I received a love letter from LHDN asking me to pay extra 1600 today. When I redo my calculations using my EA forms (from 2 companies since I jumped ship last year) in fact I over estimated my income by 9k.  Is it possible to request to see how they calculated?  Can't help but feel I am being cheated unless I see how they came to that figure.
*
Yes, call up the LHDN number, check your file location to meet up with the officer. Ask them to show how they calculate the extra 1600. This is your right. Your tax money is used by government to pay their salary.

As long as you have nothing to hide. Just be honest, in case you miscalculate or mis-claim some deductions. They may give leeway instead of penalty/fine. Learn from mistakes also.

I have a situation:

If I am employed by an overseas company (not registered in Malaysia) and working from home in malaysia, and the salary is TT into local M'sia bank biweekly basis

a) How do I fill up borang BE in this case, or should I change to Borang B?

b) Am I obligated to pay EPF?
*
I maybe wrong, but this is what I did previously:

a) Consider as self-employed, but no matter what, just fill up the total gross income into Penggajian column. Forgot I use BE/B, but no issue from LHDN.

b) Yes & No. Also depends on your contract / hiring with your overseas company. My arrangement is to submit my own EPF (both employee and employer) and claim the amount in next month from company using the EPF receipt.
e.g. If I'm being paid TT RM10k basic salary a month. I deduct 11% (employee) myself. Then I fork own own money first to pay 13% (employer). My first month income is 10k - 1.1 - 1.3 = 7.6k balance.
every subsequent month is 10k - 1.1 - 1.3 (current month) + 1.3 (claim for previous month) = 8.9k nett which is correct.
Total income is 10k + 1.3k = 11.3k wink.gif Of course, if you contract/package is nego to be EPF Employer inclusive, then is up to you.
If I don't claim Employer EPF, I will lose out 1.3k every month.

First month is difficult since need to fork out additional money, but after several months, the money keeps rolling.

If you pay EPF, you can get deductions from tax submission.

Now still doing this?  How many years already?
*
Now no more, did for 2 years in previous co. First time you need to go KWSP to register as self-contribution, not sure now can do it online or not.
Once end, also goto KWSP to inform them stop the self-contribution. I think not necessary, but better settle it, otherwise KWSP may look for you one day for non-submission since did not inform them.

Once a while, you may receive letter from BNM due to frequent incoming TT tongue.gif

Income tax, just submit as usual. Bear in mind, if you submit EPF, income tax must tally. Cannot run away. If you don't submit EPF, then is subject to you.

If your company already deduct your tax in their own overseas co, then check for double tax exemption, and you don't need to pay locally. Also, try nego with co to pay you in their own local currency if you open a bank account there. Then you need the hassle to transfer the money yourself and win/lose on currency conversion.

Ok..what if previous year above minimum amount and so filed tax return but no tax payable but this year rental income drop to below minimum account ( also no tax payable)...still need to file? will IRB ask why last year file but this year no file????
*
I'm going to repeat my advise to all again. For tax, there are two different thing that you need to be clear:

1) To file / declare income. As long as your income for the year is more than RM1 (yes, lebih atau sama dengan satu ringgit), you will need to prepare and submit your income. Submit does not mean you will get tax. If you fall below threshold, there is no tax at all.

However, it means "tak ada kerja, sendiri cari pasal" , but start off your income declaration on the right foot for your future. *

This declaration will be useful for your future loan applications, etc.

If you ask LHDN, family, friends, colleagues, forum, etc., some of them will give self contradictory advise, "tak payah lah if below XXX" or worse still, teach you to under declare or make false declaration or avoid or something hanky-panky.

2) Then only, if your declaration is above the threshold, you will need to do this step, pay income tax.

* There are two things in life you can't escape: death and taxes.
** Tax includes income tax, real-estate, etc. it will haunt your family members even after your death.

Just wondering, let's say after filing, PCB is insufficient and still need to pay RM3000 tax. Is it possible to split the tax payment 3x times into:
1) March MBB Amex RM1k
2) April MBB Amex RM1k
3) April MBB VS RM1k

Any issue ? Or the system not allow multiple payments ?
hmm.gif

Can.
But remember there's a 0.8% fee.
*
Yes, I guess you may remember I ask similiar question few weeks ago.

Initially thinking to top-up BigPay card 2-3 times over March and April using MBB FCB, then use BigPay to pay tax one time.
But now my MBB FCB 2.5k fully utilised for March, so have to change plan.
MBB Amex cannot use to top up BigPay sweat.gif
Hence my question above.
0.8% fee is still lower than cashback from Amex weekend 5% and FCB 2%

Wait ... MBB Amex pay income tax can earn weekend 5% ? hmm.gif

Dear tax gurus,

May i know which section should i claim tax relief for donation to charity/religious body and to Tabung Harapan in 2018?

THank you again smile.gif
*
Bear in mind, only for approved organisation only, which is normally written on the receipt. If donate to e.g. temple/church, even if they give receipt, but is not under approved organisation, then cannot claim deduction.

Hi,

I have a tax number. Due to income is not reach taxable level, will my housing loan (in future if I am going to apply) will be rejected or not getting a low interest rate since I annually only filed Null in my income tax?

I know banks are looking many factors when considering to approve or reject a loan application. However, I am looking a small point only.
*
Declare tax (filing) and paying tax is two different thing. Declaring doesn't mean you have to pay tax (or pay huge amount).

By declaring (even without pay tax), and cross check with EPF, then it shows your monthly consistent income.

Compare to someone who doesn't declare, but show got 20k/200k/2M in his account, it will be doubtful from the bank perspective whether the money (not income) is consistent monthly and legal or not, as there is no proper paper trail.

Hello sifu, I started my first job on last year Sep and leave my job on last month. So far haven't declared any tax file or create any tax account and I don't have my tax reference number. The amount of my annual income didn't exceed RM34000. Is that okay if I never do anything?

Applying for another job right now and I stumbled upon asking me to provide my tax reference number and only realised it. What should I do? Thanks !
*
It is okay if you don't do anything, for now ... there are many people who will tell you don't waste time to file income tax, etc.

My advise is, just file (or declare/submit) your income tax every year. Get your tax file number, etc.

Submission does not mean you will get taxed. At the end of the filing, it will still show taxable amount = zero.

However, with this filing, you can use it in your coming future to submit for house loan or car/motor loan or credit card, etc. Provided you know how to utilize the credit, rather than overwhelm by it.

There are two things in life you can't escape. Death and taxes.

your "Baki belum boleh di gunakan" still have value,....same as mine but hcfoo's one is "0"
thus I think by next week only can see the updated display, then hopefully another week can get cash refund
*
"Baki belum boleh di gunakan" is my PCB for Jan 2020 which can only use for 2021 submission. Feb 2020 PCB I think not in/consolidated yet.

0 = means hcfoo's company not yet pay to LHDN for Jan 2020 shakehead.gif but already deduct from salary/payslip.

No need. Not relevant. i.e. there is no income tax deduction for using EPF house withdrawal.
