PLA armored company on routine training exercise ambushed by two 'enemy' attack helicopters, resulting in 80% losses

user posted image

During a recent routine training exercise with the Nanjing military district armored brigades, a few commanders decided to sneak in a surprise element to the exercise: An ambush by two attack helicopters armed with 'anti-tank weapons' on an armored company.

The armored company was reported to have reacted poorly to the surprise helicopter attacks, with conflicting and confusing orders given resulting in reported 80% loss for the armored company. Out of a typical PLA armored company of 14 tanks, this would amount to about 11 or 12 tanks lost to the attack helicopters. The outcome of the botched exercise was claimed to have caused an 'uproar' at Brigade command.

The U.S. Army’s Foreign Military Studies Office took note of the exercise in its monthly journal OE Watch. “It was … apparent that commanders were not staying abreast of recent changes in warfare,” the journal stated.

According to the journal, the 'enemy' ambush was sprung after "When they exploited the victory and staged attacks on “remnant enemies,” two “enemy” helicopter gunships suddenly appeared and fired a number of anti-tank missiles. Facing the abrupt counter-attacks from the opponent, the Fourth Company was knocked off stride and forced into a messy condition. Multiple tanks were hit, releasing red smoke. The battle damage rate of the tanks reached 80 percent."

Probably assumed the day was just like any other monthly training exercise. Show up, shoot some stuff and go back to barracks. Shows the suspect quality of the training in the PLA actually.

Lockheed Martin Unveils New Amphibious Combat Vehicle for US Navy

user posted image

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — A new Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) produced for the US Navy was revealed at a trade show in the state of Virginia, defense contractor Lockheed Martin said in statement on Tuesday.

"The armored, eight-wheel-drive vehicle is designed to transport up to 13 Marines, transition seamlessly between land and water, and provide high levels of blast protection," Lockheed Martin stated.

Tests conducted on the vehicle have shown that in the event the ACV traveled over an Improvised Explosive Devices and lost a wheel, it would still be able to drive and escape the blast zone.

"It’s going to be more lethal, it’s going to be faster and our troops inside are going to be better protected," US Marine Corps Capabilities Development Directorate Director William Mullen said.

The US Marine Corps established the ACV program to replace its aging fleet of Amphibious Assault Vehicles, which have been in service since the 1970s.

Well I have to go onsite to see how the project on going.
As for what industry, I would say something to do with infrastructure development and yes the company I work does involves in defense but that not the core business anymore.

Russia has significantly boosted its support for Syrian president Bashar Assad in recent weeks, shipping some 2,000 military personnel and materiel, including powerful tanks, to the war-wracked country. More than 250,000 people have been killed in Syria over the course of the four-and-a-half-year-long civil war.

It's no secret actually. Many military "exercise" of many nations were scripted by the field commanders. It's more a theatrical performance rather than a training. This way they can write a favorable performance report to the HQ and avoid reprimand. It also serve as a kinda "show of force" for propaganda purpose. Most countries that aren't under threat of war usually tolerate this practice. The fact that China military done this is worrying though. It mean's they started to take the training seriously. The same thing happen in Egypt before their surprise attack on Israel during 1972 war.

Maybe starting to employ real-world scenarios in training rather than stupid propaganda-based training where they inflict 125% casualties on the enemy? laugh.gif
