Hmm... The smallest cassette i could find was 11t and it has to be bought from amazonπŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… so i think i would still stick to the crankset as oem crank isnt in good condition... So do u suggest a 60t chainring or perhaps a smaller one?
*
Hmmm... 60T chainring? Are you sure? How big are your legs??

That little bike with the 70T chainring is just crazy. I don't get it..... Say you can get it to 30-35kmh, it will be like why?? LOL

Wow, side by side, the 451s are quite a bit larger eh? Where's a good place to get a nice set of 451 in KL?

Bro, where did you buy yours? S'pore?

depends on brand. most of good exotic wheelset u can get easily at vans urban. but the price, u know lah..

got few more brand.u can either get a decaf wheelset also around rm700+ and one more brand forgot the name around rm400+ that can easily fit tern & dahon.the wheelset also come in disk version or vbrake version.

but please be noted,
take extra caution for the front hub as dahon and tern mostly sized 67mm unlike normal bike 100mm.mine already change the fork and its can occupied 100mm front hub.
and
NOT ALL FRAME CAN accept 451 wheelset.must try and error 1st.v brake also need to mod or change to caliper brakes unless ur bike is using diskbrakes..
*
I have a feeling that the V brakes will need to be modified and the mudguards won't fit. Need to think if it is worth doing....

Isn't Brompton is king of folding bike? What else to buy? πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…
*
I dont think there is such a thing as "king of folding" bike tongue.gif If it suits you, that's your "king"

I one folding I haven't tried is the Birdy. If an opportunity arises, maybe? I may even buy a Speed P8 if a mint one comes along and the price is right. Don't ask me what for.... hmm.gif

Brompton can really retained its value. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

hence I don't understand why you would buy a Mit, Merc or Flamingo. It will never be a Brompton and you will always feel cheated! hahaha, sorry

well i think some mit owners r pretty happy with their bike, folds like a b, cheaper than a b, has more gear than a b...
it doesn't have to b a b, as long as it can fold like a b...  biggrin.gif
*
Absolutely, but I don't like the fact that it looks like the real thing when it's not. Perhaps some manufacturers should produce a bolt-on after-market rear triangle that is standard 130mm. That would be a better direction rather than copying someone's design.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Brompton here. I just hate the fact that its design is copied, so that's nothing clever about it, ie no improvement to the original concept. If it is something different, hey I'm interested!

Yes, pity the modified triangle is so expensive. Now, only if someone copies that rear triangle and offer that at a reasonable price....... biggrin.gif

What I would also say is, stick to the popular brand and you have a good chance of recovering the price you paid. The higher your initial cost the more you will lose of course. Buyers will want something for nothing, so you just need to decide what is a fair price for you and stick to it.
So what should you get? I would go for higher end models but secondhand. If you are patient and able to wait, you will pick up one. Hard part is there will always be competition laugh.gif Decide what riding you will do as you may not need so many gears. Will a foldable bike do what you want to do?
As for upgrading, sifu is right. You can always swap the good parts back out before you sell and keep for next bike.

I've seen dahon qix in kimbell jaya. It doesn't really fold small but vertical folding is quite interesting. It takes a bit of time to learn to fold but I can see once you master it, it will be a fast fold. With the third roller, the bike can be push easily.
I'm more interested in dahon eezz due to its size. However just having 3 speed, I wonder would it be enough group riding. I'm not thinking of chasing road bike, just leisurely ride for fun ride around 30km or less.
*
Yes, I like the look of the Eezz too. The wheelbase looks a little short though, so might be a bit twitchy? 30kms? Hmmm hmm.gif

Anyone heard of this lightweight electric/pedal (pedalec) foldable bike?

http://a-bike.co.uk/

It started off as a kickstarter campaign this year, and looks like it's ready for sale.

About 12 kg, but it comes with a battery, and folded dimension of 21cm x 40cm x 70cm.

Looks easy and small enough to carry onto the LRT even during peak hour.

Any thoughts?

