QUOTE(tcb2010 @ Jan 14 2016, 10:05 AM) Hi sifus, Headset may be over tightened or need servicing or replacing. Try loosening a little and if that solves the problem without any looseness or rocking, happy days!New some insight on the handle tightness of my new Dahon. It seems turning the handles seems stiffer and tight feeling, especially beyond 45degree angle. Didnt notice this with my other mtb or foldies. Is it a characteristic of Dahon..being set up that way..Or some oiling or screw loosening is needed. |

QUOTE(266K @ Jan 14 2016, 10:15 AM) Sifu, between Sora RD3500 9 spd, Claris 8-9 spd & Alivio RD-M410, 7-8spd, which one is a better replacement for MU Neos? if I just want to chg the RD Oso when buying RD hangar, do we need to specifically states it is for foldie? You'll have to find one with the correct pull rate as your shifter. I'm guessing the Sora would work. RD hanger would be specific to your bike. They come with all shapes and sizes. Why do you need to replace it? Damaged? |

Talking about 20H front hubs, I have just ordered one yesterday on Ebay. Not sure what the quality is like but should be ok.
I needed one so I can swap out the Biologic dynamo that is on the wheel that I recently bought from Rodalink. My Speed TR has the identical wheeel and I didn't want to be riding constantly with the dynamo dragging. Once I replace the dynamo hub with the one I ordered, I can then choose when to use which I still can't believe how cheap the wheel was, so no problem spending more to replace the hub. Best of all, I'll have a matching original wheel. Question to Sifu Etigge, not having laced a wheel before, how do you measure correct spoke length for the new hub? Thanks! |

QUOTE(etigge @ Jan 15 2016, 02:19 AM) There's a formula to calculate and you need to know the dimension of the hubs flange, hubs width and the type of lacing you are going to use. Darn complicated if you ask me, hahahaaa. I was hoping not to have to cut by buying the correct length spokes. I'm not going to rush it, wait till the hub is here, there work it out. Thanks! So, what I do is I will estimate and lace the 4 quadrants of the rim. And then lace another 4 to the other side. Check the length and then estimate how much to cut. Oh yeah, one more thing, the first 4 spoke has treads that go on and on and on so I can screw the nipples as far as needed. It's more like experimenting. Once you get the correct length, I will start adjusting all the spokes length together. Hard work actually but smaller rims are easier to lace. |

QUOTE(tcb2010 @ Jan 15 2016, 10:39 AM) Sifus, Depends on the type of fender you have. I've got Big Apples and fits the stock fenders. No experience with Rotolo, but the Big Apples are very comfortable. Handling? how much would you need? If i change the stock Dahon Rotolo tires ( 2.0 x 1.75) to Schwalbe Big Apple ..Can we still fit in the original fender as its much fatter. Is the Big Apples much better than the rotolo in terms of handling and comfort? What are the negatives compared to Rotolo? Appreciate the input. Thx. WILL add weight to your bike for sure! Just lose some of your weight to compensate, hahaha |

QUOTE(etigge @ Jan 15 2016, 02:52 PM) From the link on my former comment you can determine the spoke length. They do sell different spoke lengths. As for lacing, single lace is ......... (one pair, one upwards and one downwards is one pair) , the single lacing is 2 empty slots between per pair. Double lace is 4 empty holes between the pair. Lacing is actually how many times the spokes intersect each other. The more they intersect the stronger the build. Happy building! It takes a lot of effort but worth it. Remember that truing is easy but getting the spokes tension even and most of all, getting the rims totally round is the hardest. I'll keep you posted.....hahaha |

QUOTE(266K @ Jan 16 2016, 05:16 PM) sorry it was given to me by Jap fren years ago, I use it for critical work like electrical wiring insulator as well.. no idea where to buy. think just get any teflon tape will do..but must be genuine teflon.. Water and gas plumbing Teflon tape should be easy enough to find if it is the same thing. I'd prefer a permanent fix though. |

QUOTE(kaijiun @ Jan 17 2016, 05:36 PM) Hi all, Where abouts are you in Aust currently. You can sometimes pick up a good deal here and just check it in and bring it home. Look out for the higher end models as these would be the ones worth buying. Depends on what you budget is of course.Thinking of getting a folding bike and came to here, which helps a lot for me to understand what is available on the market. I work in Australia atm but have planned a trip back in Penang(Bukit Mertajam. Eyeing for Dahon Vitesse D8 atm, as I planned to use it about twice a week for commute and have to go up/down staircase quite often during the trip. About 2.5km from my place to train station. I saw a lot of bike shop in KL but not much in Penang. Do anyone know/recommend bike shop there? I might consider call and ask shops from KL to deliver to Penang if the price difference is a lot. BTW, there is a owner selling Tern7 for AUD250(about RM750)+approx rm210 to go there and get it. I have asked the owner and he said it is a 2013 model and he had cycled about 10-15km every workday for a year(approx 3000-4000km). Do you think is a good deal? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Folding-Bike-Te...bsAAOSw5IJWg3ZU Thanks for reading!! |

QUOTE(kaijiun @ Jan 18 2016, 05:31 AM) Ok. I will have a look and see. I am more into 8 speed bike for now just to open for more options to upgrade in future. Gumtree.....Where did you get these prices from? I tried google them and couldn't find it. 60% of the time i am cycling off road to pedestrian road when on high car/truck traffic area), with bumpy surface(especially going into different type road, as it sometimes steps up say 4cm), will the folding bike able to withstand this? I currently cycling a 26" aluminium framed mountain bike with front and back suspension and i just went through them without thinking of consequences(but still felt the step/bump). Just thinking folding bike might need extra cautious on road condition? Thanks. |

QUOTE(kaijiun @ Jan 19 2016, 08:39 AM) Update to my situation. What I love about Gumtree is that prices can vary from bargain to much too expensive. There was one advertised the other day for $50. I was too late in getting a quote for freight. For some unknown reason, my mountain bike got punctured today. So happens Gumtree just showed up a Dahon Broadwalk D7 for $170 negotiable. So I had made an appointment with the owner this evening to have a look. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/greenwich/b...-20-/1101346182 Anything to watch out for inspection? Folding mechanism? He told me that he bought the bike 2 years ago(maybe is 3 years) Thanks. Most foldable bikes tend to be under-utilised, which means they are in good condition. If not, factor in tyres, chain, brakes and then see if it is still reasonable. |

QUOTE(KLlee @ Jan 26 2016, 10:05 AM) Dear all sifus, do we need thicker tire for road trip or just the original slim tire will do? Owning the Java pro 461 model. Appreciate if anyone can enlighten more. If you hate punctures, use Schwalbe Marathons. However if your wheels are 451s then you are out of luck. Just bring more spare tubes. Width of tyres does not matter, just how much puncture protection.Cheers... |

Well, I have just installed the collapsible rear rack on my Tikit. Bike Friday does not make them anymore so it took me a while to locate this one, which was in Singapore. The seller was nice enough to hold it for me until I can collect it.
The standard rack is too low for a pannier but this one can be raised up so no problems! And the way it has been designed, the wheel in one corner means the Tikit is now super easy to roll around! :-) Attached thumbnail(s) |

Bike stands. They are not all pretty and add weight, right. However a bike without a stand can be a pain in the butt, having to lean it against something or lay on the ground. Stands that are well design and lightweight...quick give me one!
I spotted a Minoura kick stand at Johnny's shop in Bandar U. This one is for the Brompton. Very neat looking and simple. Now I won't need to keep folding the bike! Nice! Attached thumbnail(s) |
