My dad used to own esso stations in the 80s... He said even back then fake engine oils were rampant..basically ppl will just collect old ones and go through filtration process and refill into new bottles.. if u own garages and so on u dun even need to worry to seal it properly..jus go into your garage, while walking out just pretend to open the bottle like u broke the seal d, when customer look at the bottle it is genuine bottle that has been used again and again. He advice me dun go to normal under tree workshop a lot are fakes. He said better service centers or he himself still buying from petrol stations..
But I know a lot of ppl are buying from supermarkets are those genuine

Recycle oil are common. In fact, should be done for environmental consideration.

If it is a reputable refinery that does proper job, why not?
If it is a back alley color dye + filtration . no no

Besides, fully synthetic oils are usually refined, processed oil.
mineral oil are usually processed from crude oil

agree...but sadly a lot of it are done illegally, just some filtration no added additive and so on. but the legal way and proper way should be encouraged

I always buy from Tesco and sometimes Giant.

I only aim for Fully Synthetic ones.

Mostly they sell ( on offer/promotion):

1. Castrol Edge 5w-40 4Litre - Mostly RM149
2. Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 4Litre- Mostly RM149 sometimes even lower RM129
3. Mobil 1 New Life 0w-40 4Litre- Mostly RM149 but very rare got offer this one
4. Mobil Super 3000 5w-40 5Litre- Recently got offer I bought for RM129 I think .

Got 1 more always offer but I don't buy :

Mobil 1 Peak Life 5w-50 4Litre- Mostly RM 149 but I cannot use because 50 weight engine oil is not meant for normal passenger cars. Too heavy.

Understand the policy of garvemen created for their own cronies companies to monopolize the Msia business market.
Sad but true.

Sometimes you need to visit Tesco more frequently, it has offer for few days and the promo is quite cheap.
Castrol 10W-40 (semi synt) 4 liters or Mobil 1 (5 liter) sale around RM89 only.
Tesco at Ampang.
I do buy 2-3 bottles in 1 shot when it cheap. Long run, its save money and time to hunt for the engine oil, but remember to look at engine oil manufacture date. Shelf life for engine oil is about 1 year.

Tesco also often sells Total on promotion, both semi & FS @ 5ltr bottles.
The Mobil 5w50 FS are also suitable for normal cars, just depends on what car. I've used it before and it's fine.

Buy FS oil during promotion in Tesco is even much better value for money compared to semi. Semi oil only max discount up to rm40 but FS oil can be as much as rm100-110 discount. More over FS oil can last twice as long as semi, so it save even more than semi.

Oil shelf life can be more than 1yr, if not mistaken even up to 2-3yrs.
