so im finally going to have a month break as a transition between jobs and want to realise one of my goal to get certified in open water. was reading up about doing it in phuket during dec which is when i will be having my break and cost including flight, accommodation and the actual course would be about 2.5k with flight tix the biggest chunk as its high season there. anywhere else i can do for a lower price since redang and tioman is closed during dec...

okla narrowed down to 2 choices
koh lipe
phuket

both have about the same price of diving courses but cheaper to get to koh lipe
penang ----(van)-> hatyai reach at 7am local time
hatyai ----(van)-> pak bara eta 10am local time
pak bara ---(boat)-> koh lipe at 1130am local time  or 3pm local time

from hatyai to pak bara only about 600 baht from penang to hatya about 40 bucks? so thats about 100 per way about 200 to and fro

flight from penang to phuket about 400 bucks and takes about the same time as well due to transit in kl

Is Tioman open at end of December? Somehow did a search and saw Monkeyflo mentioned Tioman is open that time.

Since monies is not an issue to you. You can consider to come over to Kalimantan Timur, Derawan Island, it shared the same ocean with Semporna, the sea is very clear and you can easily catch a sea-turtle, manta and etc...
July during Hari Raya, my costs for all food and accommodations and diving costs fees is about RM1600... Of coz you need to top up your air tickets...

Orang kaya apanya...mental terjejas...ahahahaha...ada sapa2 nak datang kk diving???
