Yeap, he's taking a sister pair. Born on 9 August 08. Their other sister, Carey, paraded around the tank with her head in a toilet roll, wearing it like a hat! lol We thought her head was stuck, but then she stopped and the toilet roll fell off. Then she stuck her head in again and walked around with it on purpose! Silly girl.

I'm so happy today. I put Milo and Tickle on my bed to play as usual and Milo keeps licking my palm and fingers, face and lips. So cute of her. I read about rats grinding their teeth when they are happy. I wander if licking is a way of kissing to them just like dogs. =P

I just adopted a rat from mailboris. He has a wound on his back and a lot of pink colour mites crawling on his body. I bathe him with shampoo and wash his cage with soap already. But the mites still stay on him. Should I keep bathing him everyday till the mites are gone or there are any medicines/ soaps that can cure the mite problem? He also has injured fingers and a broken nail.
He was a lab rat and kinda afraid of human touch but very tame and easy to handle. I am just worry for his health condition now. Looks like he has been suffering for quite a long time. =( I found Invermectin (works as dewormer for horses and dogs) or Revolution or selamectin will help. Anyone knows where can I get these? @nnie, try to give the poor rat a warm 30 minutes dettol bath, alternatively, you may want to see a vet.

U can try getting pyrethrin based shampoo. Available under the brand 'TROY'. I still have some but the shampoo is like, almost 2 years old. If you can't find this brand, I can pass you some. Bathe once, then repeat about 2 weeks later.

I've got myself some Ivermectin from the vet. I read that it's the best cure for any lice, fleas, mites problem. Need to repeat the medication after 7-10 days for about 3 months to completely solve the problem. Just hope it works. Thanks for your help guys.

All you need is love and patients. I believe it is the same for any animals. But rats are really smart. They can get to know you pretty fast. If they love you, they'll love you forever, if they hate you, they'll hate you forever. O.oQUOTE(RyoKenzaki @ Jan 13 2009, 04:19 AM) Gosh.... At 1st im going2 adopt tat rat from him... Yea.. the previous owner actually told me that the lice was on him for some time and its not harmful. But it just concerns me because the wound behind his head looks like a big ulcer to me and it looks so painful. His ear and feet are also pale-ish so I kinda suspect the lice is blood-sucking-lice. Well.. after curing the lice problem then I'll have no worries letting him hang out near my girls (Tickle and Milo). Next time he cure ady you can come over to visit him also. ^^Luckily din get it, else i dunno wat to do and maybe cant even see any problem on it Glad tat u have it, hope it can be cured pretty soon This post has been edited by @nnie: Jan 13 2009, 11:56 AM |

QUOTE(RyoKenzaki @ Jan 13 2009, 12:03 PM) Haha.. I'll bring all my rats along. Haha.. Don't forget my 2 girls are also very interesting. You must meet them. QUOTE(kitchai1 @ Jan 13 2009, 12:16 PM) Price varies from cheap to expensive because in the rats' world, they also has this thing call grade. Good grade meaning comes from good family background (good food, good handling, good living environment... ) and not in breed (meaning the rat will be more healthy). Lower grade ones usually can get them as 'feeder rats' that people breed for feeding reptile (low maintenance rats, live cheap, eat cheap, in breed and stuff). I belief there are breeders in this thread that can give you more professional opinion on this topic. |

Is it a genetic thing that my ex-lab rat (male) is actually big size compared to my ex-feeder rats (female)?? Or it's because of the food they eat?? (the lab rat used to take rats' pallet for staple). The male one seems a little bigger and muscular.
