that's standard Australian units/houses, no?

What he is referring to is the built area rather than the land area. E.g. My house has a land area of 400 sqm but only with a built area of 160sqm.

I don't quite get it - under the proposed new ruling, now that PRs are eligible for HECS which is equivalent to a deferred loan (repayment shall kicks in post grad + hits income threshold), the bad & rotten ones can still pack up & head back to home country once grad without repaying no?
*
I won't be surprise if there is a separate ruling saying that you need to fulfill 104 weeks of being PR before being qualified for the loan. Centrelink requires that before giving out the dole.

I've just lodged my 189 visa last month as an exit plan.

The job market outlook for mechanical engineers aren't looking too healthy at the moment, not only in Australia but all over. Planning to make my move once things start to pick up.

Any mechanical engineers here who's made the move carrying along 5 - 8 years worth of experience? Care to share your job hunt experience?
*
I'm a mechanical engineer but studied uni here and started work straight after. It was hard for me especially as an international student with no work experience but luckily manage to secure an offer before I graduated.

Market is a bit bleak but be flexible, don't just focus on one discipline, take up opportunities like project engineering, planning or cost engineering those kind of roles.

I'm open to anything engineering related bar sales, no issues with switching industries as well. I'm lucky enough to have dabbled enough in pretty much everything enduring through project life cycles through to maintenance.

Problem is breaking into the market as an experience hire and picking up a starting base - thinking of Perth or Brisbane. Whereabouts are you based?

I was in Sydney before. Plenty of opportunities in the manufacturing front, but the cost of living is ridiculous.
*
Currently based in Perth as I studied over here, cost of living in Perth is also on the high side. I'm currently running projects as a project engineer, more of a personal choice as I started off being a mechanical engineer.

There is no right or wrong here. You give job to a jobless guy, the jobless guy is happy to take up a job, win-win situation.

But bear in mind there are a lot of cases now whereby employers are being investigated due to underpaying their staffs. And don't forget, this is not Malaysia. When an unhappy employee speaks up, the authority will step in.

Lastly, I do not think it is a good idea to publicly publish your rate here, that should be kept between you and your workers.
*
Yes you are correct but to be honest the authorities doesn't really care a lot. I ve tried filling a claim via them and they say go and talk to your management and reach a settlement outside, they don't even want to budge even when you have all the evidence.

The process is too complicated and too much hassle that it doesn't really benefit the employee. Hence why you are still seeing so much under table payment, especially Chinatown.

Just a question: any of you regrets making the move?
*
Partially, life here is good in general. Managed to own houses and do extra co-curicular stuff outside of work.

Though salary wise is quite stagnant since tax rates are high, comparing to my peers in Singapore.
