Syrian Army Advances North Towards the Turkish Border in Latakia: 3 Villages Captured

user posted image

The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard has capitalized on the powerful Russian airstrikes plaguing the Islamist rebels in northern Latakia, capturing several sites that were firmly under the control of the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and their allies from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) three months ago.

On Tuesday morning in the Latakia Governorate’s northeastern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Qurdaha, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and Muqawama Souri (Syrian Resistance) – imposed full control over the strategic village of ‘Arafat after a violent battle with Jabhat Al-Nusra, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Liwaa Suqour Al-Ghaab.

Following the capture of ‘Arafat, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies advanced to the hilltop villages of Rwaysat Al-Sheikhou and Katf Al-Salat, seizing these sites from the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and Liwaa Al-Ghaab after pushing northwest from the strategic Jubb Al-Ahmar area of the Prophet Jonah Mountains (Jabal Nabi Younis).

As a result of the Syrian Armed Forces seizing ‘Arafat, they are now in position to strike the imperative mountaintop village of Kabani and the nearby village of ‘Ikko from their positions along Points 1182 and 1254 in the Kurdish Mountains (Jabal Al-Akrad).

The objective of this large-scale offensive in Jabal Al-Turkmen, Jabal Al-Akrad, and Jabal Nabi Younis is to seal the Latakia Governorate’s border with Turkey, while also sealing the Latakia-Idlib axis that has been a thorn in the government’s side since the summer of 2012.

US Navy to Equip 5 More Destroyers With Aegis Missile Defense Systems

user posted image

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Navy has awarded Lockheed Martin a $49.1 million modification contract to equip five more DDG51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers with Aegis ballistic missile defense systems, the US Department of Defense announced.

"This contract will cover the AWS [Air Warfare Systems] ship integration and test efforts for five new construction DDG 51 class ships, and the major modernization of five DDG 51 class ships," the announcement stated on Tuesday.

The contract provides for Aegis shipboard integration engineering, test team support, modernization team engineering support, ballistic missile defense test team support and AWS assessments, according to the Defense Department.

The contract also covers combat system modifications and upgrades for all current ships with all AWS baselines, the Defense Department added.

Russia has repeatedly expressed concern about US plans to dramatically expand its force of Aegis-equipped missile defense warships around Europe, escalating the arms race and upsetting established balance of forces.

Hybrid attacks may trigger NATO's collective defense article, says Stoltenberg

user posted image

BRUSSELS, December 1. /TASS/. NATO foreign ministers have taken a decision, in line with which hybrid attacks may trigger the application of the article on the pact's collective defense, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference upon the end of the first day of the foreign ministers' conference.

Article 5 of NATO's charter declares that aggression against one member-state shall trigger a military response from all other member-states.

Obama Unleashes Hunter-Killers On ISIS

The task force will be roughly 200 strong, based in northern Iraq, a second senior defense official said.

“You don’t know at night who’s going to be coming in the window. And that’s the sensation that we want all of [ISIS’s] leadership and followers to have.”

It’s the sharp end of the spear that will work with roughly 50 special operations advisers who are deploying to northern Syria later this month, to advise local forces how to fight.

WATCH: ISIS FIGHTER AIMS ROCKET LAUNCHER — ROCKET BLOWS HIM UP INSTEAD [GRAPHIC VIDEO]

QUOTE
A new video appeared online Tuesday, appearing to show an ISIS fighter setting up a shoulder-fired rocket-propelled grenade launcher, aiming it out a large hole in the wall of what appears to be an empty or abandoned building — and then receiving a very unpleasant surprise.

The video, which could be disturbing to some viewers, shows the rocket exploding before it fires at whatever target was in the alleged ISIS fighter’s sites. The video abruptly cuts as soon as the explosive rocket detonates.

The fate of the ISIS fighter and the camera operator recording what may have been an attempt to produce footage for an ISIS propaganda video are unknown — as are any further details on the context of the video, such a where and when the violent and presumably fatal accident was filmed, and who retrieved the footage and released it on the internet.

