this thread does not seem very active at the moment sad.gif , but I thought I would say Hi anyway smile.gif. I am a fancy rat owner and breeder from Australia and am interested in learning about how people in other parts of the world view rats as pets and what types (colours and coats etc) you have in your country? Hope some of you who love these adorable pets see this and want to share your knowledge smile.gif

Which part of Australia? We're planning to get a pet rat this weekend or next, but most of the pet stores in melbourne doesn't have them in the color that i want (greyish or cream hooded, preferably female). I'm not sure if getting just one is alright? I've owned hamsters and guinea pigs before but usually in pairs, not for breeding usually same sex. My lone GP (the partner died 3 years ago) is still alive, going to be 5 this year smile.gif But her cage is in the living room, so she's got company and worried she might not get along if I get another GP.

Anyhow, how many rats do you have, pictures? smile.gif

Yeah unfortunately most people here does not take rats kindly, probably due to the perception of it being associated with sewer rats.
There are more mice than fancy rats being sold, but most of the mice are for feeders. cry.gif

I'm looking forward to adopt some rats once i get my own place.

But i will only adopt rats that are going to be abandoned or going to become feeder, that the owner do not want them anymore.
I help poor things.

I will never pay for a rat, just because it has special colors, etc.

I had 5 pet rats when I was in US. Incredible little critters. Where can I find one in Malaysia? Would really love to have one again!

Hi everyone, I have a pair of lovely girls for adoption, one is a hairless and one is a black berkshire. They are free and come with the tank, bottle, food bowl and litter tray. More info is available in the adoption thread. Thanks.
