Aiyoo dont judge the skill of the photographer by looking at the gears only lah. It all depending on someone's skill. U will never know someone with a pns DC will pwn someone with a Pro DSLR.

55-200 VR for 830 at J one is seriously a good deal. I will look for him for my next targeted lens, the 50mm F1.8!

QUOTE(buffalowings @ Jun 8 2007, 03:22 PM) oh.....hmm...because i was at bangkok and i was trying to take picture of the whole grand palace.....i couldnt even at 18mm Unless if u opt for super wide lens like 14mm then maybe u can take wider shots. Btw i did took the grand palace using only 18mm. at maximum distance (ie entrance) can only take half....hmmm maybe need to stand real real far.... |

Just bought my 50mm 1.8D potrait lens from Uncle Jason at his shop at Amcorp mall. Seriously a good fella and kind enough to teach me how to use the lens.

I been using my D40 for 4 months and i love every bits of it, although there are significant weakness esp on no AF for AF lens and limited focus points compared to canon. Just felt in love with the beautiful colours which is the trademark of Nikon cams!
I felt the cam with the kit lens is one of the best combination ever, lightweight and very easy to handle. Not to mention i still satisfied with alot of pics taken using the kit lens. As many reviews says this is one of the best kit lens for a DSLR. I just bought a 55-200VR and i found it that its a little less comfortable to handle, maybe coz my hands shakes easily. Surprisingly my hands didnt shake much with the 18-55 lens. QUOTE(maRx @ Aug 12 2007, 07:40 PM) When nikon gonna come out with AF-S 50mm f/1.8 I praying hard for such lens to come out too. Sad case, such a good and cheap lens.. but have to manual focus on D40. Added on August 12, 2007, 8:32 pm QUOTE(fresh_ideas @ Aug 12 2007, 07:57 PM) i heard that ppl saying nikon d40 and d40x have no auto focus, but why when i ask the shop ppl who sell it they say have? D40 & D40x does have auto focus but its only for AF-S lens, while you have to use manual focus for the older AF lens. This post has been edited by travis_ckf: Aug 12 2007, 08:32 PM |

zio:
If u only want only single lens all the time, definery its advisble to go for the 18-200VR. Although expensive, that perhaps one of the best value lens and the quality is still great too. Unles budget permits, then 55-200 is fine, provided if u dont mind swapping lens. Kit lens 18-55 + 55-200 VR is a good combination though. |

QUOTE(ebentan @ Aug 15 2007, 08:34 PM) Hi, I'm a newbie. Just got my d40x this weekend as a birthday present (I have the best wife in the world). I was at the shop to pick it my gift because my wife doesn't like to bargain (haha). Don't know whether I got a good deal or not (and don't want to know, because I'll only kick myself if I...err I mean wifey... overpaid). Suffice it to say that I got the kit, bag, UV filter, 2 x 2GB SD cards and the SB400 at less that what Fotokem is charging for the kit alone. That a good deal, i hope u get it for less than 3k. OK, enough of that. My question for you guys is this: that same shop is selling the 55-200 VR lens for RM780. Is that a good deal? I read at another forum that most shops in KL are selling at for RM850. The 55-200VR for 780 is bargain of the century as usually shops selling at 820-1000. I bought mine at 840 at J-One. Added on August 15, 2007, 10:47 pm QUOTE(xandman @ Aug 15 2007, 10:04 PM) It is a VR lens i think. Ya if its not VR than run away, its a confirmed con case possible. QUOTE(FESEM @ Aug 28 2007, 08:05 PM) Is it good to invest sb-600 instead of sb-400 on my D40? SB400 cost less than 500, while average for SB600 is around 800++. If u have the money, go for the SB 600 coz it has more features and can bounce further than the SB400.how much is sb-600. i think sb-400 is less than RM400. Already fedup on taking shot in indoor. the flash is too direct, totally can not preserve the atmosphere. |

To answer victor3010's question:
I believe to start serious photography for 3k, a D40 + 55-200VR lens will be a great start as the D40 is a suitable entry level DSLR to learn photography. Learn all the essentials of photography and master it using an entry lvl cam before considering upgrading to a better and higher end DSLR, provided u have the $$$. Remember, be prepare to burn more $$$ once u in the Dark, ops i mean.....wonderful world of photography! |

70-300 w/o VR is useless. For zoom lens as advised by many get the 55-200VR at best. The 70-300 may be abit oversized for a small body DSLR like a d40.

Boeing Sg wang price isnt that attractive, I suggest u go to J-one at amcorp mall as well, as u can negotiate for a cheaper price. Also, that shop owner is a very nice man.

I do not recommend going for a 18-135 lens as well, as it doesnt have VR which is a useful tool for zoom lens. If u in a budget, consider the 55-200VR or if u have deeper pockets, go for the 18-200VR. That one is the best overall lens for the d40.
