UX305FA is the model but it comes in different configurations, RAM, CPU, SSD, and colour.

Now the acer v3 371 is a very interesting product, looks very good on paper.

extended warranty is really really cheap RM69 for 3 years, its a no brainier upgrade.

Then googled found lots of horrible review, 2 main issues are
poor wifi
poor trackpad
acer can repair it but some people report the problem reoccurred

after reading all the review i was going to give this laptop a pass, but i then figured acer must of fix all these issues by now as the US version sells the i5-gen4,

i also read all the review and now feel much better.
more happy customers, much few reports of wifi/trackpad issues, there are some but much fewer,
they report of fhd screen issue, but i believe its jsut a case of settings, where the zoom and auto scale thing, which can be fixed in graphics settings.

i am not too worried about the trackpad as i always use mouse.
in either case not sure if acer malaysia will fix the issues for wifi and trackpad.

THEN i came across the skylake version.
acer v3 372, besides the obvious changes, it now has more ports, 2x usb2, 1x usb3, 1x usb3.1 (usb C). the older model only has 2 usb ports and they are both located on the right side of the laptop, worse position.

so i gess its possible to buy the cheaper version with hdd and put a 2.5" ssd inside, but not the other way round,

I may buy the cheaper one and put a good ssd, samsung 850 eve 240gb inside and use the 500gb as an external.
but i dont like the colour white tho.
black is the more expensive ssd version.

its a really bad time to buy a laptop now, skylake is just arriving and Christmas sales are usually when we see lots of new laptops configurations been sold.

when u buy a laptop overseas lots of sellers usually give a 30day money back guaranty if you are not satisfied, lots of people got full refund for the acer v3 371 with trackpad/wifi issues.

does Malaysia has such a thing? money back satisfied guaranty??

thats a pity i always prefer asus laptops in the same price range.

3. Usage:
- Uni: I'm going to be a game development student next year, if that helps. Not sure exactly what programs we'll be using but hopefully my (new) laptop can handle it!
- Gaming: I'm currently playing a lot of Dragon Age: Inquisition and I know I'm going be playing Fallout 4 nonstop too. Hoping to buy GTA V and The Witcher 3 soon and am looking forward to Rise of the Tomb Raider and Dishonored 2. With that in mind, I'm not necessarily looking for something that'll run those games in Ultra settings with 60 fps, but I just want something that'll run them smoothly. I don't mind medium settings and as long as I get to play without lag, I'm good
- Misc: I also use a lot of Photoshop.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size:
- More or less a 15"
- 1 TB storage
- Something with better specs than the laptop I have now. (Currently have Intel Core i5, Nvidia GeForce 820m, 4gb RAM)

what a big difference, I think i am not going to wait for zenbook skylake in Malaysia, unless one of my relatives goes to US/MY for a holiday soonish.

Now that acer V3 371 price is looking very attractive compared to the zenbooks, will decide by monday.

I was going to buy the Acer V3 371, I rang them up today, i told them zenbook - skylake launch in SG, they said will come to MY soon, like 2-3 weeks. he also advise me to wait if no hurry, and the price is cheaper then SG.

The shop owner said if the new zenbook skylake already launch in SG, it will be MY soon (around 2-3 weeks lag)
laptops are generally cheaper in MY compared to SG with exchange rate taken into account, he got may buyers from SG, just send to MY address.

I had the chance to buy the zenbook at RM2600 (8bg, 258ssd, Core M-5Y10) few months ago, in gold or black colour. but didnt really need a new laptop yet, so i choose to wait for the skylake version.
then lately my pc is giving me some issues, the zenbook cost increase to RM2800 and (8bg, 258ssd, Core M-5Y10) version all sold out.
hope the new skylake version cost less then RM2900, otherwise i may get the acer v3 371 instead.

Does the brand really matter for the RAM? Some people recommend to use the same brand of ram for upgrade.   

i mean do the market have the external SSD drive? coz the current laptop is only 250 gb SSD. im thinking get another extenal SSD drive then can install more appliation on the exnternal ssd

I think of buying acer esperia since it's the cheapest. Asus K501LX is a little too expensive for me since I'm a student. I do gaming everyday but only league of legends and dota2. Does nvidia 920m and 950m makes a big difference?

Ram should be mostly lifetime warranty
But some of the DVD-Rom connectors are running on SATA2 so speed maybe not as fast as advertised for the SSD.
Get the Asus.

there is no GT 950m exists as I search through nvidia official US site.

Just a rule of thumb, the GTX cards (GTX 950m, GTX 960m etc) are meant for heavy gaming and will perform much better compared to the non GTX series (920m, 940m etc).

However, that doesnt mean u cant run games smoothly on the non GTX series. You might have to lower some settings here and there as well as the resolution for a smooth gameplay

Generally, the higher the GPU number, the better it is. Though some will perform almost the same to an older card. (GTX 950 to the GTX 850m are almost identical only difference being the GTX 950m is clocked a bit higher).

I think u must tell them the first digit is series or architecture number

2nd digit 2,3,4 indicate entry level
5,6 medium
7,8 high end
9, or something else like titan those r extreme.. although never seen 1 Nvidia x90m b4..

It's been a very long time since i last bought a laptop. My Toshiba lasted me more then 7 years. Now it's totally dead so I need a recommendation for a new laptop, something which can last coz I don't see the need to update to the latest laptop/hardware every 2-3 years.
