Pretty much not much difference. Like you said just for "emotional" thing.
Yup, my emotions like the DDR4 though... OK update: I checked with the Lenovo shop in MidValley again, they have the Y50/Y70 on display, not the new Y700. The shop manager/etc. mentioned it would arrive end of November, if I heard correctly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JVNMmsN3CoWARNING: Thin laptops can have thermal throttling...This apparently affects the Lenovo Y50/70 because of its thinness. I haven't been able to confirm. I ~can~ confirm this occurs with MacBook Pro Retina 15" mid-2014. Turbo boost throttles from 3.2ghz for four cores down to 2.7ghz or lower under full load (and CPU temp is almost 100degC)... Even if you "force"/overclock 3.2ghz in such a situation CPU temperature even with full fans will shoot past 100degC and it will throttle/shut down anyway to prevent frying the CPU.
In comparison, Asus G55 can handle 3.2ghz at 90degC under full load, no throttling. The latest Alienware 15" I checked out today is quite bulky IMO so I assume it can handle overclocking (and it has a 980M anyway so I'm sure it has some pretty beefy CPU and GPU cooling).
Please advise if you have experienced any gaming laptop with thermal throttling where it cannot maintain the rated turbo boost speed at 4 cores under full load. Check out
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/mot...ng-utility.html ...You can also overclock through bus clock (DISCLAIMER: YOU MAY VOID YOUR WARRANTY, DAMAGE YOUR LAPTOP ETC).
FWIW Asus G55 3630QM... I can overclock the CPU 3.2ghz to 3.3ghz, run it full load for hours (without GPU overclock of course)... But I usually don't because I overclock the GPU instead and leave the CPU and bus speed as is.