Also any suggestions on where to get similar ones in KL?
*
The size of the wheels will put me off riding it. Not too many places you can ride that safely. Maybe good for KLIA2, hahaha

I've just picked this up. A 2011 Dahon Speed TR. I was deciding between a Speed P8 and this, very similar price. I figured you are getting so much more for your dollar with the TR.

Sram Dual Drive which I really like.
Very adjustable handlebar stem.
Biologic dynamo front hub
Seatpost pump
Full racks
Ergon grips
Kinetic rims
MKS detachable pedals

But.....it is heavy. I can easily lose 2 kgs, but I will leave it the way it is for now. It has done some kms judging by the wear of the back tyre, but incredibly, the bike is flawless, no paint damage etc.

I rode a couple of kms back home and it felt like a big bike due to the weight. The gears all changed smoothly. Might have to tighten the clamps, adjust the hubs and headset, but other than that, all good!

Any TR fans out there? biggrin.gif

Haha, I'm considering getting a bike.

But main concerns are: sweat, which I don't want a single drop before getting to work.

And size, it has to be as small as possible to be able to get into the LRT during peak hour without causing inconvenience to anyone.

Of course biking anywhere in KL is not safe at this point in time, so I'm thinking of parking somewhere near to the LRT.

Seems like the battery assist would help alot with the first concern of sweat. Also it's small enough for me to just dump in a bigger bag while in the LRT.

Besides the A-Bike, do you have other recommendations?
*
When I say not safe, I mean the wheels, being so small, will get caught easily. Broken pavement, potholes, etc. If you are cruising you can easily get thrown off!

bydaway,
mind to share how much u bought this?
*
Yes, this is probably rare, but I think it was sold in M'sia, if I'm not wrong it was around RM4500.

If I tell you what I paid for it, I will have to kill you, hahahaha!

Yes, bought here in Oz for A$600.

The Speed TR in exactly the same specs can be found in M'sia, at least on the internet. There was a review done by the chap named Sam Cheong. Probably didn't sell too many due to the high price. Same here in Oz.

Thanks Sifu. I believe these were the last Dahons made in Taiwan? The only thing missing is the Reecharge power pack that you can charge your phone with.

Looks very retro. The front wheel there's power supply for lights, right? I see alot of bike in japan having this kind of dynamo. Does it slow down the wheel?... Btw, May i know what is the different between speed tr and speed d8?
*
Yes, it has the Biologic dynamo hub. I guess it must create some drag but not that noticeably.

I had a Speed D7 previously and it has the same cromoly frame, but no frills. Still a good riding bike. The D8 is the latest version of the Speed. Looks like they've dropped the P8, and I think the Archer is closer in spec to the P8. Sifu can confirm.

The Speed TR is simply the touring version and has the SRAM dual drive hub and racks, and a lot of
other nice extras. Nothing really to upgrade.

Now that Dahons are Chinese made, I wonder if there are any noticeable differences in quality?

nowdays dahon from china are not that much different as long as the china manufacturer follow the quality control..

but dahon made from china around year 2013-2014 bundle with a lousy component.the new 2015 equipt with goodies just like the era of dahon made in taiwan.

as for groupset, i dont care about the groupset as long as the frame are good.besides i do have good groupset to use with the dahon..

bydaway, those speed tr are a good buy! keep it as the bike is a collector bike!
*
Good to hear the Chinese Dahon are good quality. Yes the TRs seems to be fairly rare. I'll keep it until I run out of room again! If only all folding bikes are this good!!

its easy bro.
the main reason is compactness. i put my bike on my car (viva) and i need compact bike as i also load my family with me. i dont have B's (that is i possibly won't buy for now,u can get a good roadbike with that price). 30km route or below i usually rode my 16" bike laugh.gif
if u want to sell it, please advertise here 1st. i might recomend this bike more compare to the tern verge s27i (folding touring bike). the chromoly frame is the best material for touring!
*
Sure, will let you know first, although this will be tricky bringing with me on the plane. Hey maybe I can visit you in Ipoh and go for a ride! Never been there.

Can you get the Mu P24 there? Should be the same gearing but alloy frame, which some people prefer because it is a little lighter.

Quick question, where can I buy a good headset for the Dahon in KL? Are the Litepro ones genuine? Haha
