Move back la.

980Ti still stand strong

Once you go SSD, there's no way back.
Yeah, that's how you outmuscle people in stocks distribution.

Supplier knows you got money and can pay up, of course supply you

And no, I want Red camp to always offer value for $$ while green can push for whatever they want.

So when I can no longer afford the green, at least the red would be a close 2nd.
Should have. They can stock plenty of 980Ti, so pretty sure they can get their hands on few dells la  whistling.gif

yealo... resale value also quite high.... but red camp good performance and cheap, value for money nod.gif think wanna build itx form... but kinda wasting laugh.gif

Any suggestion then?

Or, if I just replace my current laptop's HDD with SSD, is it better?
i7-720QM
4GB ram

hmm.gif

yeah.. thats much better.. change the hdd to ssd.... and increase the ram capacity...perhaps using 16gb ram if possible (8gb x 2) or (4gb x 2) = 8gb ram shud be ok...

if you think ssd storage is kinda low... dats not a prob... i can buy hdd caddy... and swap it with cd rom compartment... then put hdd there.. use ssd as primary slot and OS install on it... it will boost ur pc performance

Hey guys, I was previously waiting for the new zenbook UX305 with skylake, but now, my old PC is giving me some problems, may end up buy a laptop sooner then later.

the asus k401lb way too heavy

I also look at a 14" fhd lenovo, but its heavy at 2.1kg, it has a dedicated graphics tho, and 2 year international warranty. and ram,ssd upgrade friendly

RM 1,799.00
LENOVO Z40-70 6166 14” LAPTOP/ NOTEBOOK i5-4210 Nvidia820
http://www.lelong.com.my/lenovo-z40-70-616...5-11-Sale-P.htm
---------------------
Now the acer v3 371 is a very interesting product, looks very good on paper.
cheap
1.5kg
fhd
It even has extra memory slots so u can just add 4gb to make it total of 8bg.

RM 2,067.00
[04/11] Acer Aspire V3-371-52KL *i5/4G/500+8G/Win8.1* (13” FHD)
http://www.lelong.com.my/04-11-acer-aspire...7-01-Sale-I.htm

RM 2,353.20
[04/11] Acer Aspire V3-371-55UX *i5/4G/240G/Win8.1* (13' Black)
http://www.lelong.com.my/04-11-acer-aspire...7-01-Sale-I.htm
extended warranty is really really cheap RM69 for 3 years, its a no brainier upgrade.

Then googled found lots of horrible review, 2 main issues are
poor wifi
poor trackpad
acer can repair it but some people report the problem reoccurred

The US version is only hd not fhd and older cpu
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V3-371-5...p/dp/B00KCT48GQ

after reading all the review i was going to give this laptop a pass, but i then figured acer must of fix all these issues by now as the US version sells the i5-gen4,

so i googled i5-gen5
not sold in US but in europe

https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...2s2&prev=search

i also read all the review and now feel much better.
more happy customers, much few reports of wifi/trackpad issues, there are some but much fewer,
they report of fhd screen issue, but i believe its jsut a case of settings, where the zoom and auto scale thing, which can be fixed in graphics settings.

i am not too worried about the trackpad as i always use mouse.
in either case not sure if acer malaysia will fix the issues for wifi and trackpad.

THEN i came across the skylake version.
acer v3 372, besides the obvious changes, it now has more ports, 2x usb2, 1x usb3, 1x usb3.1 (usb C). the older model only has 2 usb ports and they are both located on the right side of the laptop, worse position.

I see the new version is on acer singapore
http://www.acer.com.sg/ac/en/SG/content/model/NX.G7BSG.005
it even says its IPS panel which is great. but it cost a bomb, at SG1100, might as well wait for the new skylake zenbook at that price.

for thouse intersted in opening up v3 371
http://www.myfixguide.com/manual/wp-conten...sassembly-3.jpg
2x ram slots
notice the m.2 ssd has a special caddy in the hard drive bay.
so i gess its possible to buy the cheaper version with hdd and put a 2.5" ssd inside, but not the other way round,

I may buy the cheaper one and put a good ssd, samsung 850 eve 240gb inside and use the 500gb as an external.
but i dont like the colour white tho.
black is the more expensive ssd version.

