Hi

I'm looking for a phone to replace my trusty iPhone 4, seriously, if its still supported by apple and newer apps can be installed, I wouldn't mind using the ip4 for another 2`3 years.

So I did some extensive homework on what should I replace it with....a 5S? a 6S? a Note 5? a Z5? And so I was playing with wife and colics android, and really dint like it. I'm really not used to it, simple things also seems tough to me.

Now I'm thinking of a 6S 64GB. its RM3699. I prefer to buy onsite, so even though Online might cost a few hundred lesser, I still buy at the store. I checked other options like Maxis, Celcom, Digi and the packages are just too much. I only use about Max 1.2GB data a month. The rest I use Wifi at home.

But I check U mobile and seems like it they have what I wanted, the i40 package. I went to check out at U Mobile store since cant understand the webby so much.

But after reading the Umobile pamphlet, a iphone6S Plus 64Gb cost only RM3572 (cash) with the i40 contract. And Since I'm using Hotlink, I dun mind using my old number to port to the Umobile. Monthly also I only need to pay bout RM31.50 (instead of 40 since there is an upfront payment).

So what is the advantages and disadvantages buying from Umobile?
Instead of getting a 6S 64Gb from Apple store, I can get a iPhone 6S plus 64Gb at lesser price from Umobile.

Thanks in advance

(And I did check the Umobile thread created but seems like too slow moving)

Depends. Hotlink coverage (4G) > UMobile coverage (3G). Also 4G LTE means usually you use more Internet since pages load way faster. So you might see your data usage increase. Keep that in mind whichever you pick.

The question is are you willing to pay the extra RM 200 for better coverage?

Well basically, Umobile on paper is very great vs real life is very sucks, still depends on your location. Try using Umobile prepaid or any postpaid which not required you to sign any contract with them for few days/weeks. Then you take their phone contract i40. I almost felt for this, decided to cancelled my registration.

Even i40 iphone they say can terminate anytime, but you need to pay sum of subsidized discount as penalty. Your upfront gone too.

Thats a nice way of putting it

But iphone6S plus 64gb with Umobile is RM3,572, at Applestore is RM4,199. So its quite a big difference

yeah, should be no penalty, but upfront gone and need to pay back subsidized (retail - subsidize = price of device in the brochure). If you gonna use Umobile for long time, you might save a lot, else, early terminate nothing much to gain.

I will check with my colic who are using Umobile how is it at the workplace, at home not so worried as using Wifi.

But as you say, coverage is always top priority

Anyway, I'll check out digi too, seems like they also got a good deal with the RM50 monthly data (price of devise is RM3,610), need to go to a digi store to find out more, websites dun tell all

I've tried maxis, DiGi, Celcom and U Mobile - there really is no perfect telco, all depends on the coverage at the locations you work, live and play. I will say this though, personally for me, I feel that U Mobile has the worst customer service. When I first opened a line with them I put in a RM300 deposit for international roaming. After I terminated my line, they told me they would offset my last bill (less than RM100) from my deposit and refund the balance. After 4 months they sent me a lawyer letter to collect the remaining RM100. I called their customer service hotline which no one bothers answering and even went to their service centre to give them hell personally. It took another two months or so before the issue was settled. I didn't experience this crap with either DiGi or Celcom when I ported out. So anyway, as far as I'm concerned, U Mobile is "you get what you pay for".

I'd recommend Digi as coverage is wide also. Now I'm using old plan iplan50, contract end already. and the plan50 you talk about only bind for 1 year.

Looks like its a good option to go to Digi, it also has an offer. Most of my friends and colics using Umobile specifically to surf internet and most are using those 2 handphones. Some area that they cannot connect to digi, maxis, they will use Umobile. So actually its like a backup. I'm not interested in backup networks, so I will go for Digi package, the iplan50 is just right for me.

Telco choice fully based on your location and frequent places you are at. For me Celcom remains unbeatable followed by Maxis. Both Digi n UMobile still has no LTE yet at my place. Worst 3g is UMobile.