North Korea have threatened Turkey with nuclear missile strikes if they dare to take action against Russia, Ad-Diyar reports. Kim Jong-un has said that if Turkey confronts Russia or continues its support of ISIS in Syria and Iraq, then Pyongyang will not hesitate to launch a nuclear attack against them.

Mizan News agency reports that the North Korean leader has promised to “wipe Turkey off the map”

Tiger Forces Advance to Tal Al-Ahmar and Humaymah Al-Kabeera in East Aleppo: ISIS Defenses Crumbling

user posted image

On Wednesday morning in the Aleppo Governorate’s eastern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s elite special operations division known as the “Tiger Forces” – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Aleppo City and Salamiyah; Hezbollah; and Harakat Al-Nujaba (Iraqi paramilitary) – continued their march through the Deir Hafer Plains, striking the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) at a number of sites near the liberated Kuweires Military Airport.

The Tiger Forces and their allies began their large-scale assault at the outskirts of Humaymah Al-Kabeera, where they were confronted by a large continent from ISIS that was poised to obstruct their advance into this large village from the strategic hilltop at Tal Humaymah.

However, the Tiger Forces and their allies were able to bypass ISIS’ first line of defense to reach Humaymah Al-Kabeera’s northwestern perimeter; this rapid advance by the pro-government forces resulted in ISIS’ withdraw to the village’s parameters in order to prevent any infiltration.

Initial reports stated that the Syrian Armed Forces had captured half of Humaymah Al-Kabeera, but this was denied by a military source that is entrenched with the Tiger Forces near the Kuweires Military Airport.

Southwest of the Kuweires Military Airport, the Tiger Forces and their allies advanced from the Rasm Al-‘Abid Grain Silos to the strategic hilltop village of Tal Al-Ahmar, where they were once again confronted by a large ISIS contingent.

The hilltop village of Tal Al-Ahmar is imperative to ISIS due to its proximity to the Kuweires Military Airport; if captured by the Syrian Arab Army, ISIS’ forces in the western countryside of the Deir Hafer Plains will likely collapse, resulting in a massive retreat towards the city of Deir Hafer.

Russia to Provide Evidence of Turkish Involvement in Daesh Oil Trade

user posted image

QUOTE
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his family members are directly involved in illegal oil deliveries from oil fields belonging to Daesh (also known as the Islamic State) in Syria, according to Russia's Defense Ministry.

“Revenues from the sale of oil are one of the most important sources of activity by terrorists in Syria. They earn around $2 billion annually, spending these funds on hiring militants from around the world and equipping them with weapons, equipment, and arms,” Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said during a briefing in Moscow.

The ministry provided photographs of columns of oil fuel tankers on the Turkish-Syrian border. Fuel tankers with oil freely cross the border between Turkey and Iraq, according to Russia's General Staff.

“The main consumer of this oil stolen from the legal owners in Syria and Iraq is Turkey. According to available information, this illegal business includes the upper political leadership of the country, President Erdogan and his family,” Antonov added.

These oil revenues are used not only to enrich the Turkish leadership but to arm terrorists as well, the General Staff stated.

Oil from Daesh-controlled areas in Syria is shipped to refineries in third countries after being transported to Turkey, the head of the Russian General Staff’s operative command said Wednesday.

"Space reconnaissance has reliably showed that after crossing the border, tank trucks carrying oil head to the ports of Dortyol and Iskenderun," Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy told reporters.

Islamic State’s pilots are trained in Libya — media

user posted image

CAIRO, December 2. /TASS/. The terrorist organization calling itself the Islamic State has its pilots trained in Libya’s city of Sirte, the Asharq al-Awsat newspaper said on Wednesday, adding that high-tech simulators were being used in the process.

"The simulator allows for practicing take-offs and landings and the technique of determining the plane’s coordinates and communicating with the ground control centre," the paper says. "The first simulators for practicing the skills of running passenger planes were delivered to Libya in October. Two weeks ago two combat simulators were brought there."

