Okay, this is interesting.
Since editing Hawaii is BIOS possible now, i volt mod an MSI R9-390x Gaming BIOS to have higher min voltage which previously i have problem with random blackscreen on IDLE because the min voltage is too low for my chip too handle.

I ran Firestrike 3 times for each BIOS.

MSI 290x Gaming BIOS modded to have lower minimum voltage | Slight overclock to 1070/1375
Gpu Score=12855 | 68c Max temp | 1.2v Max voltage | 59c VRM1

MSI 390x Gaming BIOS modded to have higher minimum voltage | Slight overclock to 1070/1375
GPU Score=13190 | 65c Max temp | 1.25v Max voltage | 61c VRM1

Can anyone with 290x run Firestrike with 1070/1375 clock speed and post your GPU Score?
I can't seem to install 15.7 when using 390x BIOS, don't know if AMD silently blocked it so i use 15.200.40 beta driver.

The 390 series seem to have bigger voltage range compare to 290 series.

p/s: ignore my VRM2 temperature, it have a dud sensor.

My card with 15.7 driver get 12629 Graphics score with the clockspeed you asked.

I been tweaking my own vBIOS myself. Currently idle voltage is 887mV and 3D voltage is 1193mV (around 110xV when measured with GPU-Z running Metro 2033). I don't like using program to manipulate voltage and fanspeed. I want to boot up PC and straight play games tongue.gif
*
Thanks, maybe Win10 boosted my score a little.

I can't seem to tame this MSI 390x BIOS which is a shame because the memory timing is really good, the voltage spike up to 1.25v no matter what max voltage i put in DPM7.
Always get TDR when the clock fluctuates between IDLE-UVD or maybe this beta driver is the culprit or both.

How to edit the fan curve?

You can download HawaiiFanEditor made by DDSZ.

EDIT: If you didn't notice, TheStilt made some very interesting vBIOS for reference 290X with various clockspeed and voltage offset plus the tweak of his own. You can try it.
*
Yup, already tried that last week but the BIOS didn't work for me. GPU-Z show nothing and i can't install any driver. Similar thing happened when i tried XFX BIOS.

He specifically state that the BIOS is for Hawaii XT A0 (ASIC Rev. C9x) MLU Bios for MBA C67101xx board designs and have this logo near PCI-E connector.

Didn't bother to check mine. tongue.gif

Your link for the fan editor is broken btw but already got the file after a quick workaround. Thanks.

Fury Nano will be release next month, hopefully Fury production is in top gear already.
QUOTE
The product would be 19cm in length, offers 2x the perf of the 290X at half the power - it is now confirmed launching in August.

AMD confirmed this info during its quarter result conference call. It will be the 3rd product deriving from the Fiji range GPUs and follows a mITX form factor. The spec for this product have not been released just yet but expect, hoqwever the it'll be a cutdown Fiji GPU, the original design has  64 ROPs, 256 texture mapping units 64 GCN units with 4096 stream processors.

It's for cards with reference board right? Not reference card because i saw guys with Gigabyte Windforce and XFX DD successfully flashed their card although the latter is not stable.

I meant referenced board of course. All referenced cards & early revision of 290X Tri-X & MSI Gaming 290X are compatible with the modded BIOS. I don't know whether there's later revision but early XFX DD also use referenced board. Gigabyte Windforce was never use referenced board as far as I know. Later revision of these cards (Tri-X & MSI Gaming) no longer use referenced board & the "AMD" logo also missing on the board.
*
Ah, i see. No wonder it doesn't work for me although 290x Gaming review show ref. board design.

I have a question regarding these BIOSes thingy. I have never toy around with one before.

Is it correct for me to assume let's say, I can buy a powercolor R9 390 and flash the MSI R9 390 so that I can get the OC setting of the MSI card?
*
Yes, but not recommended to do so and AMD might lock modded BIOS again.

Hi all,

Just wanted to check if its ok to undervolt a R9 290 refrernce using another bios?
Anyone can explain bit on this?
*
It's better to use your own BIOS and mod it to have lower voltage but like Najmods posted, you better find your card limit first using software like MSI Afterburner.

Using leaked 15.200.1055 driver DLLs from the DLLs Database + Latest Intel Chipset, my system finally managed to broke 1M DrawCalls/Secs.

The best i could get previously was 950ST/900MT. Coming from Catalyst Omega 14.12 which i only get 650k for both ST & MT, the improvement is coming slowly... painfully slow. sweat.gif

Reviewer only reviewed first release/revision of the card. They don't review the later revision of the MSI Gaming card.

This is 2nd version of the msi 290x gaming card. As you can see it no longer use referenced board.

You can try take a peak through your card cooler if you can see the gold chokes.

Indeed, i can see the gold SSC.

Just got myself a Powercolor R9 390 after a few months of waiting. Couldn't justify more expensive GPU since I play almost exclusively on 1080p. And that will stay that way for now.

It's freaking huge!
*
Hope your PSU can handle it bro, nice card. Previous 290 PCS+ was a great card with a great cooler, shame early batches was plague with black screen issue which need a vBIOS update.

Guys, been wondering to ask, does the Radeon R9 200 series support DX12? Or is it upgrading time for all of us?
*
All GCN support DX12.

GCN 1.0 support DX12 with feature level 11_1 and GCN 1.1/1.2 support DX12 with feature level 12_0.

Yeah, you gonna miss Raster Order View (ROV) and Conservative Rasterization from feature level 12_1.

Not that big deal btw since only a very small percentage of DX12 cards support that feature, even current gen consoles didn't support it.

Only in synthetics benchmark bro, many games i played don't even utilize over 3 cores.
If you can try disable half of the modules if you board allow and overclock the hell out of the CPU.

The project cars wins 10 benchmark is outdated already.  tongue.gif

since they are testing is b4 15.7,

b4 15.7 the win8 Amd driver does not have cpu overhead optimization, but the win 10 beta has some optimization already. So obvious we see win10 is faster on project cars back then.

Now I hope to see win 10 vs win 8 CPU overhead bench base on the new 15.7. To see win 10 really make a huge diff or not. If u got powerful cpu, u might wanna down clock a bit to see the diff.  tongue.gif
*
Tried pCars, Win10 advantage is still there and quite significant.

Btw other games is nothing like this, they either marginally slower or marginally faster.

I guess Fiji really 'overclocked' to maximum for its current 'stock speed'.
No wonder AMD locks down the voltage to hide it.

Besides, why he used an old game like BF3?

Yeah, +96mv at 1200mhz looks great. Now what Fury X need is a proper driver.

It's TPU, they always use BF3 to measure overclocking performance.

hey, thanks for taking time to do benchmark. Appreciated it thumbup.gif notworthy.gif

btw what about futuremark draw call benchmark? Or any draw call benchmark on (win 8.1 + 15.7 vs win 10 + 15.7)

btw What CPU spec? what clock speed? if ur cpu too fast it might make other benchmark marginally diff only.

The goal here is to find whether is it worth to upgrade win10 immediately for AMD CPU optimization or wait 6 months later.  tongue.gif  (because new OS always got launch day bugs, I wanna avoid this mess)

Hmm....it is either Nvidia GTX970 3.5GB or AMD R9 390.

Dont get AMD 380. It is an old design without any support for better Powertune/ZeroCore and Variable Refresh Rate support.

380 based on latest GCN 1.2, newer than 390 which support 4K H264 recording and 4K VSR including improved tessellation and memory compression implementation.
