hi guys,Im going to take my PADI Open water certification at Tioman during the end of March. The dive center is offering some package which include mask, snorkel and fins. But im planning to get only the mask and snorkel. does the purge valve system on snorkels make a big difference ? or is okay to go with basic snorkel without purge valve system ?
Honestly I would suggest you use a rented one 1st until you are sure you want to continue diving. I mean why spend a few hundred if your not gonna use it after your course.
Anyways just get a normal cheap snorkel would do. Most of us here don't even keep our snorkel on unless we are doing some courses. That being said, snorkel have some benefits such as reducing air consumption on water surface if it is choppy.
How's the diving in redang? I gotten my OW license last July and plan to go April for fun dives as friends going there for OW and AOW one shot.
I only plan go for fun dives and get more dives under my belt before going AOW. Any reasonable priced accommodations there and how's the diving experience there?
Hope sifu here can advise
Dive sites there are still a few that is quite nice like Che Isa or Terumbu Kili but cant compare with overseas. There are lots of different accommodation to choose from in Redang so just surf their sites and get the price you are comfortable with.
Guys, plan to take PADI AOW at perhentian. Any dive shop to recommend ??
Thanks
There are many different dive shops in Perhentian. I would say all more or less are about the same. There was one that I quite like but never been is Bubbles if not mistaken. Price higher but have marine conservation efforts.
Hi guys, just wanted to ask if anyone has gone on a diving trip without a buddy? What was your experience like?
Tried before going alone for a dive trip. I just buddied and make friends with the divers there and buddy them. If not I buddy the DM and we just enjoy the dive as if he is a diver also.
Thank for the quick reply guys. I actually have not been diving for about 3 years even though I have an Open Water license already. Any advice on whether to buy equipment as I am thinking of going regularly now? Also, how do I complete the refresher course?
Equipment I think you should take your time. No need to rush into it. Buy a few cheaper items like mask and so on than maybe when you are 100% sure you wanna do it more often than only go for equipment. Refresher course you could do it on an island or at a dive center near here. price is about the same but I would rather do it at an island and do it as a shore dive. Shore is always better than pool.
Doing it in the sea sounds like a better plan. So I just call up any DC here and pay them first for the dive package?
Last but not least, how to join diving trips? I'm planning to go around the period from 23-31 March, if anyone is going too.
Depends. Some places want you to pay full, some only need to pay 50%. just email them to inquire. For diving trips you can email the resort/dive center personally or join a trip organized by a dive shop here. Where you planning to go?
If i could stay longer, i definitely would My only chance now is to negotiate with my dive shop to not do any dive on last day of my open water course.
4d3n is already tight. I don't think they can reduce it unless they reduce on the quality of teaching.
