IMO, Taylor is an ideal place for studying business course. Or if u are interested, u can try Inti. But if u really want to search for low price college, UTAR not bad as well.

i can help you smile.gif

first, from the KLsentral, take the RapidKL bus number U80... then get off from the bus at the last busstop, (at the Seksyen 2)
after that, u just take the cab. From that point, i think the cab only charge RM3~4 to Unisel smile.gif

hope this can help u

utar is under MCA (technically is government lah), unisel dont know(if i not wrong , they got diploma only), if u are spm leaver , i recommend neither, just go for stpm.If u want to get a degree in fastest and easy way , then utar lol. But they dont collect too much $$ from student , result= facility sucks. The most importantly is the quality of teaching , my opinion is sucks overall although there are still some dedicated teacher there lah.

Hey to all young generations out there.. pls take note and PLS SPREAD THE MESSAGE TO ALL OF UR FRENS ...
If u all are going to choose which college to enter, pls NEVER try to put UNISEL in ur consideration...
its a bad university and u will regret coming here... NEVER GET CHEATED BY THEIR ADVERTISEMENT!!

REASONS:
1) Management is not systematic at all... all the staff are rude and lazy !
2) coming to PTPTN loan, u will hv to make an agreement wit them to automatically deduct the money to them...
and the balance they only bank in to ur account. The problem is: THEY ALWAYS DEDUCT MORE and u never get back
you money (THEY MAKAN UR MONEY) than ur balance money only will enter end of the semester...
U will find it hard to pay ur rent and usage for ur daily expenses.
3)They like to charge extra fees and charges to student in order to KOREK or DIG money from u..
4)ALL the staff there are not responsible and rude, never take care student problems and welfare.
5)lecturer are all lousy, ENGLISH also dunno how to speak well, lecturer no knowledge
6)UNISEL is located in somewhere so ULU, in some kampung.. come to accomodation, hard to get..

SO PLS TAKE NOTE GUYS AND GALS>.... Spread the news to all people.... DON GET CHEATED !!
*
1. Very normal
2. Huh? they provide auto deduct service? Most places require you to pay manually. How is that bad? Also, specify how much they deduct please?
3. Well, how they charge extra fees? Further elaborate pls
4. Again, very normal. Those who take care of your welfare are suppose to be your course advisor, if they provide one.
5. ALL lecturer are lousy, or some? No matter where you go, there's always good and not so good lecturer.
6. ULU places hv better study environment, no?

Welcome to university world. You need to take care of yourself, you're an adult now, so, don't depend on staffs of university. More often than not, they are not very helpful.

What's the purpose of having university staff in the first place?

To assist students, hence if they are not helpful (only know how to mind their business) why are they there?

By employing them, of course they are more knowledgeable than us (students), if we can't get their assistance, should i run around and ask students to help me instead?

And TS mentioned them being rude, so is that supposed to be normal? hmm.gif

The issue is that, whichever way it is, as long as they did not deduct the right amount (even if they deduct accidentally one more Ringgit), they are wrong - because they are the one wanting to make the agreement in the first place. The university has the responsibility that they carry out what is agreed in the pact. Unless, they provide with good explanations which I think TS doesn't receive for his/her impression on the staffs.

TS, did you bother to ask the 'rude and lazy' staffs about why they deduct more money than you think it is? Or you are bad in Maths?

Unfortunately, while they are SUPPOSED to help, most of them don't.
Depending on your definition on normal, they can or cannot be normal. What I meant when saying it's normal is that there are also many other universities which have rude staffs. Also, most of them deal with admin work, they are not there specifically to assist students (besides the Department of Students Affair).
But lets just face it, most of these staffs think that they are above students, hence, they think they can just be rude to us. However, don't misunderstand me. I am not saying it's acceptable. What I'm trying to say is that the prob TS face in his university is similar to many other local (private n public alike) universities.

I am just implying that the problems TS list out is a macro problem, not just faced by that particular university only.

By requesting him to specify how much they deduct, I meant to know perhaps they indeed stated that by auto payment, they will charge a small sum as service fee. Because, even when I pay my bill through bank, they also charged me about RM2 for service fee. Hence, IF the university overcharge ~rm2, it may just be service fee and was written but not observed by TS. However, if they overcharge like RM100 or 50, or even 10, then there's an issue. TS can bring it to the consumer's right because they are overcharging.
I just want to know whether TS indeed ask despite them being rude, or is TS only a keyboard warrior.

