Hmm, CIMB is very famous with launching capital guaranteed funds.
So, nothing new there, because most of them are the same wink.gif

Usually your capital will be only protected or guaranteed when you have reached the maturity period if I'm not mistaken.

Double-digit returns from latest fund

KUALA LUMPUR: AmInvestment Bank Bhd expects its first precious metals fund, AmPrecious Metals, to give double-digit returns to unitholders within a year, Ng Chze How retail funds director of AmInvestment Services Bhd, the fund's manager said.

"Based on research, gold is expected to hit US$850 to US$1,000 per ounce over the next one year and equity investing doubles the leverage to investing in metals, so that's why we are optimistic of double-digit returns from this fund," he said after the fund's launch yesterday.

AmPrecious Metals is an Islamic global equity growth fund. It seeks to achieve capital appreciation through a target fund that invests in a portfolio of global syariah-compliant equity and equity-related securities of companies engaged in activities related to gold, silver, platinum or other precious metals.

Ng said that 70% of the fund would be invested in equity and equity-related securities of companies engaged in activities related to gold.

Being a feeder fund, AmPrecious Metals will invest a minimum 95% of its net asset value in DWS Noor Precious Metals Securities Fund while maintaining up to 5% in liquid assets.

The target fund is managed by DWS Investment S.A. DWS is the largest mutual fund company in Germany and one of top 10 players globally with assets of more than US$761bil under management as at June 30.

"The recently launched DWS Noor Precious Metals Securities Fund registered 24% return over 10 months, which is very encouraging," Ng said.

AmInvestment managing director T.C. Kok said: "Gold and precious metals provide a unique alternative opportunity for investors to diversify their portfolio.

"With the current demand for gold outstripping supply and rising gold prices over the years, this investment offers an unlimited potential upside and good returns for unitholders of the fund."

AmPrecious Metals has an authorised fund size of 250 million RM1 units. The minimum investment amount is RM1,000 while the minimum additional investment is RM500.

Ng said AmInvestment planned to launch about five new products and relaunch the AmOasis Global Islamic Equity fund by the end of its current financial year to March 31.

Correct. However, you can exit anytime. Just have to find out what is the penalty rate. If early redemption penalty is 2% of NAV and if the fund earns 20% in 1 year, then it is worth to exit.

AmPrecious Metals fund sounds interesting? The minimum investment is more affordable compared to CIMB product offerings.

Well, personally I don't believe in these articles being published by the fund managers themselves.
I would rather take my cue from third parties when choosing my funds, like Lipper and S&P.
They have shown their professionalism in the unit trust industry.

What about equity?
Personally, I can't find any other long term investment that is better than funds and equity.

As far as I know, ING did offer its REIT fund during beginning of the year.
I think the fund has been closed now because it was sold out.
Other REITs you can get from the open market.

As far as I concerned, there is no pure REIT fund, mostly are property equities fund, although they did invest in Reit, but still portion invest in property stocks including the ING Real Estate, large portion into Reit, while still certain portion in property related stocks. Almost all fund houses got global or regional property or real estate fund, but most of them are having tought time recently due to subprime mess and housing problem in US

Recently the Public Mutual fund drop dramatically for most of the fund and unstable, anyone know what is happening? is it the US government loan issue? I think it not just mutual fund, shares price and currency also drop, isn't it?

I am interested in mutual fund but the current situation make me feel worry, any opinion about the fund or advise give to me?
