yup, definitely ok for me too...
anybody know any alternate lens for d40? sigma? tokina?
*
If you choose Nikkor, you have a larger selection:

18-55 (D40, D50 kit)
18-70 (D70(s) kit)
18-135 (D80 kit)
18-200 VR - released with the D200, but not in a kit
12-24
17-55
55-200

70-300 VR
24-85
17-35
28-70
24-120 VR
70-200 VR
200-400 VR
105 VR
200 VR
300 VR
400
500
600

With the D40, you can forget about AF with ALL Tokina and Tamron lenses at this time.

However with Sigma, you can AF with these HSM lenses:
12-24, 17-35, 10-20, 50-150, 30

Just pray hard that Nikon, Tamron, Tokina and Sigma releases motorized versions of all their lenses soon.

I'm thinking of the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 myself. blush.gif

1st, make sure your juniors are serious, cuz there's one gal in my class who bought a 350d particularly just for the photography subject and now she dont even use it at all

check some of the prices here
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/260397
note: prices may vary from time to time, though the E-500 is 2500+ in there, outside you'll find its 3099 for the twin lens kit. D70s, go to fotokem in midvalley or 1u. Last time i heard they offered me 3100, body and lens. dont know about the d50 though, i'd go for the d70s, the d40 is not bad, cheap. But alot of flaws biggrin.gif

For those who are used to other SLR's, the lack of a top LCD will be a major issue, it really makes adjusting settings much faster.

However, for those who are moving up to SLR's from compacts and bridge cams, they won't miss the top LCD as they would be more accustomed to using the main LCD for settings.

To each, his own.

Any reports on how the D40 performs as compared to the other SLRs in terms of power consumption? Since its using a lower capacity power source and a huge LCD for everything, there has to be some trade-off in duration.

the latest issue of Digital Camera made a test and gave a 80% verdict. Not bad for a "bridge/slr" smile.gif

Do they have to buy DSLRs for that subject? Why not just bridge or P&S cameras with manual controls? Or even a film SLR?

nope ...we dun actually need to have one also ..film slr also can use...the lecturer only wanna see the picture...so most of them suck at using manual ..so buying this sort of camera...just to see the tiny lcd after taking picture...
i had heard them taking out off a roll of film only 3-5 picture are ok ...others are overexposed or underexposed...
even using D70s or so ...still wanna use auto doh.gif
how to learn la like that...girls...

here's what i like to know

what do you mean by flaws? or are you just saying that the D40 is just lacking those better features found on D50 / D70? smile.gif

Verdict : Highly Recommended
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond40/

With their new D40, Nikon has proven that you can make an entry-level digital SLR without cutting a lot of corners. There's a lot to like about this camera, from its compact size to its performance to its photo quality. For those ready to step up to the D-SLR world, the D40 is a fabulous way to do it.
