QUOTE(chiahau @ Jun 26 2015, 03:09 PM) Still thinking if I want to convert because 5xTP is also not too bad though high inflation. I plan to add and not converting. QUOTE(Human Nature @ Jun 26 2015, 03:12 PM) Seems like they have closed down their maybankard FB page. The staff looking after that page was resourceful. Yeah, tried to find just now... Only found Maybank FB page.QUOTE(confuzan @ Jun 26 2015, 03:19 PM) basically merchant pay banks a fee to use their credit card terminal for transaction. (there's also interbank fees where let's say u swipe ocbc card on mbb terminal, there is a fee that ocbc pay maybank or vice versa, something like that) this is why sometimes we get 2% charge when paying by cc, because merchant pass this fee to consumer. the collection of this fees in turn was used by the bank as benefits to cardholders (ie cash bank, treatpoints, contest) these fees get higher as banks offer more benefit, in turn, merchant will charge goods higher price for cc payment. BNM wants to encourage cashless payment, so they enforced a ceiling price for these fees. banks get lower collection from these fees, in turn, less benefit for cardholders. there is a long article for this, but this is my understanding of it. someone correct me if i am wrong please. QUOTE(zaqre @ Jun 26 2015, 03:24 PM) summary: Thanks guys, for the really good summary. bank use interchange fee to fund the rewards(cashback, treatpoint, etc) BNM lower the cap of interchange fee bank can't afford to give the rewards anymore *read the red color text in the spoiler for related info, blue color text for interesting point » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « BNM really has nothing to do eh. |

Yes, during my recent trip in Germany, I have managed to use AmEx everywhere I went so long they accept credit cards.
I stopped asking after I knew the trend of accepting AmEx. First two shops that I went, I will ask do you accept AmEx and the answer was positive. |

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Jun 26 2015, 07:01 PM) from the look of this, the new info havent propagated fully to other "mirror" sites for m2u. sometimes u see it, sometimes you dont. The clause already removed but in the pop up window will show 5% is only for dining. I think Ronnie has shared about this earlier. |

Despite all this, I'll not cancel my Maybank cards. Yes no doubt 5% weekend cash rebate is its main attraction but it has 5xTP and Maybank has a lot of other promos.
Well, think of a brighter side, at least it still retains for dining category. Though it doesn't really benefit me because I'm already having MACH that gives me 24/7 5% dining rebate. I'll try to add Maybank Ikhwan if I'm really that desperate and they are willing to approve my request. That said I'm hoping that Maybank could revoke its decision though I know the chances are pretty slim. This post has been edited by fruitie: Jun 27 2015, 12:53 PM |

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Jun 27 2015, 12:54 PM) I'm still considering because I also have UniFi and TNB bill to pay... Worse comes to worst, maybe just stick to CIMB CR and get 2%. Or I really need to look into HLB Wise and study how it works. |

Looks like UOB and HLB cards will gain the most advantage after Maybank revised its cash back clause.
I really don't like UOB cards but looks like I have no choice to check it out again. Maybank oh Maybank, I'm still putting the least hope on you that you will revoke your decision. |

QUOTE(LittleBear @ Jun 28 2015, 09:59 AM) I just checked the maybank website at 9.58AM & the note was removed. Already removed since yesterday but check out my yesterday's post.So the 5% cash back is still on? https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f...post&p=75103698 |

QUOTE(amxpayne67 @ Jun 28 2015, 10:00 AM) Lets just think what is plausible to happen next. MBB, which is by far, have a large customer base and a lot of them using MBB CC. If MBB removed the clause thats make their CC appear better from the others, there is a chance that other banks will take the same measure. For now people with annual income around 30k+ should study the possibility to get another card, but do not cancel MBB card yet. Like I mentioned MBB2Cards are still worth keeping unless your annual salary is 36k and below because you can only keep two issuing banks' cards and have to think thoroughly which cards to keep.MBB is still having the most promo comparing to other banks. QUOTE(LittleBear @ Jun 28 2015, 10:04 AM) But under their T&C as at 9.58AM, it still says pure weekend cash back. Didn't mentioned about for dining only. Yes, the clause was already removed on Friday's evening in fact but the pop up window will show it's for dining only.Maybank has kinda confirmed from 1st August onward only dining. Still we are hoping for the best. |
