Any other older games that going to get DX12 patch? BF4 maybe? GTAV?
*
On top of my head,
Just Cause 3
Arma 3
Squad
ARKs
ESO

Mostly still quite new game. Doubt BF4 will get DX12 treatment since its pretty optimized currently. Not sure about GTAV, Rockstar probably focus more on releasing DLC than porting to DX12.

Is the power consumption really a big deal 'in real life usage'?

Depend on your "real life usage".
How many hours of gaming per week, what game, etc?

Don't be that salty tongue.gif, 970 is a great card but it's more overprice here.
I recommend 970 over 390 to anyone with i3 or below including FX proc.

Maybe 3 hrs per day of gaming. Assuming with high load (dota2 on 390 is overkill)

Typical 390 use 60w-80w more compare to 970.

So that's 7.2kWH extra per month and cost RM1.57 assuming first 200kWh block, RM2.40 if on 2nd 100kWH block and RM2.89 if on 3rd 100kWH block. That if the card is fully loaded for 3 hours straight.

Did you check the FPS? If the FPS is too high sometime you can get coil whine as well so try to limit it with MSI Afterburner or something.

You can limit FPS for each of your games or limit it globally with MSI Afterburner Riva Tuner Statistic Server(RTSS).

You can check top left corner in one of my NFS screenshots.

I use MSI Afterburner to display that.
1st row = Core Clock, Memory Clock, Core Voltage
2nd row = Core Temp, GPU Usage, VRAM Usage
3rd row = FPS, Frametime
4th row = CPU temp, CPU usage(Average), System RAM usage.

I'm planning to get a 390 for GTA V gaming. Can it achieve 60fps stutter-free at ultra quality (including advanced settings such as grass and view distance to max at AA too) at 1080p/60Hz?

even with my overclock watercooled r9 290 in crossfire also hard to achieve 60 fps stable in maxed out setting.. yeah its only on 1080p and on 4790k oc at 4.7ghz . GTA V is CPU intensive games.. fps will drop when lots of things happen on the screen especially with lots of npc and cars..

Not at all.

Let's say you run them on full load 24/7, let's say at 250W AMD card vs 180W Nvidia card.

Gap between them is 70W.

at 70W 24/7, the price difference is around RM 15.

So if you're just gaming 3 hours a day - that comes to about RM 2. biggrin.gif

BUT

Even if you miraculously did 3 hours per day, gaming does not run either cards on full load, so the gap could even be far less.

Oh someone already did that. Yup. LOL I posted mine without seeing this but as you can see it's pretty much around the same figure.

ANSWER - NO.

Refer http://www.goldfries.com/hardware-reviews/...cs-card-review/

GTA V is demanding.
