Damn that its actually a great idea. Thx.

One more question, the etech u talked about, do they help me assemble all the stuff together or do I need to do it myself
*
They can assemble for you on the spot.

SDD help decide

need decide quick need to confirm order today/tomorrow.
-simple office use condition.
-must be reliable, less break down history
-speed not a concern as its ssd its already fast enough
-prefer cheaper if possible but not as important as reliable.

Here is my shortlist from the supplier whom going to built my PC (not much choice)
RM 209 Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB
RM 220 SAMSUNG 2.5” 650 SERIES 120GB SSD
RM 249 TRANSCEND 370S SERIES 128GB

I assume all are 3 year warranty.
Kingston Hyper x is cheap any good? but dont trust Kingston SSD since V300 bait/switch
Samsung 650 (3D V-NAND) not much is know with this product, but its samsung should be reliable?? probably bit slower
Cant find liteon 120GB version from my supplier

May concider upgrade.
RM 402 LITEON 900S 256GB SSD SATA3 (PX^^SCS-256L9S)
RM 396 LITEON 2.5“ MU2 240GB SOLID STATE DRIVE (PX-PE3-CE240)
RM 405 Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD SATA3 (SHFS37A/240G)

I could possibly buy SSD from another supplier if price is right, eg Sandisk, Liteon, evo 120gb version
any recommendation welcome.
*
Kingston HyperX Fury will do, bought few units for my friends a month ago, no problem so far.

Any charges?
*
No additional charge last time, but not sure about now, I think it is still free, if they charge you then you can try to assemble it yourself at home if you know how to assemble all the parts, you can learn from YouTube if you don't know how to do it.

is it mainstream now to use a SSD for OS, and a HDD for storage? i plan to buy a desktop and use it at least 5 years without upgrade...
*
That's what people is doing now, SSD for OS and frequently used software and HDD for file storage.

Unless you are rich and willing to spend over 1k just for a 1TB SSD, if not then this is the way to go.

RM 209 Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB
RM 211 SanDisk X300 after voucher (apps only CNY28) RM183 !!
http://www.lazada.com.my/genuine-128gb-san...sd-1790261.html

I think I stay with Sandisk not because its cheaper after discount
but because i think they are more reputable and they make their own 1st tear chips, kingston buys chips from dont know whom.

terence_nwb what you think stay with Sandisk?
your friends have any issue with Sandisk SSD line?

Never tried SanDisk SSD so no comment from me sweat.gif

thanks for your recommendation.  notworthy.gif

as i still need windows 10 (RM450+) and a dvd writer (RM60+), so this spec might over my budget. any part can cut some cost?  sweat.gif

i can still add usb ports to the pc case right?
*
For Windows OS license key, try to get OEM key to save money, around RM200+/-, or just get Windows 7 (even cheaper I think) and upgrade to Windows 10 for free. OEM key activation is permanently tied to the first activated mobo, so it is not transferable, if you think you will build another PC again and would like to reuse the key, please opt for retail key (more expensive).

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 487
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 290
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 200
Zotac GTX750Ti 1GB GDDR5 ZT-70702-10M - RM 499
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Samsung DVD-RW SATA ODD - RM 62
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 180

Total: RM 2122 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

Add USB port? I think it should be enough, but if you want to use USB Hub extender then go ahead.

You listed only CS:GO and Dota 2 and both of them aren't hardware demanding so you can easily build an ITX rig under 3k with monitor included, if you plan to try other games like triple A titles then upgrade the CPU to i5 and GPU to GTX960/R9 380/GTX970 etc.

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 485
Gigabyte H170N-WiFi - RM 569
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 196

Hi guys, wanna ask whether this spec is worth the penny
This rig mainly used for rendering software, i do know that it is waste of money to use non-k proc in Z series mobo
but is it worth if we use this mobo to increase the speed of the ram as the base speed for the ram will be limit to 2133mhz
sorry for any wrong informations here  sweat.gif

Intel Core i7-6700
Asus Z170M-Plus
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2666mhz 8GB
Seagate 1TB HDD
Asus Strix  GTX960 4GB GDDR5
Seasonic S12 620watts PSU
*
You can overclock a locked Skylake CPU with Z170 via BCLK overclocking (provided you install the correct BIOS), but due to BCLK overclocking, it will mess up the RAM frequency also, so meaning you won't get 2666MHz (likely to be slightly lesser than actual clock speed).

Going from 2133MHz to 2666MHz is not worth, you won't notice the real life difference, you will only see improvements if you benchmark it.

I recommend you to go at least 3000MHz if you really want to have high frequency memory.

[Budget] 3k including monitor

[Purpose] Gaming & editing

[Hardwares that will be re-use] keyboard mouse etc

[Monitor resolution] 24 1080p

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Dota2, Adobe editing software

[Personal preferences] Hopefully can play the new NFS without sacrifing too much of the game quality.

[Location]KL
*
The new NFS recommends a GTX970 or R9 290 for 1080p60 high settings, your budget can mostly fit a GTX960 (slight overbudget) or GTX950 (within budget) only, the system spec sheet says GTX750Ti can run at 1080p30 low settings, GTX950 is slightly stronger than GTX750Ti so I expect the frame rate will be around 45+.

