Quick question, same merchant, different bank CC used, will the MCC be the same for each bank?

Not "same merchant" but Same card machine / payment channel.
A merchant may have different card machines or payment channels, a MCC is assigned by respective service provider ("Acquirer").
eg Shopeepay, served by at least 2 banks ("Acquirer), Maybank (ShopeePay Top Up) and Public Bank (Shopeepay Msia), you can't select the payment channel.
Your card issuers (different bank CCs) can't choose or modify the MCC, the data is from the "Acquirer".
eg a particular Guardian store (not all Guardian outlets) in my area, it had 2 card machines, from CIMB (MCC - Pharmacy) and Hong Leong Bank (MCC - Groceries). if I swipe any CC at CIMB card machine -> Pharmacy MCC; If I swipe any CC at HLB card machine -> Groceries MCC.

Thanks for the explanation. So each bank will receive the same MCC number, but it's up to the bank to decide if it's eligible for a particular campaign ya.

Hey guys! Are alcohol outlets the same merchant code as well as grocery stores of 5411?

Such As Hanks from Jaya Grocer (sells wine, whiskey, beer etc etc..)

What about wine stores such as wine merchant and so forth..

does JG's Hank's have separate counter/terminal for payment? if yes, probably their MCC is not 5411 (grocery) and likely to be using 5921.

same like Ikea. their main counters are using MCC 5712. ikea restaurant is using MCC 5812. ikea snack counter is using MCC 5499.

Thank you for sharing your finding. This transaction should be eligible for online cashback for PB QM, and PB VS.


I am so used to the convenience of using BigPay Prepaid MasterCard, without having to worry about MCCs.


However, since we no longer get online cashback for reloading BigPay with PB credit cards, I have to directly use PB QM for online transactions, and need to be very careful to ensure that the online transactions (that I want to perform) are not excluded by PB, for online cashback.

Online is Mode of Payment, not MCC.

Ok ok, but is iPay88 has its own MCC or it's up to the merchants? From the replies back in 2020 seems that it's depending on the merchants right?

Ipay88 is just a service provider helping bank to serve the merchants. The merchant should be assigned the MCCs (can be more than 1 MCC as the merchant may have different kind of businesses), but each transaction will carry 1 MCC only.