Yes, I think you used a more correct word than I did. I am wrong by saying its normal, I should've said it's usual. Thanks for pointing out.

im there. and yes the STAFF are all RUDE and LAZY. you need to push them to do their work.

and about the auto deduction, if they deduct more than you're supposed to pay, just go to the bursar there and ask for statement fees and ask them to forward the extra that they deducted to upcoming sem's fee. and you need to ask them to explain to you what they have deducted also. this one can't help, they really suck. have to always up to date with your financial status, or else they'll makan your money.

btw, most of my lects are good and i can say quite experienced. only had few lousy lects. guess im lucky laugh.gif

according to my friends that they had experience, the university auto deduct extra Rm200 to Rm300 sometime and some they deduct extra Rm1k also... So when this happens, the staff always say that it will be forwarded to the next sem, but one thing, Our balance
ptptn money is suppose to pay our rent, and any other expenses for that period of the whole semester and not to rely on our parents.
so, if this happens how are we going to budget enough money for all our expenses for that semester itself.

secondly, the staff they employ is to take care of our welfare and problems we face, when we need to clear the semester fees,
we have to go to the counter and request for the statement first, and that takes few days to prepare for u.. while the work actually
is only to print out.. so u cant settle your payment and get the clearance within a day.. sometime, it takes a week...
so how troublesome is that for u to go and visit the office everyday while u need to attend classes.. and for us, our ptptn
money only be out at the end of the semester where is going to be our final exams period.. so u guess how many students that
time will hv to get their payment clearance done..

come to lecturers, some of them are good.. but mostly are bad, one thing is because of their explanation in english is hard to
understand. some like to cancel classes and put it on public holidays . so irritating..
the university is located in a village area well there is also the advantage of it of quiet environment to study, but when
comes to finding accomodation, its hard, if u wanna stay at the hostel, u hv to register the resident before the coming semester
and the fear is, u will be scared to be located in the hostel at IJOK. so u check ur self where is actually the location between the student's residential area and the university.comes to transport if u don hv one, u will find it suffering everyday of going to class.

Well, then I think its quite unfair to condemn the whole UNISEL just because your course doesn't have good lecturers. (I'm not favoring UNISEL in anyway, in fact, I don't even know about UNISEL until I read this thread, just giving out my opinion on the issues you mentioned, which means that other universities may not be as good as you think)
Also, most university will only rebate on the following semester if they charged wrongly, sadly. But your uni seems to have a problem if deduction is wrong frequently. I feel you should make a serious complain to the higher management, and if still no action, consumer rights is your friend.
Another thing, it's a very serious offence to conduct classes during public holidays. Universities have been warned before. If you want, you can take action and complain to the higher education ministry.

MQA list them as a private university.
UNISEL is wholly owned and managed by the State Government of Selangor through Pendidikan Industri YS Sdn. Bhd. (PIYS), a subsidiary of the state-owned investment arm, Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad and established under the provisions of the Private Higher Education Institutions Act 1996. It is one of the two institutions of higher education owned by the state government via PIYS, the other being INPENS International College

Collect the necessary evidence and tell the newspapers about this. Let's see what will they publish. In the mean time, you could complain to the respective authorities like those mentioned.
More important thing is to keep your identity secret though, in case the university will want to take action against you.

Guys, New latest report:
31 August 2010, Macroeconomy class and test is going on at 2pm, Faculty Of business, University Industry Selangor
Batang Berjuntai campus...

Its Independence day and there is no respect for the country....
What is going on??

As mentioned, it's a very serious offence for university to have classes/test etc during a public holiday. You can always file in a complain to the ministry of higher education.

