I heard foreign parties bid more than Tenaga for Edra Global Energy assets.

Qatar’s Nebras Power QSC even considering to JV bid with China General Nuclear Power Corp.  nod.gif

Frankly, I would prefer that 1MDB offloads this asset to a foreign body, not to our TNB. Divesting 'back' to our own TNB may invite suspicions from external parties that this could be another left pocket to right pocket type of financial 'trick', which, well,....could be so ?

If suspicions arise, then the RM can never strengthen.

Wat is the indicative returns pa?
*
I'll just quote for Maybank Sgp,... one-month, 10K USD till 99.99K USD yields 0.1000% per annum. Minimum 100K USD yields 0.1500% per annum.

https://sslsecure.maybank.com.sg/cgi-bin/mb...te.jsp#iSAVvytd

If you're keeping in Msia, my previous experiences tell me the rates are better at Public Bank. Don't know now,...

but got one problem. foreign parties can own 49% only.. if they managed to get some "special permission" from gomen to own more, then good leh  nod.gif
*
Problem then... no way for a 49% holding to be able to cover the debts owed by 1MDB to the lenders,.... Still 1MDB may need to look for a local purchaser.

Good evening to all.

I was thinking of doing the above earlier, until the risk factors of the ASX Funds were unearthed. So, I decided to sell half of my ASX holdings and kept my foreign currencies overseas.

Well,... investing overseas is not all a bed of roses too. First REIT is a very good example. I used to say : 'never wrong with First REIT',... because I have done ALL the homework, and I know all the internal information with the managers. But who could have ever guessed that since the REIT is so good, the Indon Gov't might want to take it back home.

SREITs have their risks too. When the SP is not good, it gets delisted (Saizen REIT). When the SP is very healthy, it get 'SHIFTED'. rclxub.gif

Now have to start looking for another vehicle again to put my funds into.

Neither. I will convert to SGD and transfer to Singapore and put in SGX when those bank stock/telco/reits fall further  tongue.gif
*
I will convert one-third into the SGD and invest into the SGX and into the other new vehicle.

I will convert another third into the USD and invest into USD-denominated High-Yield Bonds Funds with the underlyings of US-based companies.

I will convert the last third into the Euros and invest into Euro-denominated High-Yield Bonds Funds with the underlyings of Europe-based companies.

All these using RM50k ?  shocking.gif

Not in an absolute sense, of course,... but ratio-wise in larger amounts,... Will not qualify for best rates if converting only RM17K each into the SGD, USD and Euro....

Looks to me like the windows for buying foreign currencies are always very small. The last time I had a chance to plough-in was during the weekend immediately after the budget ann't.. I managed to catch the SGD and the USD. SGD - recalled caught around 3.02,...

After that, don't seemed to be able to catch anymore...

If auntie backs down from rate hike messages, then the RM will strengthen a bit. If oil price swings-up a bit, RM will strengthen.

If any 1MDB asset is divested at a good price, the RM will strengthen a bit.

Yes, Sgd is one of most stable currency, but it gives almost no interest throughout.

I converted to SGD at about (about 2.50) on 2008 years ago, the interest rate was so low across, basically earn less than 2% over the 7 years period.

Today it becomes 3.05 + 2% = 3.11 worth

compared to 2.50 of RM that placed with average 3.x%  now compounded (total up about 23%) now roughly worth 3.08.

I merely gain much 0.03 by holding Sgd, over the 7 years period, unless one just converted last year at about 2.6~2.7 time, then different story.
*
Hi Cherroy,... with the impending rate hikes from the US, loan rates are going-up in the republic. I see that these hiking loan rates are slowly translating into increasing FD rates too. By the time when Ms Yellen truely hikes the Fed rate, I suspect the MAS will encourage higher FD rates across the board in the Sgp Banks.

Agree. I remember a few months back in my reply to you about USD/AUD/GBP/SGD which is better, I said I would rather put my investment funds in SGD on Singapore soil. But if only have the choice of AUD vs RM over long term, I would choose AUD
*
Wow,... so many are confident abt the republic (me included, I believed I was one of the first to signal out in this forum of the everlasting strength of the SGD throughout the years). rclxms.gif

However, as in everything, will Sgp ever fall due to any reason,... and the SGD depreciates badly ?

so, better take the other side for next 6 months. tongue.gif

Perhaps we should be talking in numerical terms. Even if the RM should strengthen a bit,... I don't carry too much confidence that it will drop bck to 3.8. What we can hope for is the occasional downspikes in the USDMYR forus to buy-in more of the foreign currencies.

And in the longer run,... I, for one, will be hoping for the MYR to weaken against the SGD and the USD, of course.... otherwise, ha,... we have wasted all our time and braincells doing all these overseas investments and what nought,...

It would be better for us to start pulling strings to invest into ASX,...

Yeah,... perhaps, in the recent general election, I was watching it closely... similar instincts, I suppose. I was even there to watch it close enough.

I shared a joke with the voters - in the Sgp election, when a bus ferrying voters approaches, there is no problem. But in MY, if a bus is seen ferrying voters approaches, people will start to threaten the voters from disembarking from the bus.... biggrin.gif

The Sgp voters did not understand my joke. sad.gif