There has been no evidence yet the terrorists have any aircraft at their disposal.

Sirte, on Libya’s Mediterranean Coast, has been in the hands of the Islamic State since August. The extremists said they were determined to make it the first major Islamic State base outside Iraq and Syria. The whole of Libya is in utter security chaos.

TURKEY’S BLOCKADE OF RUSSIAN NAVAL VESSELS’ ACCESS TO THE MEDITERRANEAN, RUSSIA’S BLACK SEA FLEET COMPLETELY CUT OFF

user posted image

QUOTE
Turkey has begun a de facto blockade of Russian naval vessels,  preventing transit through the Dardanelles and the Strait of Bosporus, between the Black Sea and Mediterranean.

According to the AIS tracking system for the movement of maritime vessels, only Turkish vessels are moving along the Bosphorus, and in the Dardanelles there is no movement of any shipping at all.

user posted image

QUOTE
At the same time, both from the Black Sea, and from the Mediterranean Sea, there is a small cluster of ships under the Russian flag, just sitting and waiting. The image below shows the situation with the ships using the GPS transponder onboard each vessel:

In addition, shipping inside the Black Sea from Novorossiisk and Sevastopol in the direction of the Bosphorus, no Russian vessels are moving. This indirectly confirms the a CNN statement that Turkey may have blocked the movement of Russian ships on the Dardanelles and the Strait of Bosporus.

There is a Treaty specifically covering the use of these waterways by nations of the world.  That Treaty is the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits.

It is a 1936 agreement that gives Turkey control over the Bosporus Straits and the Dardanelles and regulates the transit of naval warships. The Convention gives Turkey full control over the Straits and guarantees the free passage of civilian vessels in peacetime. It restricts the passage of naval ships not belonging to Black Sea states. The terms of the convention have been the source of controversy over the years, most notably concerning the Soviet Union‘s military access to the Mediterranean Sea.

Singapore's New Fast Patrol Boat Is Practically a Submarine

QUOTE
Singapore's New Fast Patrol Boat Is Practically a Submarine

A new class of patrol boats from Singapore are about as stealthy as surface vessel can get. The stealthy, knife-like Specialized Marine Craft sits just seven feet above the waterline, uses water jets for propulsion, and mounts a heavy machine gun.

The Specialized Marine Craft  (SMC) is designed and built locally by Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd. The SMC is designed for naval base defense and force protection. Designed with stealth in mind, faceted surfaces cover the entire craft—even the bow-mounted machine gun.

SMC has a crew of four including the commander, coxswain, navigator, and weapons operator.

The 22 meter craft is powered by twin Hamilton waterjets at speeds "in excess of 30 knots", —which means the true speed is considerably higher. The boat has a draft of less than 4 feet, allowing it to work in shallow water close to shore.

SMC has advanced sensors for a small vessel, including a daylight camera, thermal imager, and radar. Sensor masts are retractable, further lowering the craft's radar signature. The boat is armed with a single gun, a remotely operated OTO Melara Hitrole .50 caliber machine gun housed in a stealthy turret.

The SMC has reportedly been operational since 2009, but was only introduced the public earlier this year. Singapore has a policy of being intentionally vague about its military capabilities.

Donald Trump Dares To Say That Turkey ‘Looks Like They’re On The Side Of ISIS’

user posted image

QUOTE
Donald Trump aligned himself with Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, saying that Turkey appears to be on the side of Islamic State.

“Turkey looks like they’re on the side of ISIS more or less based on the oil,” Trump said in an interview with Sirius XM’s “Breitbart News Daily” Tuesday morning, echoing comments from the Russian president on Monday.

I doubt that this will get much more coverage in the U.S. media, because the mainstream media is not really supposed to be talking about what Turkey is doing. It would be extremely embarrassing for the Obama administration to admit that they have known that ISIS was shipping hundreds of millions of dollars worth of stolen oil into Turkey and didn’t do anything to stop it.

