Hi Gary

Yes its better to be an Australian Citizen and apply for MM2H. There are already many who have done this.
*
QUOTE(Garysydney @ Nov 8 2017, 12:35 PM)
Just called one of the migration agents. I was told only require RM300k (or equivalent in a bank acct - local or overseas) and show a monthly income of rm10k. Fees is rm5k for agent and another couple of grand for immigration fees. Total time needed will be around 3 months for approval.
*
it is easy, and you have got some agent advice, although you don't need an agent to apply....

the downside is, you cannot legally work....but you can apply for a special work permit to work partime up to 20hrs a week if you have a special skill.....not an issue for retirees....

yes....they treat mm2h foreigners better than citizens....lol

1. When leaving Australia, used Aussie passport
2. When reach malaysia immigration, use Malaysia passport
3. When want to leave Malaysia back to Australia, use your malaysia passport to apply ETA visitor visa. So airline can let you board the plane to Australia
4. When entering Australia, use your Aussie passport

ETA cost only A$20 per year

Nothing beats holding both citizenship and passport
*
with the apis, i wonder what happens when you leave msia on a msian passport, and then attempt to enter australia with an aussie one...as you would be non-existent in the flight manifest at oz immigration....

the way to avoid such problems is to go through a 3rd country with no apis system with msia....eg singapore....leave msia on msia passport, enter and leave singapore with oz passport...

Envy you man.

Once you activated your PR and returned to Malaysia, did they mention that you have how long to return to Australia? Or it doesn't matter as long as you stay in Australia for 2 years over the 5 years visa period?
*
oz doesn't really bother about you leaving and entering....just that after 5 years, you need to reapply for a rrv, to be allowed in....and that needs to meet residency requirements....

if you have no need or wish to leave australia, you don't need to apply for a rrv at all....it is ONLY needed for re-entry after you have left the country...

I would discourage this completely. As they.improve information sharing you are technically breaking laws on. ith sides.

by the way how would you justify entry and exit stamps?
*
there are no more entry and exit stamps, with the electronic gate system...

Nowadays reentry permit has no stamps (they did away with this about 10 years ago) - you just do it online with $370 fees (5-year visa) and you can print out your reentry permit (no more stickers like before). You just use that printed re-entry permit to confirm you have your PR. I renewed mine in April 2017.
*
just as for the eta we get as visitors, there is no need for even a printout....your passport record is captured in the oz dibp database, and they will know what visa you hold and held, when before you have entered, how long you stayed etc....

you can't even check in for your flight if your details do not match....

which happens frequently to me with sq....and my kf record does not match my passport...the usual asian name in angmoh country grief....compounded by the fact that msian passport does not have a first name designation as specified under iaco convention...everybody's whole name is the surname with no given name.....yes...lol

no such worries for aussies where dual citizenship is allowed.

*
The worry is not that Oz will not accept dual citizenship....but that your identity on boarding the flight is on a different passport and they are expecting that....and when you appear at immigration with an Oz passport, they have no record of you boarding any flight....a security issue, more than immigration....

if you have PR, can you still apply ETA visitor visa ?
*
That will be a problem, as you will have 2 substantive visas on the same passport....

For citizens, I don't see any problem getting an ETA with the Msian passport...

Assets in Australia is not affected by your demise, as long as the death is recorded and identity established....that itself is a problem, due to often an absence of a body, but that problem applies to everyone on board....

I just contacted an old Uni friend who migrated to Oz about same time as myself. He is now regional director of an Oz company but spends most of his time in Asia. I contacted him this morning and he said a lot of Msian people are having 2 passports and they fly back to Oz via a different country. He tells me he will be taking up Oz citizenship soon.
*
as long as the 3rd country does not have apis system with msia, it will work...

afaik, within the asean region, no apis is required as all asean citizens have automatic 2 weeks visa on arrival...so sin, Jakarta and bkk would be the logical transit points...

thats promising... is it very recent news? cuz my understanding is tht the policy keep changing
*
this has nothing to do with "policy"...but whether an employer is willing to employ someone from outside oz, with zero oz experience...

the answer is generally "no"....

the exceptions will be situations where the right technical skill set is on offer, and where there is a shortage of that profession...

the biggest group of people offered jobs in oz BEFORE they have any visa, are doctors, mostly from uk/ireland...because there is a shortage of junior doctors in regional areas and some metro hospitals, and those from uk fits easily into the system and can hit the ground running...

No need agents, if your circumstances are straight forward....

Using agents will not "grease" you process....this is NOT Malaysia ok....

Hi. It has been a few months since the last post above. I just got offered a permanent role from a public practice at Gold Coast. Accepted the offer and will be tendering my resignation tomorrow.  sweat.gif

Despite the excitement and uncertainty (new work environment / new working methods), I will definitely miss my coworkers and the current firm.

Do you guys have any tips in settling down at Gold Coast in particular? Will be relocating in 2018.
*
Gld coast has grown so fast, it's the 2nd biggest city in Queensland now, and only 1 hr from Brisbane....it's a great place....

Gold Coast is a nice place for a holiday but if you are Asian, you may experience a bit more racist attitudes. Queensland is predominated by the National Party (LNP) and when going around just watch out for red-necks. Pauline Hanson comes from this area so as I have always said, this is a region where you see a lot of Pauline's uncles and aunties. Retirees like the warmer weather here so you will see a lot of old folks. Residential properties are quite affordable and probably around Perth prices.
*
There are bogans and red necks everywhere....while QLD is famous for Pauline Hanson, I don't find any more "racism" then elsewhere....

In fact gold coast itself is well accustomed to hoards of Asian tourists....

The retirees prefer quieter sunshine coast...

Questions: I have plans to stay for a month here and a month there, hence i do not want to pay a 12 months fixed contract and with no furniture.

Is AirBnB the only choice i can seek for?
*
minimum contract is 6 months, and usually don't exceed 12 months...

at least you now have the option or airbnb...

best bet is a friend's house, then AirBnB... some times you might be able to find short term leases, quite rare but not impossible
*
short term leases usually done privately....really not worth landlords using real estate agents for short leases...so get friends there to ask around....

i personally provided 10 years worth of monthly payslips and bank statements... i read somewhere that 75% is good enough

Mine was ACS as well, and for visa application i just provided bank statements, payslips, and employment reference both from my bosses and HRs... nothing more

Ah...finally making a move....
