QUOTE(kotmj @ Jul 8 2019, 04:50 PM) ![]() Ach, zer beautee. With the Made in Japan on the dial and caseback that I paid extra rm61 for. The mini turtle is a more upscale version of the turtle. The bezel has both high polish and satin brushed finish and has Rolex style dimples. The turtle has just a high polish with pretty blunted and indistinct knurling ala skx007. The dial lume plots have metal surrounds (applied indices) whereas the turtle is purely printed. The crown is angular and a thing of beauty. In the padi edition, the dial is textured ala Seiko presages and grand Seikos. [attachmentid=10279530] |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Jul 22 2019, 08:50 AM) but i still read of ppl in wus buying it new... so there is stock out there somewhere. It's like how the SKX price have shot up like crazy after the 100th time rumours circulate that its being discontinued.limited also is irrelevant since it was produced for many yrs and literally thousands out there. don't be like those sohais saying it's rare... Best part is Seiko never said anything about the discontinuation of the SARBs or SKX, just come from a couple of internet sites (although reputable ones). |

QUOTE(kotmj @ Jul 24 2019, 12:16 PM) Notice the Grand Seiko hand lengths conform to the canonical/historic formula: You do see this in some of the SARB models.1. The hour hand just touches the base of the hour indices. 2. The minute hand reaches to the TOP of the minute markers. A.L. Breguet and the clockmakers of old including that of the Big Ben used this formula. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(kotmj @ Aug 7 2019, 01:45 PM) The mini turtle is smaller, and has a more premium build. It has metal surrounds around the hour markers. Its bezel has both brushed and polished finishes. Probably because overall, the mini turtle looks imbalance. However, in the market, the turtle has been very successful while the mini turtle is not. |

I personally thought if I wanted something similar, the SKX was much better than the mini. At 42mm I don't think it's small, but rather it face way more competition from other divers of similar size.
However, most also rated the SKX as a more than good enough option and thus it didn't take off as well. I felt it was neither here nor there. W&W had a review that kinda said the same thing. https://wornandwound.com/review/review-is-t...the-new-skx007/ |

QUOTE(kotmj @ Aug 7 2019, 04:30 PM) Oh yes, I don't think the SKX will win specs contest. Just like the article said, many just don't see the mini turtle as a big upgrade over the SKX thus they lose a chunk of audience there, and many still recommend the cheaper SKX over the mini turtle for those that is on the fence thus they lose another chunk of buyers there. Not to mention the cyclops was a big divisive factor back then amongst the community which won the mini turtle no favours. |

Anyway, this might probably kill off the mini turtle. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(andrewhtf @ Aug 7 2019, 07:01 PM) not sure, not my pic. but i have read in forums that the cyclop piece is removeable using a certain chemical. They don't want you to buy Seiko diver for 800, they want you to buy a Seiko diver for 3k.not necessarily. the old SKX is ISO cetified 200m WR rating, which can be a selling point. this new seiko 5 sports? no more ISO certified. People who actually need 200m diving watch but only wiilling to spend no more than rm800 for it are few and far between, nor is that a market Seiko wants. Considering the amount of 'homage' micro brand vomit out every week but no issue clearing 2k for it, Seiko is leaving a lot of money on the table. SKX is I think one of the last line that have not been X'ed, so it's ripe time for it. People who buy SKX is likely be okay with the 5 but looks like a diver anyway. |
