I always buy from Tesco and sometimes Giant.

I only aim for Fully Synthetic ones.

Mostly they sell ( on offer/promotion):

1. Castrol Edge 5w-40 4Litre - Mostly RM149
2. Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 4Litre- Mostly RM149 sometimes even lower RM129
3. Mobil 1 New Life 0w-40 4Litre- Mostly RM149 but very rare got offer this one
4. Mobil Super 3000 5w-40 5Litre- Recently got offer I bought for RM129 I think .

Got 1 more always offer but I don't buy :

Mobil 1 Peak Life 5w-50 4Litre- Mostly RM 149 but I cannot use because 50 weight engine oil is not meant for normal passenger cars. Too heavy.
*
Tesco also often sells Total on promotion, both semi & FS @ 5ltr bottles.
The Mobil 5w50 FS are also suitable for normal cars, just depends on what car. I've used it before and it's fine.

Sometimes you need to visit Tesco more frequently, it has offer for few days and the promo is quite cheap.
Castrol 10W-40 (semi synt) 4 liters or Mobil 1 (5 liter) sale around RM89 only.
Tesco at Ampang.
I do buy 2-3 bottles in 1 shot when it cheap. Long run, its save money and time to hunt for the engine oil, but remember to look at engine oil manufacture date. Shelf life for engine oil is about 1 year.
*
Buy FS oil during promotion in Tesco is even much better value for money compared to semi. Semi oil only max discount up to rm40 but FS oil can be as much as rm100-110 discount. More over FS oil can last twice as long as semi, so it save even more than semi.

Oil shelf life can be more than 1yr, if not mistaken even up to 2-3yrs.

Eneos is a good oil, I've used up to 10k km and no problems whatsoever.

Good to hear you are user too.

I got the oil from work shop. Eneos sell it but at a higher price smile.gif
*
I bought mine from Jusco 2yrs ago, they were on sale for only rm90+ @ 4 ltr bottle. It was Mitsubishi Oil 5w40 FS made by Eneos.

nowadays many modern cars use 5-30 oil. do any supermarket sell 30 oils ?
*
If semi then still quite many selling but if FS then almost none. I saw only once last week in AEON Jusco Setiawangsa where they offer Shell made in US 5w30 FS in 4x1 quart packages.

Those are the days smile.gif

I got it for almost rm200
*
Regular price for the Mitsu Eneos oil is just rm129 at AEON Jusco.
Rm200 is very expensive, unless you bought some ester based Eneos oil.

Eneos sell over rm200
*
That's actually very similar to the Mitsubishi Eneos oil I bought, exactly the same viscosity and API grade and same bottle shape, just different label and bottle color. That's why I never want to buy oil at normal workshops anymore. laugh.gif

Service at Eneos. Use their EO should be safe from fake oil.
So far so good. Everything in 110-120 for semi syn.
*
Can get full synth oil at that price. smile.gif

How about castrol ?

FS oil really that price? I have no idea...
*
Seldom use Castrol because also not often on promotion, but sometimes got promo in Tesco.
FS oil actually got a few grades. The higher end ones like Motul, HKS, Amsoil, Liqui Moly etc2 are all >rm200. Then there are the normal ones which can be <rm150 when on promotion (but their normal prices are also >rm200). Eneos also makes higher end and normal ones. For me, driving just normal cars, I don't see the need to spend money using such expensive oils when I can get still good enough quality trusted oils at much cheaper prices in those supermarkets. Of course if you ask those shops where you bought the oils at normal/expensive prices, they'd say the oils in the supermarkets are fake la, low quality la, not suitable for Malaysia spec/climate la, etc2 typical whatever bullshit coz they just cannot sell at such low prices. laugh.gif Unfortunately some consumers do believe those BS and hence keep throwing money away at those shops. doh.gif

With labor charge. Oil filter etc all in. I think ok la.
Btw semi I also change at 5k km. usually 4plus change adyy
*
But if you really calculate, using FS oils bought at promo prices will still be much cheaper.
Let's take my latest example here:
Bought a few mths ago Mobil 3000 5w40 FS oil @rm119 for 5 ltr bottle or rm95.20 if convert to 4tlr volume
Filter cost was rm25, also bought on my own.
Labor cost was rm20 at the nearest workshop at my place.
So total was only rm140.20 but can last 10k km which is only rm70.10 for 5k km. So compared to your cost of rm110 all in for 5k km, your spending is still 57% more expensive than mine. smile.gif

that's really a lot cheaper than PETRONAS synthium 5000/7000 sold at petrol stations, which cost over rm 200 per 4 liter bottle.

Petrol stations can't do anything on the pricing of their engine oils, its the RRP from the manufacturers themselves.
*
That's why I never buy at petrol stations also.

I've been buying engine oil from Hypermarket.

Previously Shell Semi was at RM 89
and Shell FS is RM 139

I stock up due to promotion

I used to for Lim Tyre and they charged me RM 130 + for semi oil which cost RM 89 in Tesco
Don't jump to conclusion that I'm not letting them to earn but they also charged Labour Cost seperately on bills.

then Oil filter is RM 25 which I got it for RM 12 for the same one but buying in 10 pcs.
Bulk purchase.

Is a lot of savings at the moments that can be consider.

Just my 2 cents that I :
Started changing my own oil, save up to RM 50 each time...
The economy is so bad that I have to DIY a lot of things.

That's the spirit! thumbup.gif

If you have the chance, buy fully syn oil instead of semi syn.

from what i read, most people look at the immediate price and not the durability of the oil.

Semi syn u change every 5k or 6k....and with a filter...however fully syn, you change 10k-12k..with the same filter..so effectively...u will spend more for semi syn than fully syn
*
Exactly! thumbup.gif That's what I've mentioned also sometime earlier somewhere. It's not just due to the filter and labor cost but the cost/km for the oil by itself is also can be cheaper by using FS provided that you buy the FS oil at huge discounts like in Tesco/AEON.

yeap thats what i do too...but i typically change my filter over a span of 15k km twise so i strech it further

fully sys can last 15k-20k ( depending what car you drive). I drive a diesel, its hotter but it also rev's lesser than a petrol to reach optimum speed so i typically change mine at 15k with filter change every 7.5k km interval.

been doing that for 6 years now and car still runs like a charm
*
For me I follow the recommended OIC which is 10k kms for my car because the oil filter is only recommended up to that distance which is still perfectly fine paired with FS oils. Further more I often drive a bit fast and hit max rev so 10k kms is reasonable. I don't want to waste time and money just changing filter only.

QUOTE(kkk8787 @ Nov 12 2015, 10:10 PM)
what if super low mileage cars...full synthetic to reach 10k will be 3-4 years
*
Yup, still should be fine as long as the car still regularly driven even at short distances, or driven at least like once or twice a week.
