I hv been traveling for ages lah...anyway i dunwan to argue wth u & let me chk again. Most of japanese hotels actually welcome xtra pax without any charges. I'm sure I hv chk. I will lodge a complain wth agoda for sure. I'm not new wth them & been using them since early 2000.

As far as I know in Japan, mostly they charge by "head" and not rooms. Look at all the travel pamphlet here, price is always by number of person and not rooms. Thats what they advertise at least to the locals here. Good or Bad, Japan is very "rule base". Not so easy to "bengkok".

if they are so good, why don't they expand??
*
Some people think about quality and want to control what is being served. If they expand then it become very franchised and its difficult to control the quality. That is the reason why in Japan those really expensive food you seldom them expanding. Its also a kind of branding to make it more exclusive and not a McDonald or KFC.

Hi all sifu's

On Monday I'm taking this journey:
22min connection should be pretty reasonable. But ... am I right in assuming that there wouldn't be enough time to go hunt down an ekiben shop, choose a bento, pay for it, and still navigate to the shinkansen track on time?

Cos it's around dinner time, scared hungry leh. More realistic to just order something on the 2nd train?
*
Should not be an issue as after you enter the shinkansen gate there are some ekiben. Of course if you really want nice bento, it will be outside shinkansen gate. Lost of bento there. Do note that Narita Express is pretty "deep down" and take a bit of your time to go up.

sacwoc thanks! I was thinking of hunting down ekiben-ya matsuri or daimaru cos Google say their ekiben is nice, but I guess trying to do that within a 20min time frame while dragging luggage along in an unfamiliar place isn't really feasible.

Good to know there are other shops along the way though, will just hantam a random one that looks nice 👍🏿
*
If you are really thinking about daimaru, dont think you can make it. Daimaru is a dept store besides Tokyo station. Its connected and you will need to know your way round and which exit. Furthermore at your time, sure there will be a lot of people.

The good thing is that there are more "things" to see and you will feel the carnival atmosphere. Also there might be some sale as well. For me, I just stay at home and watch TV as I hate crowds.

about tax refund, do we need to buy above 10,000¥ in a single receipt??
*
Same day same store. Also for food like jagabee, toiletries, etc, you only need to spend 5000yen to get refund. You will need to search what falls under which category.

hello everyone! i have a question to ask on train routes using seishun 18 kippu. i am flying in march 2016.

i am planning my itinerary from osaka to fukuoka. i am using hyperdia to plan. for some reason when i tried to search for trains from yamaguchi to fukuoka, it said no results. i tried from hiroshima to fukuoka also didn't yield result.

is this normal? or does that mean i have to find other places to drop by before going to fukuoka?

ur help/advise is highly appreciated.

my current planning is like this:

osaka (after airport) > okayama (one night) > fukuyama (> 3 hours) > hiroshima (3 nights) > yamaguchi (< 5 hours) > fukuoka (2 nights) >  kyoto > osaka
*
Try searching using some cities in Fukuoka like Hakata and you will get some results. Also you have to click on more options and removed those transport the 18kippu is not valid like shinkansen. Also there is a possibility that some night limited express is valid. I did used 18Kippu more than 15 years ago. It was fun but tiring!

My original plan was:

26 to 29 April Tokyo
29 to 30 April - Nagoya
30 April to 1 May - Hiroshima
1 to 3 May - Osaka
3 to 5 May - Tokyo
If that is too difficult and risky, I may change to Plan B:

26 to 30 - Tokyo (Disneyland)
30 April to 3 May - Osaka
3 - 5 May - Tokyo

Whats your thoughts?

Is it possible to purchase Tokyo Osaka return Shinkansen ticket before arriving to Japan? If yes, how?
*
Another alternatives which is more expensive is to book a flight from Tokyo to Osaka. That at least you are guarantee a seat and you can book now

I did this in the UK and some European countries. It worked.
but it must be debit cards lah, CC sure cannot.
Big grocery stores (like those as big as Tesco or Carrefour in M'sia) also cannot use CC/debit cards?  rclxub.gif

then where can use CC??
*
Actually quite a number of place used CC now. I use my CC in Starbucks, and convenience store. Besides that supermarket chain like Jusco and Maruetsu accept CC even for things less than 1000yen. Of course if you are talking about those grocery own by families, chances are high they dont accept CC.
However I am using a Japan CC, but I guess its the same for non Japanese CC.

Do u reckon getting those boots like the ones worn by Phua Chu Kang is okay to replace winter boots?
Haha. Just trying to save some cost as going for a budget trip.
*
Also the floor will be very slippery as well especially when the snow melts. Winter boots normally is a bit spiky to prevent you from falling. Maybe you can use PCK boots plus those non slip cleats that can be put on to your boots. For me I bought a cheap winter shoes in Tokyo which cost me about 6000yen. DOnt think you can use it in Malaysia though as your feet will surely sweat

Japan do not have any religious holiday. Even Christmas is not a holiday. Holidays will be like Chlldren day, Marine Day, Culture Day, etc.

if im not mistaken docomo do have this kind of sim card just i not sure thats y im asking  blush.gif
>> i think i found it with U-mobile http://umobile.jp/d/lp/prepaid/eng.html
*
You should be able to find NTT and Softbank in KIX. Google it and you will be able to find. Price should be the same. If you want other cheaper options, then you might need to be prepare for slow lines or no network in certain places.

Hi guys,

Good day, well 3 more weeks and i'm flying off to Tokyo.
Here i wanna ask some question for those who are experienced travelling to Tokyo.

My friend who is travelling with me would like to buy Samantha Thavasa bag for his gf.
I tried searching and found quite a few of this brand shop in Tokyo.

My question is, other than this brand shop which normally is located in shopping centre, where else can i find branded goods? (eg: places like Ginza? or so, can i get some names of places that you guys can recommend?)

Thank you.
*
There is one ST shop in Ginza.

i heard from a friend saying that it's consider rude to wear shorts in japan.

is it true? planning to wear shorts in japan during my trip in 2 weeks time.
*
I always wear shorts wherever I go during summer. Nothing wrong with that. Here you walk more than drive and summer is much worse than Malaysia. UNless of course you plan to go to some fancy restaurant that has dress code.

I live in Taiwan and its 110V here.

Alternatively the EH-NA56 is 100V-240V if I recall.
*
EH-NA57 can actually switch between 110V and 240V. There is a knob which allows you to select.
