I dont even care to use AV. It slows me down, and in the case of McAfee as proven in our work environment, has been causing problems as much as overzealous policeman... The only reason I run windows defender is solely because it has already been built in and doesnt seem to slow me down or cause unnecessary problems.

I won't recommend no AV at all to common folks even if my track record is so shiny even without AV. The reason is that common folks lacks common sense, trust me it isnt only in computing. And apparently the best defender for your PC is your own common sense.

"Someone who is very innocent share a porn video on his timeline? I must click them!"
"oh, this news' headline is rape story. Must read!"
"I must not watch indescent thing on the web. Oh look, naked women on my timeline"
"oh, i got an english text who doesn't even know there are other languages out there other than his own language. I must click the link!"

Install the best AV in these people's computer, they might even disable the AV out of their curiosity lacking common sense after being blocked by the AV. But at least they have been warned by their respective AV

I do agree the bold part, but then most of the time, some people require to transfer certain files from different sources frequently.

Previously was using deep freeze to protect my shop's computers as our computers opened to public for printing and stuff, but sometimes, its very inconvenient to have deep freeze stayed on 24/7 as everything will reset to previous point including the saved files, you may activate thaw mode but they require a restart and its extremely inconvenient.

Until then only i decided to give paid antivirus a try (previously failed with avira free version, only then move to use deep freeze after several reformat), bought avira/kaspersky, both failed as well, system corrupted even i running scan before i open the files from pendrive (and they claiming the paid version were running real time scanning) doh.gif

then, one of my friend recommend me using avast FREE antivirus, well it works like a charm, managed to block virus before it infected my computer, until now, it's been 4 years+ since i last reformat my office pc thumbup.gif

If everyone plays their role in using the common sense, this won't even be an issue... Because there is no infection to begin with...

well some of the virus are there to steal your personal info, key logging to steal your account password and stuff, spamming contacts for free advertising, and there're lots more purpose why someone out there creating these viruses and spreading them intentionally to gain profit and for the other motive. icon_rolleyes.gif

BitDefender is better than Avast. For those who are using Windows Defender, best if you at least upgrade to something else. Even most free AV is better than Windows Defender.

i have more than one av engines. i just don't run them for default real-time protection, because i find wd interferes the least when i work.

for home users, yes i think it's better to use other free av for real-time protection. (i don't really call it free, since subscribing to these free av usually means you contributing by submissions of so-called suspected files, urls, etc. to them. 'm just saying)

People don't really care about that. As long as you don't need to pay for it and it works, that is good enough. I've been using BitDefender free for almost 3 years now. Suprisingly good for a free product. It only inteferes when I'm running cracked codes. Other than that it will just sit at the background silently.

Haha true not many care about privacy smile.gif yes i use bitdefender free on one machine. It's not bad in terms of system resources.

I thought all av will interfere when you use cracks, but that's not my main concern.

Some will AV allow crack code if it doesn't have any code deemed malicious. Mostly for application that doesn't use online features. Plus, if we use cracked code, we should know and understand the risk ourself.

a better way to avoid all risks related to such codes/apps imo is just don't use them. tbh there are plenty of free alternatives out there.

actually u can search, there got many thread about this. again, there is no best av and single solution that can cover or protect u from all of the threat. what the most important is always becareful when u stay online and remembered keep your os and program updated.

if u dont like to spend extra cash to buy av, the build in windows defender should be enough for your usage.

I am using AVAST! and Windows Firewall.
No interest to switch. As long as it is no disturb and everthing can run is enough already.
