My tiny room will always be heated by my Sapphire R9 280X Vapor-X when I'm playing games with temps reaching 70+. Processor is i7 4790K with Scythe Ashura. Will an upgrade of gpu reduce the amount of heat generated or should I switch to a liquid cooling solution?
Heat output will always be the same so there will be no difference if using liquid cooling.
You need to pump out the heat from your room to outside, such as aircond or get some fresh air into the room.
Depend on which BIOS. 390 PCS+ BIOS gave me lowest temperature and lowest performance, Tri-X 390x gave me slightly better performance(2-3 fps) and 4c lower temperature. MSI 390x gave me best performance, 12.5k GPU score in 3DMark at 1030/1250, 150x in Heaven 4.0 and 2c lower temp. The XFX BIOS won't work, i can't install any driver and GPU-Z only show blanks.
None of these BIOSes overclock well for me which is expected. No idea.. maybe these 390/390x BIOS have better load adjustment.
wtf
I got around that 12.5k GPU score in 3DMark but mine running at 1150/1500

Fury reviews out. 5-8% slower than Fury X, sounds like 290 & 290X all over again. GTX980 is in an awkward price bracket now. Second hand sellers still asking for RM2k for their GTX980, wow

Because a nice 980Ti aftermarket can be had for 2.9k... It's like 70% faster lol! Not to mention brand new. Also Fury is 2.4-2.5k brand new and faster.

I wonder, did you cap Dota 2 FPS? If not what is your average FPS?
I ran Vsync on so capped at 60fps hahhah. I hate screen tearing, it felt less smooth.

hmm .. what about Sapphire R9 290X Vapor X OC 4Gb i ask RM1.05K is that reasonable.. ? i sold r9 290x Trix OC RM750.. still 60% ask for lower..(but got bombarded with msg.. and guy willing to drive far to do cod..)
Do you need moar GPU power btw? Maybe that die cast extension help reduce the sound noise.
Maybe more on the thicker fan blade dimensions. Can push more air on lower RPMs. I look at my Tri-X and really funny to see how small the blade is, no wonder it's louder when fanspeed more than 45%
haha most of them is on holiday.. get back soon by way this active competitive(nvidia and amd graphic) really get a good 50usd reduction on GTX 980 now that what we all want as END user.. not pity bash/slander..