decision decisions

its a really bad time to buy a laptop now, skylake is just arriving and Christmas sales are usually when we see lots of new laptops configurations been sold.

when u buy a laptop overseas lots of sellers usually give a 30day money back guaranty if you are not satisfied, lots of people got full refund for the acer v3 371 with trackpad/wifi issues.

does Malaysia has such a thing? money back satisfied guaranty??
*
QUOTE(Leon be here now @ Nov 6 2015, 11:30 PM)
from what i gather from this forum
asus has very bad aftersales service
dell very good

thats a pity i always prefer asus laptops in the same price range.
my thinking is they are a big time manufacture of various electornic products not dell/acer/hp they oem their products.

what about after sales services for the below?
acer
lenovo
hp
*
this is the first time i read good research from other forumer... laugh.gif always checking... well.. indeed, yes.. the wifi was giving significant issue and the trackpad too (some customer not that bother about this issue thou)
the new version lunch in europe.. but not sure how in US... bcoz of different market.. and for asia market, they also have different model and product... but i hope, they will ship the new version to south east asia... even they ship it here... i dont think it will end up in malaysia market... usually until singapore market only...

30day money back guaranty... this.. sweat.gif MIGHT NEVER happen in malaysia... except on certain brand i guess... its has different policy...

regarding for warranty.. not from this forum.. its actually the facts that being compile for many years and complaints from other user.. so, to conclude, asus malaysia really have bad service after sales. compare to dell... but for other region, asus seems good.... other country such as taiwan, korea, japan, hk have very good service on notebook after sales.. same as goes to dell malaysia... in malaysia..they offer the best service.. but in europe, dell service is not that good.. i think 1 of the forumer did inform this matter last time regarding dell service in europe.

so, if u gonna buy notebook in malaysia... gonna think about warranty (either globally warranty type or local warranty). HP and Acer malaysia... more or less the same.... but acer seems pretty improve for past few years...

notebook lineup seems pretty nice.. good on paper too.. not much review due to less acer user in malaysia.. went to everywhere, most notebook out there usually asus brand... sweat.gif

and, not all model will be available in malaysia market... the choice is very few only.. no matter wat brand out there...

Hi, I just wanted to get some recommendations smile.gif

1. Preferred Brand: Asus or anything.
2. Budget: < RM3,200
3. Usage:
- Uni: I'm going to be a game development student next year, if that helps. Not sure exactly what programs we'll be using but hopefully my (new) laptop can handle it!
- Gaming: I'm currently playing a lot of Dragon Age: Inquisition and I know I'm going be playing Fallout 4 nonstop too. Hoping to buy GTA V and The Witcher 3 soon and am looking forward to Rise of the Tomb Raider and Dishonored 2. With that in mind, I'm not necessarily looking for something that'll run those games in Ultra settings with 60 fps, but I just want something that'll run them smoothly. I don't mind medium settings and as long as I get to play without lag, I'm good thumbup.gif
- Misc: I also use a lot of Photoshop.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size:
- More or less a 15"
- 1 TB storage
- Something with better specs than the laptop I have now. (Currently have Intel Core i5, Nvidia GeForce 820m, 4gb RAM)

That's all, really. Thank you! biggrin.gif
*
i think u gonna need notebook at least specs gtx950m... for that budget... pretty hard... the most u can get is asus ROG but need increase budget a bit rm300+

ASUS ZenBook UX305 Ultrabook 6th-gen Intel Skylake how available in Singapore
SG1300 = RM4000 - core m skylake version mad.gif
US750 = RM3300 - i5 haswell version !!!!!!!!!

what a big difference, I think i am not going to wait for zenbook skylake in Malaysia, unless one of my relatives goes to US/MY for a holiday soonish.

Now that acer V3 371 price is looking very attractive compared to the zenbooks, will decide by monday.