Collect the necessary evidence and tell the newspapers about this. Let's see what will they publish. In the mean time, you could complain to the respective authorities like those mentioned.
More important thing is to keep your identity secret though, in case the university will want to take action against you.
*
wow... don u guys think if the university take action againts me, than that means that student hv no say
in what they feel its not right? i taught in Malaysia there is 1 Malaysia and we practice democracy and also freedom of speech?
haha... SO NOW WE SEE THE REAL ISSUE WHAT IS GOING ON IN MALAYSIA'S EDUCATION SYSTEM.. =)

if they take action on me, i'll sure bring the issue up and spread the news to all Malaysians so that no one will enter
this University (UNISEL) anymore.. =)

Latest News: our PTPTN loan for our second phase still not in yet untill today.. where now is already our 9th week
of our lecture.. according to the rumours, the loan will only enter during our final exam period..
so we cant pay house rent, cant eat and buy books already plus other expenses..
where else, the first phase (3000 student) came in last month.. Don u guys think that is not fare to the
students that have not receive their loan?

i'm gonna say this once:

if for some reason UNISEL screwed u over, dont assume u know everything to know about the malaysian education system.

coz u probably win a case in court against UNISEL, but then the ministry will have an issue with u. that is something u DONT NEED. if i were u, i'll just take it up the ministry and get them behind u, not against u.

see, this is why i dont think malaysian students are ready for politics yet.

That's why I suggested bringing up to the ministry, instead of into the court/newspaper etc.

Also, PTPTN loan issue has nothing to do with the university. They are not the one that give out money..
TS, you're in what year currently?

the issue of PTPTN can be about the university actually. polytechnics are one IPT that takes the fees directly from PTPTN and only give out the students the rest.

Matters such as this need to be addressed directly to the Uni, if they don't want to hear it, bring it up to KPT (Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi).

Then again, as one of the Minister said... "U tak suka, U keluar"
Its that simple right?

My sister who lives in Penang applied for Unisel & was accepted to do Industrial Psychology.

Regarding the hostel, when does she need to apply? Does she apply now or on the registration day? How does it work? Based on the website, hostels are full..

Thank you!

If it were me, I wouldn't bother with that three institutions. There are better institutions, IMHO, if you can afford their tuition fees already, unless they have the special course that is unavailable in other places.

the lecturers are ex teachers, which is important, especially for teaching subjects.because it is a specialised course, that is the most important part, the skill to teach.if u just learn the theories without learning the important teaching skills,u would just look like a robot who churn out facts when teaching.hehe

There are so many universities in Malaysia.
Keep the options on.
Since you are going to spend your money, then spend it wisely.
What Harvin6 is correct, if you are for study then you just go on.

As one TESL Grad from Unisel, I need to ask, are you taking diploma or Degree. We have quite strong Degree program. But i'm not sure about the diploma program since it started on my last semester in Unisel. nway, i believe if the same lecturer still there, u shouldnt be worried.
The lecturer will be harsh on you, pushing you to the limt. buried you in coursework, pop quiz every now and then, a lot of presentation to help you built confidence for the future. They will teach you how to be a great teacher. In my exp, the lecturer is always approachable eventhough they seem unfriendly. Just remember, not to skip class, do your coursework and you will be just fine.

the environment,
tesl program is held in the main campus. our faculty is the 2nd largest after engineering. spacious classroom with aircond. tongue.gif .It is far from the city. So no distraction. if you want to go out from the campus, there is hourly bus that u can take. finance department is lead by org2 muka ketat and a bit sombong but since you only have to deal with them once or twice each semester, it shouldnt be a problem. Hostel rent is about rm 200 per month. if you manage to secure a room, it will be advantageous. but if you not, there is housing areas nearby. it just around 10 minutes walk. but no need to worry if you active in club and student undergraduates club for faculty. Food is OK. but there is kitchen is the hostel( u need to bring multicooker). During my time, eat at the faculty since the food is cheaper and there is a lot of variety. We have a big library, and also there is small library in the faculty itself. there you can see a lot of work done by your senior (including me). there is Wifi, during my time it was free, but i dnt know now. there is a gym (but i never use it)

The management.
Frankly speaking, the hostel management sucks, since they own by private co. unfriendly staff. b ut the facilities is nice.
Faculty management, is good. But the canselori used to be quite messed up but i think they improved now.

All in all, i welcome you to join my alma mata. TESL program there not only teaching you how to survived in classroom but also in real world. they always throw us in the deep sea, it might seem harsh, but u learnt how to survive in school. u might not think so while u are studying, but once u work, u see that all the stuff they done, make it so easy.

Bro if I were an employer I will choose MMU and Uniten students compared to other college.

But if u compare at the location, Uniten's business course is at Pahang (jungle area)
MMU is at Cyberjaya.
I would recommend MMU.

Segi college is okay too but the starting should be lesser than the uni stated above.

It is all about reputation I guess.

Segi college is okay too but the starting should be lesser than the uni stated above.

