could be the beneficial bacteria has established itself, just guessing ^^

I'm thinking so too. But now a new problem, whatever killed the algae, is killing the plants too. My water cabbage's roots are becoming very weak and rot easily. sweat.gif

Not sure if Im doing it right.

When first bought:

The thing is really fragile, and the roots are all tangling and breaks off easily. So i put in one big clump.

After 3 weeks:

The big clump is fairing better than the ones in small clusters. Once the tupperware fills in more, then i'll move them to a bigger tupperware.

aiyo, what happened? i think likely to be jumped out and picked away by the lizard after died maybe. cos this happened to me before...
i see, how big is your tank ar? in order for your fish to grow big and fast and healthily, you gotta separate them, to be honest. or otherwise, you gotta put in a lot of plants for the fry to hide. and you must feed a bit more so that the food can reach bottom for the fry.
*
im still keeping them in the vase/pond outside. i've added another plant, so total 2 submerged plants and 1 sponge filter. at least some place to hide.

im feeding twice daily, usually will feed and once the adults seem satisfied, i will put a bit more for the fry. morning n evening. at night i dont want to feed, bcos they all sleep very early. laugh.gif

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ May 27 2015, 11:36 AM)
How's your gender ratio?

I gave 20-30 fries to colleagues across quite a few spawns but those that I kept turned out to be almost entirely female.

I kept only 6 fries across generations and it turned out only one of them is male.  rclxub.gif
*
the fry, so far like 100% female. at first i thought just because they are still young so all the anal fins look the same. but week after week, no sign of males. sweat.gif

My pond is quite stable at the moment. Algae is under control. I bought the prawns for my aquarium, but the tank still cycling so the shrimps were dying, so i transfer to pond temporarily. sweat.gif

Pump running. Waiting for the plants to root a bit before i transfer back the prawns, otherwise the plants uproot easily when they swim around. sweat.gif

Might just start with a bare tank.If i have an air pump(2ft tank), what do i need to do to maintain the tank?
*
If u're going with just an air pump, you might pair it with a sponge filter. It will be great to establish the good bacteria. smile.gif

Do you have the setup currently? (Air pump + sponge filter)
Not very sure how it works though. Can i have a look of it please? smile.gif
*
Yup smile.gif But using it for my small pond outside. I dont have the latest pics, this is how it looked like a while back:

user posted image

Now I've removed the water cabbage, and thrown in some anacharis. I dont have ammonia/nitrate/nitrite test kit, but Im fairly sure the water parameters are acceptable. My shrimp is relaxed, all my fishes are happy, and only one die occasionally due to fighting with other fishes (a bit overstocked).

Downside is that it looks ugly, otherwise I would've put it in my aquarium as well. sweat.gif
