Update on the exora's head unit.

I was right on the ISO connector being the same. Everything works like a charm in the terms of sound, power etc.

The mounting however, doesn't fit. The stupid design of the exora's clarion has a slight angle upwards to it. It's not a normal double din. It fits in our center console with our original mounting bracket. But the centre console piece that goes into doesnt fit back.

Thank god I brought all my tools before meeting yhe seller. I took off with the head unit. And I tried putting everything together in my Saga in the 1km vicitnity of the seller. After I knew, it won't fit. I packed everything up and text him for a refund as it doesn't fit. Thankfully the nice guy accepted it.

I offered him to refund me only rm100 as to rm110. He initially wanted to give the full amount but I insisted.

There goes my dream of having an OEM looking player in my Saga. sad.gif

Thank you for the update. If I m in KL for meeting and happen to be a TT... during that time.. I belanja you....

No understand how it not fit. U mean the facia plate slanted on the EXORA unit? How bad the slant is? If I were to cut the centre console holder, will it still fit? hmm.gif Ayam also not very hepi with my current setup since got a big lobang, but I don't mind if there's a proper unit that fits well where I can cut the centre console holder to fit.

HWL I used last time is HiLo only not even bodyshift. 8K front 6K rear. If for street and once in a blue moon touge runs and got fetch people rear use 4K coz 6K will be bumpy. HWL is twin tube design so it has more comfort than monotube/inverted monotube type. Being that said I have used my HWL in track before in Sepang, Elite and MIMC respectively they perform quite ok given that it is only a HiLo. The rear shocks started to leak after 1 year both leak together. Due to it is not a bodyshift type adjustable the spring will unseat from it's spring cup or perch if the car is jacked up on jacks so at times after the car come back down from the jack and the 1st time you turn the steering there will be a loud TUK sound. That's the spring sound it seated back to it's proper place. Also the HWL is a long stroke absorber. Due to the spring unseating issues I DIY a solution to this. I install a pair of helper springs to keep the spring at the preloaded state so that it won't get unseated when the car is up in the air. With this setup I lost some height adjustment I can't go lower than 2 finger gap at the front.

Fast forward, I'm now using Ftuned which is a totally different system from HWL so to compare it to Ftuned is kinda like comparing a normal apple to a fuji apple.

The front are inverted monotube rear monotube. HiLo Soft/Hard with bodyshift. Inverted monotube has greater ability to take side load compare to monotube and twin tube. and it reduces the unsprung weight of the car. It has bigger pistons and will withstand higher temperature. Of coz with such a setup comfort was not really in the picture couple that to a pillowball mount I would safely say comfort is thrown out to the sea. Performance wise it is much much better as it is tuned for race competition use. As with inverted monotube the soft hard adjustment is at the bottom so it took me a while to get used to the direction of the damping. The rear are monotube design, damping adjustment on the top. I'm now running 8K front 5.5K rear.

FTuned has different range for different use so for the normal and occasional spirited drive just get the Road-touge, or road-track is fine. Race-Comp is top of the line. The difference between the 3 although the construction are the same is the valves and shims inside are setup differently. I was very happy and proud that Farouk himself was willing enough to show me how these valves and shims changes the characteristic of the damping. They also have non inverted monotube range

If you are really interested with FTuned give Farouk a call or make an appointment to visit his shop, He's a really nice guy guaranteed. The after sales service was very good and personal. Quality of the suspension system is also very top notch.  thumbup.gif

Good things are meant to be shared.
*
Wow. Thank you for great long valuable write up.

Yeah. I heard Farouk do wonders in setting up the end result for the suspension.

Having said that I had experience myself of using hwl in Toyota Avanza. About similar setup as Saga of which the usage of spring perch. I did asked Wong at hwl kg Baru sg buluh to do some setup for Avanza for fine tuning the valves for the front absorber as I have slam the car to the lowest possible position with 17" 205x40 tires. Nonetheless, the ride is still comfy. (Comfy is subjective matters.... According to my old butt... )

I do trust that Ftune can do the same fine tuning job. When I m back in KL working .... I ll visit Ftune.

If you are using your usual brand lubricant suddenly you notice above higher engine oil temp under normal driving condition. .. u might need to check your lubricant. .. if kena filtered used lubricant ... the operating temp usually much higher...

I'm sorry but as far as I know, we can't read oil temperature from an OBD2 reader as our gaga does not have an oil temp sensor and to be able to read oil temp from oil temp meter, we will need to get an oil temp sensor (or sometimes it comes together with the oil temp meter).

Could you have mistakenly referred to water temp instead?

Or could you share the exact ODB2 unit and the software/app you're using ?

