Another alternative for compact 5G phone is perhaps the Mi 10 Lite 5G.

Btw the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G is not my choice as it doesn't have Google Play which is very important.

Anyone else have any suggestions do let me know.

Since most smartphones have quite similar specs in their respective segments, be it flagship or mid range, which manufacturer is better in terms of user experience, software updates, reliability and most importantly, future proofing (if there's such a thing). I am considering the Note 9 Pro or the Realme 6 Pro, or anything similar, below RM1.5k. Normal usage only, no gaming, but more into camera.

Was looking at Oppo A9 2020 (7.7 sales selling at RM799) , I am apple user so dont know which android better. Can recommend any phone better than Oppo A9 and around the same price? Any thing from Huawei?

Since your on Apple camp, so Android best stick with any Android with Google official support. Huawei doesn't have.

You have to define how better is better for your dad.

I bought my dad/mom at least than 500 too. They are happy using it, well you know parents usage are simple only. Unless your dad are very tech-savvy.
Majority of the parents usually are playing Social media like FB/IG or chat WhatsApp/WeChat/Line/Telegram/Messenger or media like YouTube or maybe play some casual candy crush games or lend to their grandkids to play games too.

If I were you, I would stick with Realme 6 and save the balance buy other stuff for dad or hang out makan je. Of coz the M31 are bigger battery, and the Note 9 Pro are even better spec but back to the basic question, is the better is really better usage for your dad or not.
