i suggest that once he got the visa, few things he could do:-

1) drive uber lor (get a car not too old) - $25/hr
2) work in pick and pack - $23/hr
3) work for freelance (depending his profession)
4) gardening

restaurant is tiring, and pay is $hit, somewhere $15-17 nia, meant for ppl who can't speak proper inggeris.....i mean english

OR

1) look for his job profession company work as junior staff. got leave and pay somemore.
2) part time or casual also can la, at least accumulate experience
*
Have to disagree with you on the restaurant part. You re probably aiming at the Asian restaurants. However, the other majorities will be paying more than $20+ an hour with weekends going up to a probable $30 an hour.

well as an asian i doubt you would have a higher chance in a cafe or restaurant if you noticed that all the staff in there are all ozzies
*
Not really. If you pay careful attention restaurants are moving to a more diversified workforce. I have friends who are Asians but they work in western restaurants with the Ozzies. Partly because everyone knows Asian are more hardworking.

that's depending how u nego with the company.
either the company pay or u gonna pay for it.
legally, u shd pay the tax and company shd pay that amount OR company report ur salary based on 95k to ATO but pay u peanuts later..... hmm.gif
*
I didn't know that you will need to pay additional tax when your salary is more than $95k. I'm definitely not paying anything more than a typical Ozzie.

It is not normal. Even in large corporates, some cover only 80% of the premiums.
For small companies u can pretty much forget about it.

My company provides us a fix amount to use for health insurance every year, it's then your decision if you want to use 100%,50% or 0% of it towards private insurance.

do u both married in the 1st place when applying?
if say she/he met a person who's a PR while the other is not, would falls under spouse visa. we got groups of ppl here who's same situation. happens that need to attach love letters, emails, photo or watsoever to prove the genuine marriage or relationship
*
We are not married, under de-facto relationship. I think that's the case for new applicants on spouse visa, my case is I applied the visa and included her in as depedents so we both got the PR together. (Note: Not TR)

Once granted, it's forever. BUT....if you're not staying at least 3 years within 5 years, you better give a good reason why you can''t stay in Oz or else you can't renew during RRV
*
I might be wrong but correct me if I'm. Once you attain PR (I assumed you stayed in Australia for your studies), stay in Australia for a year then apply for citizenship. Then you are free to go wherever you want to work or live.

Note: To fulfill the requirement you have to be in Australia for at least 4 years (inclusive student visa, working visa) and stayed in Australia a year as a PR.

hi all, i've been in contact with this recruiter in aus and i feel my profile matched the requirements. the requirements is quite niche but the HR said they are not sponsoring visa.

i did some online assessment test and result is 189 independent score is 85, 190 state score is 90.

so how do i proceed? can i tell the HR to proceed with my application and i will settle the visa sponsorship myself once they gimme job offer?
*
Not sure how you got a score of 85 or 90 but that is pretty amazing. Never seen anyone higher than 70 to be honest.

You must have possessed superior English, 10,15 years working experience, in the 25-30 years old group with Australian education right?

i'm at 65 without claiming points for English for subclass 189... maybe he's got band 8 in all IELTS modules? smile.gif

but yeah... 70 points and above is very rare...
*
I thought I was already pretty amazing to have 70 points when I applied last year while most of my friends struggle with 60 points post graduating tongue.gif That's why there's a saying that there's always somebody better than you out there.

no choice as an under grad, points are pretty much low due to age and 0 work experience... how you managed to get 70? notworthy.gif
*
Age group, one year Aussie experience and English. Was fortunate to be sponsored working visa directly after graduation, so took the opportunity to work a year prior to applying PR.

hi guys, so how do i begin applying for aussie visa?
*
Start by visiting the immi website to see whether you qualify for their point system (min requirement 60 points). If you do, then you can DIY your own application or get an approved agent to do it for you.

Feel free to ask any questions here.

Speaking of which, I am a law grad from UK (but Malaysian) and here is my score point

Age: 30 pts
English language competency level: 10 pts
Overseas skilled employment in nominated skilled occupation or a closely related skilled occupation: not quite sure
Australian skilled employment in nominated skilled occupation or a closely related skilled occupation (The maximum points awarded for any combination of overseas and Australian skilled employment is 20 points): not quite sure
Educational qualifications: Bachelor 15 pts
Australian study qualification: N/A
Other factors: N/A
Nomination/Sponsorship: N/A

So far 55 pts. Should be able to obtain 60.

What did I miss out? I have not studied/worked in Aussie before.
*
Few options,
Note: These are not professional advice but just advising based on experience.

I) Get band 8 in IELTS to obtain that extra 10 points
II) Check for state sponsorship, this will give you extra 5 points if your occupation is in the state sponsorship list.
III) Do a professional year (Not sure if it applies to law) to get the extra 5 points
IV) If all else fails, look into the option of graduate visa for overseas students to see if they recognise your university. Bank your luck in Aussie for 18 months to see if you can land yourself a job and apply for PR afterwards.

Guys correct me if anything above is incorrect or the information has since changed.

Congrats!

Yes, you are right. You can start your own application via http://www.border.gov.au/Busi/Empl/skillselect

Though, before starting that, please prepare all the required evidence for the points that you are claiming, it will definitely help in expediting the process.

how long have you been there and which part of aussie are you residing?

Did my studies for four years and started working 3 years ago. So a total of 7 years in Perth. Sounds pretty long already. How about yourself?

20 points for English is actually band 8.0 in all modules sweat.gif

partner no need if you can get a completion letter from her uni stating that she had completed her degree in English
*
My partner didn't take the IELTS exam but just had to prove that she has functional English. (E.g A letter from her university stating that her course was conducted in English). Though the more evidence the easier the process.

60 points in EOI may result you obtaining your invitation much slower. So if time is on your side then 60 would be sufficient. However, if you are in the rush of migrating to Australia (maybe due to age bracket), then by all means try the best in getting band 8 across all modules.

What's next after EOI? Wait for the invitation and make sure you have all the documents in place. =) Don't ever try to do both in parallel as the window during the invitation is pretty short.

Hope the above helps.

Well said. Well said  rclxms.gif

Anything happen prompting this sudden but thoughtful share? XD

What about white collar workers in Malaysia going over in their 20s-30s? Any advise?
*
The correct mindset!
1) Be prepared to work from the very bottom onwards.
2) Though 1) may not work out most of the time. Be prepared that you will have to work odd jobs.
3) Be open and adapt to the local culture. Get to know the Aussie and blend in with them.

Though there are still a lot of illegal restaurants out there.
