Err.. KochiKame had surpassed not only 30 volumes, but 30 years of publication, and not only it's still running, it still kicks ass. Sazan Aizu ended at volume 40, Rekka no Honoo at 33. Thus you can make a manga that runs more than 30 volume and still be good at it.

I can read japanese, so I don't care if it's licenced in english. Either way, I won't buy the english version.

i rarely manage my manga collection, so most of the times, there are lots of multiple copies lying around.

heck, nice list you have there. now, what i need you to do is to filter out shoujo & fantasy (super power and such infinity) manga so i can be left with shounen titles for me to download... heheheh

edit: and also lucky you! you can read japanese! URDAN have a huge collection of good raws that i can never read unless somebody is kind enuf to scanlate them

A neighbour bought a complete edition set of City Hunter and Kimagure Orange Road during his time in Japan and I want to read that... during that time I was learning Japanese just to read them. It took me another year before I was introduced to the world of internet and scanlations, during which time those skills that I learnt from my neighbour was good enough to read the furigana in shounen's manga XD

Licensed mango are terrible.

Sound effect texts doesn't belong in English. Seeing fancy curvy "WOOSH~" when a mango character runs is just plain goofy.

How much does 500gig external HDD sell for, by the way? I really need one right now.

what for? just plug the 500gb into your pc and let your mango be accessible anytime.

they seriously cant help it. if they dun, some will claim they are being lazy. beside, some of the licensed english manga leave the original japanese sound effect with a small english translate. no fancy woosh~ stuff. neway, its kinda normal to see that, especially u read english comic (Marvel, DC stuff). so i find it, i can live with it unless, they majorly screw up their name, like Casey n friends.

Backup in DVD form is good. i used to store everythin in hdd, until my 250 gb hdd which i bought no longer than 2 months die on me. the warranty cover the HDD, but not the files. i lost a lot of thing in that hdd, including some program, manga, animu n even my portfolio.

I lost my manga collections 3 times, but backup software almost always saved me XD
anyways, I found that DVD are easily corruptable.
On licenced vs original, some licenced that changed the reading format (left to right instead of right to left) can sometimes be confusing. Initial D was notoious for this. Also, some translators tends to change the meaning that the original mangaka writes. Reading Dark Horse's version of Blade of the Immortal is different from reading the original Mugen no Jyuunin. You will find that Mugen no Jyuunin has a darker tone to it but with more lighthearted scenes here and there

Do tell about this "backup software" thing, I'm intrigued.

How easily corruptable are DVDs, rly? I simply must know! (I've been verily paranoid of my stuffs going "poof" ever since my HDD died for the first time sometime last year, been backing up shit on DVDs frequently since then)

and not to mention: those americans really stress and elabrotae the dialogues, where the japs prefer it to be simple and let the mango drawings do all the talkings

Mango can also have long ass dialogues too, but the difference is that they don't cram 438756432876 words into a tiny speech bubble, like their Amerikkan counterparts do (mainly due to Amerikkans who MUST have colored artwork printed on nice paper in their funnybooks, thus significantly raising their production cost, and thus artists can't spend too much frames on unsignificant minor details, so dialogues that are supposed to last 10 minutes are crammed inside a tiny bubble. Unlike mangos, which are usually printed on shit paper in black and white, where the artists have tonnes of pages to freely throw around with).

Not quite. Depends on the translator. Viz has good translating teams now that it's co owned by Shueisha Japan plus rereleasing their old mangas with the correct translation and original Right to Left format, and Tokyopop put aside their Tokyocrap days to be a rival to Viz. Still depends on how well can the translator grasp what the mangaka wants to say. In the end of the day, you cannot translate something and expect it to be 100% accurate

i know some of the english translated manga that i bought seem dont have any much flaw in translating it, (well cant really tell since i cant read jap thus cant compare much).

just a wondering why people is bias toward licensed english translated manga.