It is all about reputation I guess.

^ is correct.

Dont go to Segi. They just love your money. biggrin.gif

How about Taylors? Can afford?

Bro if I were an employer I will choose MMU and Uniten students compared to other college.

But if u compare at the location, Uniten's business course is at Pahang (jungle area)
MMU is at Cyberjaya.
I would recommend MMU.

Chill, no not last year, it's this year. The Minister of Higher Education scolded Unisel just recently because Unisel's supporting the abolishment of PTPTN and threatened to have PTPTN stop paying their student's tuition fee loans if they continue to make a fuss about abolishing PTPTN.

Like I said to other forumer, don't base your judgment with the racial ratio stuff. You're there for study, not for romancing or whatever. Mixing around with other races is a great thing to do, you can expand your views.

MMU has better rep than Unisel, so I prefer MMU for this.

Go see each of the course's syllabus and compare.

I've never been in both uni, this is just what i heard. Unisel has very problematic management. You can ask anyone else, and they will say MMU has better rep as well, and MMU has stronger alumni networks that possibly can help you in the future.

QUOTE(rteenz @ Mar 18 2012, 06:07 AM)

*
hmm good explanation....but can i know if studied tesl what kind of jobs that we could secure after grad?and what's the total course work mark and finals mark percentage for unisel?50% coursework and 50% finals =100% or 60/40 % ?? do reply me..

Most of my classmates now is in MARA as eng lect, Some in UitM. And most is in SChool it self. there also some in Private sector including me, In training Unit for companies like KLCC management and few other international co like wolter kluwers and not to forget a few private school all over.. Also a few inside the ministry of Education. Apart being in teaching environment, you can also opt to be translator and such. but need to take additional course @ british council for 6 month. I believe 1 of my classmate also currently working @ british council.

regarding coursework, during my time it's 70 - 30. 70 % coursework - 30 % final. So that why as long as u attend classes, concentrate on assignment and project, there is no reason y u should failed. BUt the ratio might have change now. BTW a few of my class mate and senior also lecturing in UNISEL.

I have to choose between MSU or UNISEL since these are the only IPTS with recognition from MQA. (If there are others, please state it below!) It's too bad Unitar's TESL isn't recognized.

So which university is better for the Bach. TESL programme? I need informations regarding these two institutions. I would appreciate a fast reply, the two intakes are approaching!

Hye there, I'm currently studying for my Degree in TESL in UiTM Shah Alam, and I asked about this matter to my lecturer. Most of them said that Unisel is better in term of private education. But did you apply for IPTA first? There is a lot of Universities that provide this program

I got KPTM also. What course did you get? And where is it? And of course KPTM is cheaper than Unisel. But Unisel is much better.

Wait a sec, unisel is cheaper? Unisel diploma will go up to 20k while KPTM is an IPTS fully funded by MARA. And plus you will get elaun per month if you study in KPTM.

I still havent go there yet. But the total fees in KPTM is about 5k only. But I dont think I will go there, because the value in diploma certificate is low and probably not recognized.

Hi,

I received offers from these universities, but I'm not sure which one to choose. Any opinions? How's the student's lives there? Accommodations, facilities, convenience in administration ( like easy to pay fees and get admin help of sort)?

Kolej University Islam Selangor
UNISEL (University Industri Selangor)

3, 4, 5, could be found on their websites

The total fees for Medical Laboratory Science (Hons) is RM 48,345.00 and required 4 years of studies. Your campus will be at Shah Alam where the Faculty of Biomedical & Health Science is located. As 'Do I need to stay at hostel?' Yes you need to stay at hostel provided you do not have transportation. But we are talking about IPTS here, no, there is no 1 year stay in hostel rule. To make sure, why not just CALL Unisel? I'm sure they are nice enough to tell you.

I'm not a student at Unisel, but seriously, some of these can already be found from their website. Just take an effort to actually SEARCH for them. As for Biomedical Science, you can try afterschool.com to search for more institution. As for course fees comparison... just go to their websites to check the fees. From there, you can already compare.

UTAR for cheaper fees. Only RM45,500 compared to Nilai RM60k.

I would strongly recommend TARUC. They are most experienced in the area of communications and especially in journalism compared to UNISEL. I have actually worked with several TARUC grads in communication and they seem to be quite competent in their area of knowledge (although it was more PR and advertising)
