Custom cooling solution, I/O type & numbers, colour scheme, size, value added feature like LED lighting etc, OC ability (not much difference anyway cos all use same chip)

When u wanna buy, see people do review with charts. Then go find one that is within budget and the fastest one you can buy. No way anyone can say which card is good. Because spending thousands just to test display cards is kind of ridiculous. Unless you do it for money.

I was researching on these cards last month or so. If I am not mistaken, MSI or Asus got the best reviews for GTX 970. Difference shouldn't be too much.

Asus has longer lasting high quality parts, but Gigabyte wins for Malaysians because of better support, or at least thats what ive been told. Asus reportedly sucks huge ass whenever you need to return your ware for warranty coverage.
Theres a reason Malaysian traders love to price Gigabyte cards more expensively than all else in Malaysia. High end Gigabtte cards are also usually using higher binned chips. Dont quote me though. Im just a poor man who got lucky in the silicon lottery that his Leadtek GTX 970 can overclock as high as Asus. Normal people buying cheap brandds arent so lucky. |

Just buy the cheapest. No significant difference except minor clock speed.
I have used many brands...ASUS, Gigabyte, Saphirre, PowerColor, MSI. All no problems. Just don''t buy unknown brand you never heard b4. This post has been edited by Matrix: Sep 22 2015, 10:33 AM |

QUOTE(unknown warrior @ Sep 22 2015, 10:36 AM) Basically all vendors used custom heatsinks. I haven't seen any vendors with a reference design. It's just a matter of how good those heatsinks are.Anyway. OC GPU doesn't really bring much improvement. Coz most already OCed a bit by default. You can try your luck to push a bit more, but the difference is negligible. Gave up OC GPU long time ago. |

OCing GPU is still useful in situations when you want that extra frames to reach 60fps minimum, especially when you dont want to compromise detail settings.Anyway. That said, i rarely overclock GPU these days. 1.3k isnt exactly pocket change for poor people like me, so i want to keep my GTX 970 working as long as i can. Thankfully i play mostly old games. |

basically Nvidia give them each company a reference card, and they tweak to their own version back then the difference was staggering, nowadays not much |

yes, they attempt to add in their own feature and over or lower clock a bit, then start selling, so even the chip is the same, performance and power consumption wise is different, the chip is the engine, same engine different gearbox can mean big different.

QUOTE(Anonymous34 @ Sep 22 2015, 05:19 PM) Thats why I cri, why did I drop my 570 Are you sure? Because i turn my settings all the way up (not exceeding 3.5GB VRAM) play GTA V no problem, only lag when using minigun (which is a bug actually). And my GPU temp never go ever 75 degree celcius...If I sell my iPad Mini now, of course got cash to upgrade. But spending another RM1k just for GTA V(I only play dis), cannot justify the cost |

If you are familiar with Nvidia cards, they are prone to artifacts when they gets old, unless u are not intend to use it for a very very long term. The longevity of the card depends on its power design (Voltage regulator module), quality of the component used (capacitor, chokes, MOSFETS). If u look back the Sapphire HD7xxx series, a lot of the card has SMD capacitor burned, those are not your typical electrolytic caps, they don't bloat, when they burn, they burned a hole through your card, rendering your card useless. This is an example of cheapskating on quality of component. So... this is a manufacture to manufacture differences.

QUOTE(amxpayne67 @ Sep 22 2015, 05:33 PM) Well you might wanna tone down your setting a little bit, so you can get the smooth 60FPS. Perhaps your VRAM usage exceeding 3.5GB. Now, I can achieve it with OC. But only 2xMSAA and TXAA must off. I also notice once exceed 3.5gb slow because of that issue you and I know, I OC gao gao to 3700mhz, no help, now I OC even more. |

You OC so much later get thermal throttle and maybe thats why your performance drop liao. |

speaking of getting only 3.5gb vram from advertised 4gb gtx970, will it have any significant different in performance gaming? why is there such issue? other card don't have problems as those in gtx970? ie, we buy 2gb vram , we can get 2gb of vram performance?

If u check the garage sales for used very very old GPU, those >5yrs old type
usually u see more brands like Asus, Gigabyte, Galaxy, zotac still selling and working u wont see MSI, leadtek, sapphire, infact MSI is the least common. All that can tells u how reliable a brand is. I have good experience with Gigabyte & Galaxy. Their GPU can last quite long. Gigabyte particular last easily 5yrs without problems. Another tip is if u are getting a GPU with long PCB(printed circuit board), it is highly recommend u get those with a backplate on, so to prevent card wrapping. Card wrapping is bad in long time will kill GPU. Another tip = Stay away from reference GPU. They are unreliable no matter what brand u get. |

Amd got Vulkan(mantle) and latest directx from microsoft improve gaming benchmark by a lot!. but of course the game must be supported.
By the way, I go for MSI first, and then Asus. MSI have nice design and colour. EVGA, hard to find seller. so no buy. another differences is their overclock. This post has been edited by akhmedisonline: Sep 22 2015, 07:58 PM |

i bought 2 Zotac 970 few months ago....
it comes with 5 years whooping warranty... it covers overclocking mishaps too... of course within reasonable usage la. I bought for 1399 i think ..the custom PCB for OC is so powerful and its even faster than stock 980 by 5-10% and on par with some custom 980.. crazy. |

oh well.. i bought 2 unit of gtx970 only to play Witcher 3 in highest settings possible, but it is a disappointment .. even at 2560x1440 it barely hit 60 FPS on many places, while some places hit 70-80.
I haven't play any game since then, only occasional movies ... its my big big regret dropping 5 digit $$ on a new pc only to play 1 game. |