Sadly, the charade probably would have gone on for much longer if Russia hadn’t started talking about this. Last month, Putin actually showed surveillance photographs of oil vehicles heading into and out of Turkey to fellow world leaders…

“I’ve shown our colleagues photos taken from space and from aircraft which clearly demonstrate the scale of the illegal trade in oil and petroleum products,” he said.

“The motorcade of refueling vehicles stretched for dozens of kilometers, so that from a height of 4,000 to 5,000 meters they stretch beyond the horizon,” Putin added, comparing the convoy to gas and oil pipeline systems.

Under the $4.6 billion national budget for 2016 approved by Cambodia’s National Assembly, defense spending was set at $383 million, more than a 17 percent increase from the 2015 figure and around 2 percent of GDP. Combined with the spending for internal security of $286.7 million, IHS Jane’s notes that the total defense and security allocation represents a year-on-year increase of 10 percent.

INTERNATIONAL MILITARY REVIEW – SYRIA, DEC. 2, 2015

The Syrian Army and the National Defense Forces, supported by Russian air strikes, managed to drive ISIS out of a long section of the strategic Aleppo-Raqqa highway in the northern part of Syria. According to the field reports, the Syrian troops’ offensive forced the terrorists to retreat and suffer large casualties in the fighting. The clashes followed the Syrian Arab Army’s last week assault on the ISIS positions at the Siyasko Chemical Factory’s western and eastern perimeters. The Syrian Arab Army(SAA) is continuing to advance towards the Turkish border in northern Latakia. The pro-government forces capitalized the Russian air support freeing the villages of ‘Arafat, Rwaysat Al-Sheikhou and Katf Al-Salat captured by Al-Nusra militants three months ago. The goal of the military operation is to take control of the border with Turkey and to secure the Latakia-Idlib axis.

The SAA, Hezbollah and the National Defense Forces (NDF) are advancing in the Aleppo province after capturing the village of ‘Aqulah over the weekend. The Syrian forces launched an assault on the ISIS positions at the Rasm Al-‘Abid Grain Silos and reportedly killed about 15 militants and destroyed 3 armored vehicles. Following the clashes with ISIS, the SAA and its allies imposed full control over the Rasm Al-‘Abid Grain Silos expanding a buffer zone at the southern perimeter of the Kuweires Military Airport and the Aleppo-Raqqa Highway.

Russia is also reportedly preparing to deploy fixed-wing aircraft and about 1,000 troops to the government-controlled Shayrat Airbase in Homs Province. According to some reports, the force of guards and military engineers has already been deployed there. If it’s true, this step will significantly help to the Syrian forces’ ongoing offensive to recapture the ISIS-controlled city of Palmyra.

SouthFront: Analysis & Intelligence remembers France agreed to coordinate airstrikes with Russia against ISIS and share information on the disposition of armed groups in Syria. On December 1, the German cabinet backed plans for military support in the fight against ISIS militants in Syria. Tornado reconnaissance aircraft, a naval frigate and a 1,200-strong force will be sent to the region under the proposals.

Germany has an agreement with France to share information on the disposition of armed groups in Syria. Thus, Russia-France-Germany trilateral cooperation in the intelligence sharing on the Syrian crisis could be described as existent.

Wishful Thinking: New Turkish EW System Hardly a Threat to S-400

user posted image

According to the newspaper, the system, called Koral and manufactured by the Turkish corporation ASELSAN, is an analogue of the Russian Krasukha EW system and is meant to counter the Russian S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile deployed at the Hmeymim airbase in Syria.

However, Vladimir Mikheev, an advisor to the first deputy CEO of KRET — the largest radio-electronic holding and top manufacturer of electronic warfare equipment in Russia – remained skeptical about Koral’s ability to defeat S-400.