Remember this aritcle
Xiaomi to Release First Laptop in 2016
http://www.lowyat.net/2015/75794/confirmed...laptop-in-2016/

Most probably going to be very good value, keeping my eye on this one.
other rumers say
i5-i7 skylake
13.3" FHD or QHD screen
8GB ram
SSD
light weight,
Cheap
OS = linux,

Just the type of ultrabook i am after.

my current shortlist
acer V3 371
Lenovo z40-70 cheap, heavy but still deciding
Zenbook too expensive
HP Envy 13 too expensive
Dell XPS too expensive

Xiaomi laptop hell yah, but not sure if I can wait till next year and order from taobao.
*
yeah.. pretty interesting with xiaomi... soo... keep your hype ya.... cz... wait for the review.. u gonna buy in sgd or usd? laugh.gif but its pretty cheaper if buying in usd than sgd... and lots of better lineup for ultrabook available in eu market.. even singapore is same region of SEA... but malaysia always late to release the new skylake product....

until mid dec 2015.. then gonna know full skylake lineup and its review

I was going to buy the Acer V3 371, I rang them up today, i told them zenbook - skylake launch in SG, they said will come to MY soon, like 2-3 weeks. he also advise me to wait if no hurry, and the price is cheaper then SG.

how that price is cheaper than SG when MY currency is damn bad laugh.gif anyway, thats a good news... So, microsoft store malaysia confirm it by coming 2-3 weeks? so its mean, the lineup available in dec thn.... thumbup.gif

laptops are generally cheaper in MY compared to SG with exchange rate taken into account, he got may buyers from SG, just send to MY address.

Microsoft store link i provided is only in US, the MY version dont sell laptops

I had the chance to buy the zenbook at RM2600 (8bg, 258ssd, Core M-5Y10) few months ago, in gold or black colour. but didnt really need a new laptop yet, so i choose to wait for the skylake version.
then lately my pc is giving me some issues, the zenbook cost increase to RM2800 and (8bg, 258ssd, Core M-5Y10) version all sold out.
hope the new skylake version cost less then RM2900, otherwise i may get the acer v3 371 instead.

Check this for GPU comparisons

Geforce GTX950m is a lot better than Geforce 930m or 920m

And there is a "X" in between GT & 950m

http://www.geforce.com/hardware

there is no GT 950m exists as I search through nvidia official US site.

Just a rule of thumb, the GTX cards (GTX 950m, GTX 960m etc) are meant for heavy gaming and will perform much better compared to the non GTX series (920m, 940m etc).

However, that doesnt mean u cant run games smoothly on the non GTX series. You might have to lower some settings here and there as well as the resolution for a smooth gameplay notworthy.gif

Generally, the higher the GPU number, the better it is. Though some will perform almost the same to an older card. (GTX 950 to the GTX 850m are almost identical only difference being the GTX 950m is clocked a bit higher).
*
its not fix actually.. just sometimes.. nvdia also release certain card series for example gt555m.... gtx950m and gtx960m performance is a lot different.. because mostly 950m is ddr3 type while 960m is ddr5 type.. so.. gtx950m can categories as gt950m... its a medium range... gtx960m is high entry type...

QUOTE(myway1985 @ Nov 12 2015, 09:13 PM)
I think u must tell them the first digit is series or architecture number

2nd digit 2,3,4 indicate entry level
5,6 medium
7,8 high end
9, or something else like titan those r extreme.. although never seen 1 Nvidia x90m b4..

Only gtx 690 nia... same grade as titan black..

most simple way is this.. nod.gif

Hi dudes & dudettes,

It's been a very long time since i last bought a laptop. My Toshiba lasted me more then 7 years. Now it's totally dead so I need a recommendation for a new laptop, something which can last coz I don't see the need to update to the latest laptop/hardware every 2-3 years. I don't know a good & reliable brand, model, etc since it's been a very long time since I last bought 1. I don't see any Toshiba or Dell in Kuching anymore (don't know what happened to those brands) so here's the specs that I need :

Screen size : 15" / 15.6"
Processor : i7 U or HQ (dual core or quad core)
Graphics : NVIDIA GT/GTX
RAM : 4/8gb
Storage : HDD or SDD (amount doesn't matter)
Usage : Work (excel, words, outlook, powerpoint, etc), Graphics (Photoshop, Illustrator), Audio (live recording, p.a system tuning, mixing, etc), gaming (during offshore).
Price range : 3.5K to 4.5K

Thanks dudes & dudettes in advance.

Cheers.
