In the EA form if your income total is RM88,888.68.
Do you fill up 88888 inside the e-BE form ? or 88889 ?
*
I always round up, even if it is xxx.x1
RM1 extra tax at max is only 30 cents. For whatever technical reason that LHDN fine you for under-declaring and all the extra work and time to settle this for 30 cents.

No sleepless nights.

Question

1. How to request for refund for excess payment year 2020.
2. Does retiree need to submit income tax even with no source of income
3. What happen to e lejar
*
1) If you do e-submission, it is automatic if you fill in your bank account number.
2) Yes, must submit annually. If confirm no more working, then close tax file at LHDN. Submit does not mean need to pay tax. e.g. Annual income RM1 must also submit.
3) still there (below image)

Even after we retire, but you earn rental nett income >RM34k a year, we still need to file our taxes, right?

https://www.imoney.my/articles/income-tax-g...RM3%2C000%20net.
*
Even if your rental nett income is RM1 per year, you still need to file (submit) your taxes every year. This is to get your annual tax filing in order.

Taxable or not, that is after submission, which in your example is not tax eligible.

So then a lot will question, if not taxable, why submit ? doh.gif

Hello. Need some advise and I hope this is the correct place to raise it.

I have been made redundant in my company and got a severance package. I was asked by my HR that i need to go lhdn to make a tax clearance before they release the final payment. Is this actually needed?

I don't understand why they can't just deduct as per normal.
*
I did post this before in Post #7841

Just to clarify is yours VSS/MSS ? If voluntary resign or termination is different case already.

Your HR should do all the paperwork, HR deal with LHDN, submit all the forms and get the clearance from LHDN.

You can't do any tax declaration for YA2023 yet.

The remaining work for you is to wait to get the EA form to submit tax in early 2024 for YA2023 for your income from Jan-Aug 2023 plus whatever new jobs you will work until 31-Dec-2023

I think the mod removed some discussion of tax unceremoniously in the other thread. So i continue here.

Once you have registered an account with LHDN, you need to declare even if not working.

But i have a question. If you reach 55 or 60, still need to declare? Sampai mati need to declare?
*
Short answer: Yes, need to declare every year, even if zero income, just put 0.

Long answer: No, except the final year mati no need declare cause not around anymore. tongue.gif

If you don't plan to work anymore, i.e. retire, then close your LHDN tax file.

Retire or cease of employment

Whoever you have left over, whether family members or lawyers/trustees that wants your inheritance.

If forever alone or pokai, no one will bother and whatever left over (if any) will goto unclaimed money act.

If close already, can open again? e.g. sudden appointment as board member or come back to life
*
I don't have an exact answer but I think it is always possible. e.g. a foreign worker/expat close tax file and leave the country. Sometime in future got another job here (assume still same passport number) which means definitely need to either open a new tax file/number or re-open the previous tax file.

Hence, normally LHDN will ask or check clearly if the person really wants to close the file or sometimes may not allow and just ask you to keep it as is.

Which then if you don't do yearly submission, althought non taxable, then they may fine you for non-submission doh.gif

e.g. if age 60+ ask to close, ok lah
if age 30/40 ask to close, they may ask you keep the file.
Unless got valid reason like emigration leaving the country forever/given up citizenship/some other valid reasons.

how do we fill in got sen behind? should we round it up?
*
It was discussed here few years ago. My recommendation is to err on the safe side and always round-up the taxable amount and round-down the deductions.

Although it never happen (yet), I don't want LHDN have any change to come to me because under-declare few cents.

25% tax on RM1 = 25 cents. Worth the good sleep I get.