"Koral is a ground-based EW system, and in order to effectively counter surface-to-air missiles, especially the kind of missiles that the S-400 uses – missiles that are specifically designed to withstand enemy electronic countermeasures – you need air-based EW systems," Mikheev told media. "You need the analogues of our Rychag or Khibiny systems, and Turkey has nothing of that kind. Obviously, the US has such systems, but it doesn’t export that kind of equipment even to its NATO allies."

Mikheev also remarked that it would be imprudent to underestimate the Turkish EW equipment designers, though much of the Koral’s capabilities remain unknown as it was only presented to the public this year.

Last week President Vladimir Putin said that Russia might utilize electronic warfare systems to ensure the safety of its aircraft in Syria following the downing of a Su-24 bomber by Turkish forces.

Check Out The Crowded Hangar Bay Aboard The Carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower

user posted image

QUOTE
Carrier Air Wing Three deployed aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is made up of about 70 aircraft, which require many hours of maintenance per flight hour flown. When the fixes or scheduled inspection are not superficial, the aircraft is brought down to the carrier’s hangar deck. Even though this is a cavernous space, filling it with dinosaur sized aircraft gets tight real quick.

Packed hangar bays were even more common during the Cold War, when up to 90 aircraft were carried on Nimitz Class carriers during deployments. Making things even more challenging was the fact that many more types of aircraft made up a typical super-carrier air wing than what the Navy fields today. The smaller Midway Class carriers had it even worse.

Even with less aircraft than in the past to service, as deployments draw on, space can be at a premium in the hangar bay. Check out this pic of the USS Ronald Reagan during a deployment.

Aleppo Governorate:

Perhaps the most important development to take place in the Aleppo Governorate during the month of November was the lifting of the Kuweires Military Airport’s two year long siege that was imposed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).

In southern Aleppo, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with Hezbollah, Harakat Al-Nujaba (Iraqi paramilitary), and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – captured the imperative towns of Tal Al-‘Eiss and Al-Hadher in a matter of 24 hours after a violent battle with Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki.

The month of November was bad for both the Islamist rebels and ISIS as they conceded several villages and large swathes of territory to the Syrian Arab Army.

Damascus Governorate:

No significant changes.

Dara’a Governorate:

Syrian Arab Army captures several blocks inside of the Dara’a Al-Balad District, while also capturing Busra Square near Dara’a Mahata.

Deir Ezzor Governorate:

No significant changes.

Al-Hasakah Governorate:

The predominately Kurdish “People’s Protection Units” (YPG) – in coordination with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) – captured the strategic city of Al-Hawl from ISIS in the Al-Hasakah Governorate’s eastern countryside.

Hama Governorate:

Jund Al-Aqsa captures the strategic town of Morek from the Syrian Arab Army’s 87th Brigade.

Homs Governorate:

Syrian Arab Army recaptures Maheen, Al-Bayarat, Al-Dawa, and the Palmyra Quarries from ISIS – 4km away from the ancient city of Palmyra.

Idlib Governorate:

No significant changes.

Latakia Governorate:

Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – capture the strategic villages of Deir Hanna and Ghammam, along with several hilltops in Jabal Al-Turkmen and Jabal Al-Akrad.

Britain bombs Syria: Tornado jets use precision warheads to carry out airstrikes on ISIS strongholds - just 57 minutes after MPs vote

QUOTE
British fighter jets have returned from their first airstikes against the ISIS in the terror group's Syria stronghold.

The first two Tornado jets deployed - which were sent into action from RAF Akrotiri, in Cyprus, just 57 minutes after MPs voted in favour of military action - are understood to have hit six targets an ISIS-controlled oil field in the east of the country.

When the aircraft returned to the base they were each missing their three precision-guided Paveway bombs, according to reports.  A further two Tornados took off from the base hours later, armed with the same warheads. Details of their intended target are expected to emerge later today.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed in the early hours of Thursday that the sorties have now returned from the 'first offensive operation over Syria and have conducted strikes'.

Last night, David Cameron boasted Britain is 'safer' after the House of Commons backed his proposal to extend military action in Syria by 397 votes to 223 - a majority of 174.
