I now also considering getting a D40. Since i love taking pics of cars in motorshows ands scenery pics, will a D40 suits for me? Pls advise.

Anyway with just a basic D40 using stock lens (sorry ya, i been too get used with automotive terms ), will it be an improvement compared to compact cameras like ixus? I using ixus currently, but i found its limitation that limits my photography.

Pretty soon i might get the D40. I looking for the best price at the upcoming PC Fair. Now at the Nikon shop at Amcorp, pricing for the D40 is quite attractive at RM2250 with a bag, tripod, kit lense and its default set.

Do u guys think its a good deal?

Later during PC fair 30++ HSLs with D40 running arounds and snapping pics of models & promoters.

Ya, i tried the D80 kit lense on the Nikon booth and i got the poison as well. Also the cheapest D40 sold in pc fair is at 2090. Not sure what is on their package.

Today i saw a few fellas with D40 at metropolian college auto festival. I assuming are these guys from this thread as well? Well i went the from 6-8pm only.

If u looking for Nikon cameras, the D40/40X series will be the best for those who wanted to start serious photography. These models are entry level models for those upgrading from pns/prosumer cams. Still, it is highly rated even by profesionals although it is just an entry level DSLR.

I cant comment much on D50 (replaced by D40) and 350 as i just started serious photography, but judging that you want a entry/beginner level DSLR, for Nikon the D40 will be the excellent choice.

By average the d40x cost around 2.8-3k with kit lens.

I think for d40/d40x owners these lens should be under ur consideration

1. 55-200mm VR (for zoom lens in case u wanted to keep the kit lens)
2. 50mm 1.8D prime lens (for potrait)

n if money no object, perhaps this is the best overall lens, but expensive.
3. 18-200mm VR.

For speedlight i think the SB400 will do enough. It is designed to complement the D40, as a part of the range of compact DSLR.
