actually the current MIC ones i think come with the stickers again.
you can even see the same stickers on the fake gibsons made in the epiphone factories in China.

btw sean, how come your epi LP classic had stickers on the pickups?
the classic has open coils, normally you dont find stickers on those.
*
yea its open coils n it came with stickers
beats me =/

how to check the back of the pickups??

@noisetrigger
haha

gives me more reason to change the pickups =p

1. you take a screwdriver.
2. you screw open those 4 screws holding the pickup ring to the body.
3. then you see with your own eyes what it says under it.

that one also must explain?
wtf?

This is no "best" string..... what kind of player is he? And is this for an Acoustic or an Electric? There are so many variables.... too many to list down.

Back to the guitar pickups..... would suggest something Bright for the Les Paul special.... maybe Seymour live wires or something like that.

He is having a bachelor in music producing. Its a semi-acoustic guitar ( if I am not mistaken ). Which string brand should I go for and please guide on the pricing. Last time I used to help him to replace the broken string but though the owner of the shop claimed its a good quality one, the string got rusty very fast.

If he's a music student, then he should know what string HE likes. Again, strings are very subjective to the playing style and user's preference.

Case in point, my GHS Zakk Wylde Boomers. To me, I find this the best string for my guitar because the thickness adds to the tone. But some people finds the string too thick and actually hinders their playing.

You can try Dean Markley Blue Steel or D'Addario Bronze or Phosphor Bronze (depending on how heavy he likes the gauge).

But its still really a preference thing, so he might like them or not. But if you're looking for a starting point, those are pretty much highly regarded and used.

Hope this helps.

I think if it's a semi-acoustic. I assume it's an acoustic with a pickup.....
For me, I would recommend Ernie Ball's acoustic slinky. Some people dislike the Slinkies, but I find 'em great for beginners because of it's "slinkiness"

Strings being stell will rust no matter what, usually within three days due to exposure to moisture. Even the best of strings do that eventually. Just buy strings around the range of RM20 to RM30++ and they should be pretty decent.

After all, there are only like 4 strings manufacturer in the world. Most of the strings came from these same four factories.

Dude, for vintage punk sound you gotta get p90's guitars. I love the Gibson that Carl from Libertines use, now that's punk. ah.. Libertines... where av they gone to.. sad.gif

I think the Les Paul Junior with a p90 pickup should do it! Nyum!!! same as that Greenday guy wossisname use. With punk its all about simplicity and some low slung, downstroking action!!!

edit: here's a model i found on musician's friend

Would recommend the Les Paul Special II and then save up cash for some P-90 pickups like Gizmoduck suggested.......

Or if you already have a cash..... go for a Gibson Les Paul Junior.... yes. GIBSON..... It's about 750USD.......... half the price of a full on Les Paul Standard.

Wow.. Gibson are really squeezing us eh? USD 750!! Gawdang you Nashville factory workers!!!

Special II is a great option, but the problem is you won't hav the cavity to fit in a P90, which means u gona av o get the P-91s i.e. headaches.

I checked out Musicianfrens (i no fren2 wit them tho) and the Epi Les Paul jr. costs USD99.99! not bad eh? i think the atual price is around USD199.99 though but whatever, it still wont be over RM1000 which is within ur budget innit? plus u still get the option to upgrade to a Gibson's p90 when you finally get your EPF money thumbup.gif

Shops that carry EPIPHONES??? Check the shop thread lorrrrrr..

Woh Fatt, Yamaha Subang Parade, that shop in MidValley can take direct orders from the epi supplier. Just flip thru the epi catalogue and start pointing haha

He is in US now and will be back but not so soon. I did not tell him that the string has broken.

RM20-RM30+ hmm....by the way, though you said there's only 4 strings manufacturers but the thing is there's a lots of things come from China, same applies to guitar string.

I need to finalize by this friday. I hope I could buy it at Rhapsody at Midvalley or the guitar shop at the floor same with GSC.

Please advise on the place to buy, which brand to buy and how much the budget. Thanks!

if hes real used to the guitar, he would know diffrent strings are on it already from how it sounds.

Again.... this is just MY suggestion......
You can get ESP and D'Daddario strings from The Guitar Collection in Midvalley (the one above GSC). dunno if they would change your strings...... if they do, I think they will have to charge you.

Ernie Ball slinkies can be bought from either that music shop in The Curve (top floor, near the pet shop) or Bentleys which is downtown, opposite KL plaza...... again..... don't know if they change the strings (they should), but they would take time to change them, so you might have to leave your guitar there then.

Again, prices could range from RM20 right up to RM40 depending on the brand... and about re-stringing...... MOST shops should be able to do it for you..... just leave it there, buy the strings, take a walk around the complex then come back and collect it.

EDIT: Are you changing just ONE string???? If you are, I think it's best if you buy a whole set and change them all..... your BF will find out anyway if he's a decent guitarist.
Waaaaaah. so lucky.... GF also change his guitar strings.......
