Hi guys, need your help please. I'm from Egypt & planning to get my degree in Animation from Malaysia.

Currently comparing MMU Cyberjaya vs UTAR.... Bachelor of Multimedia (Hons.) Animation and Visual Effects
Anybody here had experience with creative multimedia programmes in those universities? How is it to live there?

UTAR course fees is cheaper around RM 53,950 vs MMU RM 78,200, So I wonder is it worth going to MMU?
I'm not getting any help from my parents and it will be difficult supporting my own through freelance work however I'm willing to squeeze my bills in order to get better education.

Also I only speak English & Arabic and I got the impression MMU would be more diverse therefore easier to make friends versus UTAR more Malay and Chinese so communication would be hard... is this true?

Would appreciate your comments, Thank you!

i cant give any input on the course. There are many international students in MMU, no idea how is it like in UTAR. If you are already in Malaysia, perhaps head over to the education fair or open day to get more info.

Hi guys, I'm currently considering IT in MMU and hope that I can clear off my doubts here smile.gif))

1) What's information system about? I've looked up for this term and read about the core subjects shown at the MMU website but still unsure what is IS really about sweat.gif

2) How's IS in MMU cyberjaya? I heard that data communication and networking at MMU Melaka is disappointing but never heard of reviews on others. I'm still deciding whether to choose IS or business intelligence and analytics.

3) Which one teaches more on coding? IS or business intelligence and analytics? And what are the types of programming language that will be taught?

4) I did A-levels for my pre-u. So I'm wondering if maths in these two courses are anything similar to maths in A-levels? Or it's something totally different?

5) My dad is afraid that the uni that I'm going does not provide latest learning aids (like software and etc.). I would like to know how's learning aid in MMU so that I can convince my dad to let me do IT in MMU. He prefers me to do it in XMUM because he thinks XMUM is still considered new and things will be more updated but I think MMU is more known for IT courses than XMUM. So, I need evidence to convince him since I can't really find evidence online sweat.gif (or maybe I missed it unsure.gif)

Thanks in advance for spending time to read through my questions smile.gif Hope someone can help me through these notworthy.gif

*sorry for bad grammar too smile.gif

Hi, while waiting for answers from seniors perhaps you can ask it at the general edu section too. Have you visited the open day?

Information Systems focuses on the study of complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create, and distribute data. Essentially, this is computing in an organizational context, typically in businesses. It serves as a bridge between the technical and management communities within an organization. It is essentially a cross between business and information technology.

Of course, other universities might interpret it differently.

However, if you want coding - don't do IS or business intelligence and analytics at all - at best, they would learn scripts and tools only. Coding is the primary domain of Computer Science and more precisely - Software Engineering.

Tell your dad - learning aids (software and tools) are not as important as fundamental knowledge. No university in the world can teach you the latest in tech tools and using the most state-of-the-art equipment - best they can do is make do with the most updated ones. It's the techniques and fundamentals that count.

But why just consider Xiamen and MMU? Why not Sunway, TARUC, APU or KDU?

For animation - MMU is better between the two. But i would seriously ask you to consider the One Academy - they are the best out there for Animation. They beat MMU hands-down for lecturers, facilities and content.

I think I will comment on q4 only

Q4
in 1st year math subject mostly would be the same (or something you learn before)
If you don't skip class and do the tutorial question You would be fine , I can't tell you much about 2nd year and 3rd year since me myself is still a 1st year student (almost 2nd year)
But yeah ,I fail my math in stpm (1.33cgpa if not mistaken)but now I can get 3.7 something in math , so I think you probably would be fine if u can pass A level

Thank you for the explaination smile.gif

I thought of software engineering before, but I always struggle for maths (I mean add maths) and I prefer to do a more applied one like IS.

tbh, I'm not considering XMUM at all that's why I'm finding ways to say no to my dad smile.gif I'm looking at MMU cause the IT society has good reviews and since I won't be staying at hostel if I'm studying in Selangor or KL, I don't want to spend most of my time on travelling to campus. Transport fare maybe cheap but it's a waste of time (my past experience was really awful)

but in your opinion, which uni, MMU or APU better for IS?
