how do you define "good company"?  hmm.gif
*
1. Company which come rain or shine will be there. Something people need even though economy is bad.
2. Company with strong balance sheet (better if zero debts, if got debts, must be low, if high debts, must be shown able to decrease the amount over the years)
3. Company which are shareholder friendly
4. Company which are able to grow revenue/net profit margin, dividend

No much difference Ramjade. Both are sin stock. Carlsberg has declared a RM0.65 dividend. I will take the dividend first and decide whether to keep it later. HEIM is on a downtrend because its recent QR dipped slightly at -4% and I suspect because its ex-dividend date has passed.

IMHO it is not worth buying Carlsberg and HEIM now although the valuation still looks OK. The  illegal alcohol trade is killing Carlsberg and HEIM. BAT is suffering the same problem with the illegal tobacco trade. With that, associated business like TienWah which depends on BAT will also be affected.
*
Actually looking for defensive MY stocks. I know come rain or shine, certain people in Malaysia must drink alcohol. whistling.gif So demand is always there. But some people drink like Johnny walker which is not produced by Carlsberg or Heim sad.gif

Anyone can recommend a website or app or anything that can let us obtain 5-10 years of historical financial data? Better if got 5-10 years historical financial ratio (P/E, P/B, current ratio, DE etc).  notworthy.gif  I know BursaMarkerplace, it provide 5 years historical financial statement but not financial ratio, is there better alternatives? Lazy to dig into annual report. whistling.gif

Hi all sifus, I got two things want to clarify since I have been reading books from US.

1. Is there a FED equivalent in Malaysia where they try hard to stabilize the volatile market and try to control bubbles by raising and lowering interest rates and printing money in Malaysia? If yes, what's the name of such organization and where can I monitor the interest rates of Malaysia?

2. In US, investors are require to pay capital gains tax and it depends on how long you hold a counter and also dividend tax. We need to pay such tax in Malaysia?

Thanks. notworthy.gif
*
1. Yes. That organisation is call Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

2. Actually US have no capital gain tax for foreigners. Don't know about local. That's why if you go into the US thread, you see people all there trading oil sweat.gif
There's 30% tax for foreigner on dividend in US.
For malaysia normal stocks don't know. But I know for malaysia, reits kena 10% tax.

Rights issues are always a disaster man. No matter what, adjusted price always falls. Rights issues sucks for original investors. Best is to just sell it, and buy the equal number of OR and exercise them. You will always gain this way.
*
Wrong. Croesus (a SG counter) issue rights every few years and those who subscribe for excess rights are reaping the profit today.
Right now got people want to privatize it because it's too profitable. If issuing rights and not profitable, why would anyone want to take over it?

Want me to give another example? Can. Mapletree commercial trust (a s-reit). Issued rights to acquire mapletree business city I. Dividend increase after the rights issue.

Hey that's not fair. Give example of a Malaysian company. Alright. Here you go. Public bank rights issue
QUOTE
It goes like this ‘If you purchased 1,000 units of Public Bank shares 50 years ago, subscribed to all its rights issues, and reinvested all dividends. You’d be a millionaire today. So during this Public Bank AGM, they did the math and came up with this diagram. Not only would you be a millionaire, you’d have RM4.1 million today.

Company ask money from investor, some investors minght not subcribe and lock profit first which definitely will lead to lower the price, it is indeed not good for  investor in short term.

Your examples are those company success in expasion by utilise those new capital from right issue, but MRCB intend to use the right issue to reduce their debt ratio, what is their expansion plan?
*
That's why you need to see what's the rights issue for. Also if the company is a good company.

could you share with us why MRCB deserve a 50% salary increment?
*
I am not invested in malaysian market so cannot give comment. But I was reply to contestchris which says rights issue is a bad thing. Just to correct him that right is not necessarily bad.

If in your opinion the rights can be used to generate more income/of value, just subscribe to it. If not just sell your rights away.

I am totally NOT arguing against long term benefits. But in the short term rights issues harm investors. Long term rights issues are always for the better.

Also I am talking about a Malaysian context, I don't know about Singapore and their market reaction could be different.

Look at Prolexus. Such an amazing company but share price declined so much. L&G also. And now MRCB. From the Malaysian recent rights issues I have followed, there is almost always at least a 10-20% short/mid term drop.
*
Same reaction over that side. A right issue will cause the price to drop. Depend on how you look at it. A good company with good business asking for rights should be seen as discount to get shares of the company at cheap prices. Ask yourself, why did you buy the company? Is it for trading or to accumulate more and hold for long term?

If sole purpose is for trading, then I think you need to take the loss and move to another counter.

Eg. Nestle asking for rights issue and price drop 10%, will you oversubscribe for it? I will without any hesitation.

I'm not in it for trading but I will likely jump out immediately should any of my holdings get a rights issue (I will of course study the scenario/purpose first) and then buy back in at a later date. Rights issues provide a great buying opportunity, something I am looking to do with Prolexus soon.
*
By the time you get news of right issue, I think it's too late as the price would have tank already.