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 779
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 289
Kingston 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 196
Palit GTX950 2GB GDDR5 StormX - RM 699
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Bitfenix Nova - RM 149
BenQ GL2460 - RM 510

Total: RM 3025 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

If your editing workload is low and gaming is the first priority, you can consider downgrading the i5 to i3 or increase your budget to fit a GTX960 for better gaming experience.

Normal retail shop will sell at MSRP, that's why expensive.

If you want cheap license key, you can look for Garage Sales section, but you have to be careful and make sure it is legit before you make the payment.

so you can actually overclock a locked Skylake, but still, even after asking google for more information about BCLK overclocking, i cant understand that much  sweat.gif , so, if someone is going to use the exact same spec as the one i mentioned before, should they get spec like this ?

Intel Core i7-6700
Asus H170M-Plus
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2133mhz 8GB
Seagate 1TB HDD
Asus Strix  GTX960 4GB GDDR5
Seasonic S12 620watts PSU

they can just replace with 2133mhz ram and H170 right ? will cut cost almost rm100+, or you have a better suggestion ?
*
That mobo is overpriced, mATX form factor at > RM 500, you can get Gigabyte H170-HD3 at less than RM 500 and it is ATX form factor.

And as for RAM, if you are staying at the base clock of DDR4 (2133MHz), no need to spend money and get high performance RAM, just get value RAM will do, the performance difference is too tiny to notice.

And for GPU part, how much is that 4GB GTX960? The R9 380 4GB is more powerful than it and is just around RM 1000.

noted on RAM, for the GPU 4GB GTX960 is RM1099, as for the R9 380 4GB, a lot of my friends advice to avoid AMD GPU, i dont know why is it, what i know is, the differences between NVIDIA and AMD is power consumption and the temperature (correct me if i'm wrong)
well if you can explain more on these GPU sure will help a lot  biggrin.gif
*
You should ask them why they advice you to avoid AMD card, if they cannot give a reasonable reason, then fanboy detected laugh.gif

Normally I will suggest people to go for Nvidia path due to lower power consumption so they can pair with cheaper PSU (if budget is low), but since you have a decent Seasonic PSU in your buying list, so I was thinking to promote R9 380 which is more powerful than GTX960 at same price point.

And yes AMD card consumes more power and temperature is slightly higher than Nvidia card, but in 300 series, they improved a lot and closed up the gap by quite a significant margin.

Choice is yours, if you happen to play Nvidia GameWorks titles a lot or need CUDA technology, then go for GTX960 path nod.gif

The current setup is still able to run triple A games, you just need to tolerate with lower graphics settings in order to have higher frame rate in game.

If you can top up your budget, opt for i5 6400 (+ RM 300) and GTX960/R9 380 (+ RM 250+/-).

hi terence, what is the best GTX 960 4GB below 1k or about RM900? is the extra 2GB really worth it for 960? thanks.
*
You can find Gigabyte GTX960 4GB WindForce here or Asus GTX960 4GB Turbo here.

If you only play Dota 2/CS:GO or other casual games then 2GB is enough, the extra 2GB is useful only when the game you play utilizes more than 2GB VRAM like GTA V, The Witcher 3 and other triple A titles.

QUOTE(MagnificM @ Feb 21 2016, 10:26 PM)
so, both GPU will differ even in games ? so if we're going to play more Nvidia GameWorks, does AMD GPU will reduce the performance and vice versa for Nvida GPU ? if it give a margin different, then i'm sure going for R9 380, if not, ill just go with GTX960, but i do check some reviews that GTX960 4GB doesn't have that much power to use that 4GB Vram compared to R9 380, is it true ? how about rendering performance ? are they on the same par ?  hmm.gif
*
Some games separate the GameWorks settings from other graphics settings, which you can completely disable them in game, some don't. If the game is optimized for both Nvidia and AMD cards, then R9 380 will yield higher frame rate, the difference is not huge but it is significant enough to bring you to a more stable 60 FPS.

GTX960/R9 380 is a mid end GPU which means we normally won't be able to max out all the graphics settings especially texture and environment settings, so VRAM usage won't be close to 4GB, 2-3GB is the most common usage pattern for this GPU category.

As for rendering, it depends on the software, if the software doesn't utilize GPU technology such as CUDA/OpenCL when rendering then you won't benefit from either one.

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Dota 2, CSGO, Dying Light, Witcher 3, Skyrim, Tomb Raider, GTAV, Mozilla Firefox

[Personal preference] Anything can

[Location] Selangor

Max settings include max AA and GameWorks settings? If yes then you need the highest end card like GTX980Ti/Titan X, Rise of the Tomb Raider is an example, if you want to max it out with max AA then you seriously need to invest in GTX980Ti, even it is only for 1080p screen, the famous GTX970/R9 390 can only produce 40 FPS (average) with all settings maxed out.

CPU is still good for modern games, so you can just upgrade GPU and PSU if needed.

And yea your budget can fit a GTX980Ti, but the question is "is it worth to spend so much?", well I will suggest you to hold on and wait for next gen GPU (Pascal and Polaris) first before upgrading your rig.
