealers to use their invoice to solicit the loan

2) Well, the purchaser will have to bear the costs. That is the unwritten rule of buying a used car. Dont ask me why but it has been here all along.

Well like mentioned, its up to you as the buyer to find the best dealer offering you the best and fair deal. I cannot comment on some of the exhorbitant charges applied by some dealers especially Kajang and Bukit Jalil. Like mentioned, you can avoid these dealers if they charge exhorbitantly and they cant answer what the charges are for. nod.gif
