I've been using Avast Free Antivirus for a long long time. After switching to Windows 10, I am thinking of switching to another antivirus.
I currently have Bitdefender Antivirus Free installed. It is very different to Avast. There are no settings or options to configure. It has a very simple interface.
I am worried that Bitdefender will not provide the same level of protection as Avast provided me.
What antivirus do you use?

I'm relying 100% on Windows Defender. Refuse to install unnecessary junk into my PC.
However, if you're a user that download a lot of illegal software, by all means get a AV. Legal and freeware don't come with viruses from trusted source.

Screw AV. U don't need any. AV only slows down the PC. Only paranoid people use it. I never used any AV for almost 15 years already.

Disable unwanted system services - plenty online to read about it. Simple as that.

Built in AV is good enough. Just have to be more Internet Savvy when on WWW then you won't get any unnecessary virus or malware.

I'm using Norton 360, been a Norton user for very long time now, probably more than 10 years.
When I first fresh installed Win10 I did consider of using just the Windows Defender after seeing many people said it is good enough. But I've already bought the Norton 360 2 years package for 3 users previously, might as well give it a try.
I don't feel any slower performance to be honest, after installing and using the Norton 360.

QUOTE(biloxee @ Aug 28 2015, 10:50 AM) So many of you don't use AV. Interesting. at the bare minimum, imo there should be at least one running in background. i run windows defender + emet mainly. all these av + anti-exploits are not bullet proof. the more sustainable measure is still to educate yourself as a computer user to be more cautious.

I think more than 5 years I didn't use AV, like someone said it slows PC down a lot, as long as don't simply visit or click strange links or URL then I think will be fine, so far nothing strange happened on my PC.

QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ Aug 28 2015, 01:47 PM) similar setup. if people want to use bare minimum i would recommend mbam with nod32. for firewall, most people use router is good enough, but i also prefer to also use windows firewall control which basically is an interface to manage the default windows firewall, but much easily. for web browsing i use gorhill's umatrix and ublock. with canary 64bit chrome :} other security tools i use are malwarebytes anti exploit, emet, zemana anti logger, hostsman. every now and then i'll scan with mbam, nod32, hitman. I don't normally use web/email protection. Just use an AV to scan files off and on when I grab something to test...

Windefender. DO remember to keep installing windows update since it's crucial to protecting your PC as these updates include latest definitions and fix holes in your OS.
