I buy my own engine oil and filter. For Honda city. Rm80 for genuine Honda semi  and rm15 for genuine Honda filter. Buy from the shop where most workshops around get their supplies from.
But I'm okay with paying the labour rm15 at workshop, as its hassle free and wanna give biz to ppl also LA.

Hmm, Just my 2 cents concern, is the RM 15 filter from UMW ? or Honda logo ?

A recon oil filter due to their poor filter system may damage your engine for long term, even honda cost getting a bulks of 100 pcs will cost them RM 15.

Better be assured than regret. I only choose UMW oil filter or from Honda service centre smile.gif

Well I have been buying original toyota filter from my trusted spare part shop. Prelubed with plastic cover inside the red box. RM17 only.
It feels and looks genuine but I did not cut it open. Too much of a hassle.

I routinely service my car in one of the Shell Station in USJ.
when I ask for original oil filter, he will go to a box, inside a lot of Toyota labelled oil filters, charge me RM 25, how to know original or not. Can he sell fake ones.

There's a difference between fake and compatibles. Fakes are presumed as near copy of the original (packaging & product look) and may not be up to standards, compatibles or manufactured by 3rd party or OEM manufacturer, deemed as compatible for use. I'm assuming its a compatible product. There's numerous "compatible" air filters in the market for a long time and often priced lower than original. As for compatible air filters, most are generally acceptable but for oil filters, no telling how reliable. Its all sealed in a metal can, no clues of the internal construction.

OK..maybe so. I too am so wary of "fakes" in the market. Cannot trust too much these days, unless buy direct from service center.
There was news of Toyota coolant fakes too. I use this Toyota coolant exclusively in my car and have seen some website describing the difference of fake and original.
If I'm not mistaken Perodua also use a locally manufactured coolant that's green in color and sanction it as original. When the car was new it was filled with Toyota Long Life coolant. The Toyota coolant is really long life, I replace it once in 3 years...NO sign of any corrosion or rust. I doubt very much the "green type" can equal its performance.

Maybe other owners are familiar. Its sometimes the poor quality print, the box quality is not to premium quality. These are give away clues.
On another note, just like I visited Shenzhen last year, saw loads and loads of Kingston memory devices there. Difficult to tell what is fake or true or mostly for China market. My conclusion, I'm better off buying in Malaysia when I'm sure most reputable stores here will retail authorised merchandise and proper warranty. I hope car parts will be properly regulated, any compatibles are to be made known clearly to customer. Any liability is to customer when all is made known and clear. However, regulation doesn't solve the problem of cheating mechanics who fill/replace with something else and insist it's original stuff. That is blatant CHEATING!

If you have the chance, buy fully syn oil instead of semi syn.

from what i read, most people look at the immediate price and not the durability of the oil.

Semi syn u change every 5k or 6k....and with a filter...however fully syn, you change 10k-12k..with the same filter..so effectively...u will spend more for semi syn than fully syn

Exactly! thumbup.gif That's what I've mentioned also sometime earlier somewhere. It's not just due to the filter and labor cost but the cost/km for the oil by itself is also can be cheaper by using FS provided that you buy the FS oil at huge discounts like in Tesco/AEON.

yeap thats what i do too...but i typically change my filter over a span of 15k km twise so i strech it further

fully sys can last 15k-20k ( depending what car you drive). I drive a diesel, its hotter but it also rev's lesser than a petrol to reach optimum speed so i typically change mine at 15k with filter change every 7.5k km interval.

been doing that for 6 years now and car still runs like a charm

what if super low mileage cars...full synthetic to reach 10k will be 3-4 years

For me I follow the recommended OIC which is 10k kms for my car because the oil filter is only recommended up to that distance which is still perfectly fine paired with FS oils. Further more I often drive a bit fast and hit max rev so 10k kms is reasonable. I don't want to waste time and money just changing filter only.

Yup, still should be fine as long as the car still regularly driven even at short distances, or driven at least like once or twice a week.
