Better focus on core speed than memclock speed. 1600+ mem speed is good already

Play around with overvolts. 1.2v is not problem maybe can get 1150-1170mhz, 1.3v can get 1200mhz i guess

If you got aircon, 390 runs pretty darn cool with all those custom cards or custom fans made by almost all manufacturers. Plus it got 8GB VRAM, shadow of mordor, COD Advanced Warfare etc can use those additional VRAM.

Even without aircon, I can still run my 290 Tri-X overclocked to 1150Mhz (stock 290 is 947Mhz, means 21.4% overclock) and memory to 1500Mhz (stock 1250Mhz, 20% overclock). Even with the voltage increase it still runs below 84C without aircon room (ambient temp 32C)

Face it, R9 390 is the new sub 300 dollar GPU king. Talking about PSUs, putting RM400 into better PSU is always good, trust me that you shouldn't even run GTX 970 with those cheap PSUs. Look at this guy with a dead GTX 970 with the first boot. Unlucky his PSU shorted and killed the brand new 970.

Plus you should always use high quality PSUs to run high end parts, even though GTX 970 doesn't use more than 200 watts, it is still considered as high end (counted when it was first released)

Not to mention high quality PSUs have long warranty time, it is not a +RM400 upgrade just to use R9 390, it is a "supposed to use it from the beginning" upgrade.

1200Mhz is the border for 290's overclock... very rare 290 can go above 1200Mhz stable with 1.3v. IINM a user said above 1200Mhz, it needs +100mV for every 50Mhz increase on his 290X (custom watercooled).

No idea on this one. I rarely have coil whines now. Most of the time i only noticed the sound of case fans.

Also, for witcher 3 did you lower the shadow and vegetation to high? Setting those to ultra eat alot performance but hard to see the difference

If you count the core clock and shaders to estimate the performance. A 850Mhz full fiji chip is 97% the speed of 1000Mhz 3584 shader Fury.

That puts it at overclocked GTX980 performance. Not bad

I have to admit I'm apple iPhone fan, but at least it is different from Nvidia, where it doesn't gave me anything special from AMD other than doing questionable things.

Can just turn up the power limit for more performance than normal Fury. But prepare for louder noise.

And yes, GCN cards are very efficient. The only thing is AMD had to set the hawaii and fiji chips to overclocking speeds on stock reference card to match the nvidia's card. That's why it is power hungry

I still wonder why AMD don't want to pursue laptop market with fiji chips. It can be clocked lower and it uses very few components.

Anyone tried the new dota 2 engine?

My R9 290 can't maintain 120fps, GPU usage around 30%+, CPU slightly below 60%. All settings maxed 1080p

While in my cheap laptop with GT 610M, lowest settings at 768p and game render 100%. The fps on average 80+, while on source 1 engine it is only 30fps

It's harder to run on max settings while it is friendly to old pcs

Its the frame cap. I didn't unlock the cap because having 120fps coincide nicely with my 60hz monitor. It's like vsync without the vsync latency. Works well with source 1 dota2. But source 2 dota2 can't maintain 120fps. Maybe need to lower settings zzzz. Not like my card is low end