I bought JVC digital HU and 2 pairs of speakers at brothers KJ as they are doing sales huge discounts last week. I surveyed in Kedah and penang but brothers KJ outlet gives huge discounts of which I could not resist a knock of price of 50% on a similar product.

Hu Kdx 220 rm148
6.5" csv628 rm78 per pair.

PM TitanRev on how to take out the rear speakers and managed to diy on the installation of HU and rear speakers. Took me 3 hours as I run new sets of bigger speaket cables for the rear speakers and properly do the cables termination with socket connectors.

And my challenge us now on running new speaker wires to front speakers as no factory oem wires ... saga sv/ plus no front speakers. The challenge is the weather wire protector insulator is damn small and very hard to insert the wires through with very tight space to work.

Sighhhh.....

I thought so that the saga plus I bought on 21 dec registration is a left over old stocks of saga sv but I found contradict evidence. Since I did HU and speakers installation. .. I found date stamp stickers that the car is assembled may be in early or mid Nov... the rear seat got vendor stickers stated 6 Nov 2015.. and stock clarion HU dated 28 Oct 2015 when it left vendor qc depth.

So it's a mid November 2015 car and I think they tried to finish their part bins rather and old car stock

How did you diy the back connector of the HU? Cut and splice or you bought a harness adaptor?

I'm thinking of picking this up.

Do a proper wiring termination so that no issues afterward.

Just finished installing and tidying up the rear speaker. Seat Suda pasang at the back.. and tested the sound from the rear. I m impressed with JVC CSV 628 drvn series 6.5" speakers. The sound is very good comparing with rm78. ...

Can't wait to find a way to install the same set at front door.

Just finished installing front speaker. I use brake basikal cable to guide the wires pass through the weather conduit.

And for rm78 a pair and total rm156.. quad jvc csv628 prove to be a worthy purchase! Bass sounds very good so as the mid. I played bassotronic - Bass I love you and some zeds dead songs.. sounds is pretty good for the price paid! Can hear Low note bass ... the speaker are able to take it.

The only issue now is that the outer facia can't fit as the dash panel are curvy, but I think this can mods a bit to fit the HU...to min the gap...

nice! the wire guide helped much better right?
did u take photos of the speaker install? i would like to see it biggrin.gif
*
Sorry bro. Didn't take any pics during speaker installation. But nothing much technical ...

The easier way to run the wires is to pull the rubber weather hose/ conduit/ casing from the body side. Then just pull out from the door side. I Try to look for any flexible wires that is strong enough to act as a probe to poke through it.. and lastly use my old mt bicycle brake cable... with this i need creative Mind to insert the wires in it. Hahahaha

The rest is very easy.

since i google on the subject cud not find anything relating to the installation.. i just share on how..

Factory stock cd player removal

how to take out rear speaker?

pull the lower strap of the seat bench. 2 of ot and slowly pull out the seat. you ll be able to see the exposed chasis. remove the 3 bolts size 14 ( red markings in the pics)

then undo the isofix seat bealt mount (for kiddy seat) both side at the rear panel.

then from inside the boot, undo the nuts that holds the 3rd brake light

unscrew the bolt that hold the plastic cover for the centre seat belt and also for easy access and removal of the upper rear seats, undo the bolts of the seat belt.

lift up the upper seat to take out from the hook.

the rear back shelf is secured via plastik clip. pry up the whole cover (The black round speaker fitted to the grey panel) to take out.

user posted image

take out rear the rear speaker via 3 bolts and undo the stock factory wire connector from inside the boot.

since the stock speaker on comes with 3 bolts point and the after market usually comes with 4 bolts. you may have to make a hole via drill from the boot. be very careful in placement of the hole as you might have issues in screwing it tight as rear glass is another obstacle unless you have angle screw driver.

if rajin.... can fit and fix a rubber mat to the speaker area.

if you want to use new speaker cables, you have to take out the side panels in the cabin to hide the cables. otherwise for stock wiring for the rear will do the job. its just you need to work on the connectors.

user posted image

i use back the ori mounting

user posted image

Since i use aftermarket wires, i re run the cabling for both side front and back...

And i want it to be a clean and need tidy job if incase i need to do something... i utilise 4 wire connectors bought from electronic shop. it will be plug and play type.

user posted image

The harness connector i cut from oem factory HU and reuse back for for wires only which is

A8. ground - black
A6. illumination - orange-white
A7. Power- ac ignition red
A4. bateri - yellow

Male Connectors - Gray

you can try 2 ways, 1 is slightly potrude the player out a little so can fit the cover. or another way, take paper put at top part of player, trace the curve part out. then with that paper can mark on the cover. den use dremel/grinder/sander to mould to the curve shape? a bit time consuming, but it might help to fit the cover nicely. theoretically speaking lah  thumbup.gif
