Sigh... that debt make govt bleed assets and capital. We will be a while digging ourselves out of the hole, because we have basically sold the cangkul to prop up the hole

Labuan.... think US sailors prefer Singapore with advanced infrastructure, English fluent sarong party girls and Geylang.... tongue.gif

That's because every military procurement is a sunk cost by default. Things like MRT peojects, expressway,HSR and powerplants has massive economic potential (or at least could pay for itself)

Still, I'm pretty positive that after we finished with SGPV projects, we would be going to proceed with MRCA as our big ticket purchase. Navy procurement tend to be more expensive than other branch of the military after all

There's so many pre-loved F-16s and so on in the market. Why not get a bunch as interim. Better than to have a gaping hole.

Please... the debt doesn't magically have no effect just cause its paid off. The act of paying it off is almost like incurring the debt all over again. 2.6b not only just burn like Joker in Dark Knight, we still need to repay it and service the interest...

Can extend the MIGs life? Yes its dangerous but... what other choice?

On the other hand, there's the risk we won't see any replacement and a dwindling force in the future. Ie the pinoys after Marcos.

How NATO Advises Afghanistan’s National Security Forces

user posted image

QUOTE
NATO’s combat mission was replaced by a “train, advise, and assist” mission:
QUOTE
Only NATO Special Operations Forces are still training their Afghan counterparts at the tactical level.
QUOTE
Two U.S. soldiers—“guardian angels” or bodyguards—are discreetly shadowing the young American officer with their weapons ready.
QUOTE
While the NATO mission in Afghanistan officially consists of training, assisting and advising, most of the time spent here in Kandahar is focused on advising—a mission “easy to define but difficult to execute” according to one U.S. officer
QUOTE
“A soldier used to need 46 signatures to reenlist, we helped them reduce it to 14,”
QUOTE
Due to insecure Afghan networks, U.S. advisors have to physically obtain copies of Afghan reports and bring them back to their base where they are then translated.
QUOTE
Consequently, one Colonel emphasized “it is not about winning or losing but about bringing the Afghan National Security and Defense Forces to the threshold of success.”

Russia will start construction of two new generation small missile ships

user posted image

QUOTE
"The ships will be codenamed Uragan and Taifun and will enter service in the Navy in 2017 and 2018 after their construction and trials are over," he said.
QUOTE
According to the admiral, the ships have a displacement of about 800 tons and are capable of developing a speed of over 30 knots and accomplishing missions at a distance of around 3,000 nautical miles from their bases.
QUOTE
According to Chirkov, the armament of the new Project ships will match the weapons suite of Buyan-M-class missile ships armed with Kalibr missile systems. At the same time, the new corvettes will differ "by ocean-and sea-going characteristics," he said.

The problem with small ship like Buyan-M or Gepard carrying Tomahawk class cruise missile is that the ship will become highly specialized. Which mean's Buyan-M that launch a Cruise Missile from Caspian sea last month will have very limited anti-air, anti-ship and anti-sub capability. The smallest ship in the western navy that carry cruise missile is destroyer size, like Arleigh Burke.
