Bedtime story from Vanguard...sorry if you don't like it, too bad. tongue.gif

Once upon a time, a young boy planted a seed in a flower pot. He watered the pot and watched it daily. After a few days, the boy became frustrated because the plant was not 'growing'. He said to himself, "there must be something wrong with this flower pot". So he transferred the seed which was just sprouting roots into another flower pot. He repeated this process a few times because the seed was not growing fast enough. Finally the seed died because it has used up all its nutrients trying to grow in different flower pots. The little boy did not know that if he had just left the seed in the first flower pot, by now the seed would have blossomed into a beautiful flower.

Now substitute the word 'seed' with 'unit trust'. I know, I know, you must hate this story if all your funds are in the red now. I am just trying to cheer you up.

Top Glove Corporation Bhd is set to become the largest company to offer Private Retirement Scheme (PRS) as a new employment benefit to eligible employees through a PRS vesting scheme.

According to the press release dated Feb 2, the company will contribute to Kenanga One PRS Funds offered by Kenanga Investors Berhad through the PRS vesting system offered by institutional PRS Adviser, iFAST Capital Sdn Bhd.

Top Glove’s appointed Corporate PRS Adviser, Paul Khoo, who is also the Managing Director of Standard Financial Adviser Sdn Bhd says, the Private Pension Administrator and Securities Commission have confirmed that this is the largest PRS vesting scheme in the country.

“PRS vesting scheme is something the industry have been talking about, but many are hesitant to participate. Now that Top Glove as a public listed company has signed up for the scheme, we are hoping that this would inspire other companies to consider following this footstep.

“By signing up to PRS vesting scheme, it is not only help to nurture the company’s talent pool, it also helps to look after the employees’ retirement welfare. This creates a win-win outcome for both parties,” Khoo remarks.

He adds that the introduction of a private pension in Malaysia was driven by the pressing need to provide an alternative avenue for investing to accumulate for one’s retirement.

Khoo also says that a lot of Malaysians are not saving sufficiently for their future, as a majority of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savers had less than RM50,000 in their retirement fund.

“With the existence of PRS vesting system, an employee can have another source of retirement fund, which they can fall back on after they retire. They do not have to rely on EPF entirely,” he adds.

Based on a monthly contribution of RM150, Khoo illustrates how much employees from different age group would have when they retire at age of 60, with assumed rate of returns of 4%, 5% and 6% (see table).

The Executive Chairman of Top Glove, Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai says, the company recognizes how vital talents are to the on-going success of the company, and thus always looking for ways to attract, reward and retain new and existing talents.

He is of opinion that the PRS the company embarks on is for the long term, and it presents an excellent avenue for the employees to build up their retirement savings.

not really. perhaps you should mention the place / area instead of referring to the whole Borneo. your statement may create some misunderstanding.
