Didnt find it too exciting, but you can go if you have time to spare as it is after all one of the specialties of bangkok!

just back form bkk yesterday. very good place to go but just a little disappointed that didnt know where to eat good food.
for girls, platinum mall i think is the best place to shop for clothes as my gf bought 40 over pieces in this place alone..
overall very satisfied with bangkok and will surely visit again in the future

they have some promotional rate going on at the moment.. at about 2.4k baht or about MYR$240... not sure if that is expensive by its standards in BKK, but i think its good value for money as the rooms are designed with a nice modern touch with such amenities like kitchen facilities & my personal favourite,- an alternative shower head straight down from the ceiling


Comparitively, i bunked a night at one of the suite rooms at Asia Hotel for almost double that price, and frankly it was terrible in comparison... creepy too!

you can get info/forms from most major department stalls or the tourist office. basically for any shop that offers the VAT rebate, you need to spend a minimum of 2000 baht. then to get the refund at the airport the total spending has to be a min of 5000 baht.

other rules is you must enter/leave thailand by air. and i believe min 3 days in thailand.

you get 7% off with the VAT

i'm going bangkok next weekend, 26jan to 1feb.

Rm1k-1.5k should be more than enough if you don't plan to shop much. That is excluding lodging fees.

It is safe to drink beer & watch thaigal show. but it is not save to walk alone in patpong. For safety, ask your thaifren to accompany. No thaifren? watch out each other back. Do not go into any shop to get cheap drinks, some cheat u saying 10 baht a drink, but your bill says USD10. Do u dare argue price in the shop? hehehe....

Get direction to go straight to thai gal show. It's a big building. Then hav your beer somewhere else that is safe and you dun feel threaten.

I stayed in hostel, for privacy i choose private room w double bed, got TV, aircon, hot shower, fridge. No swimming pool, no restaurants, no other facilities, no room service. 1000baht per nite.

I spend less than RM1K(exclude flight) for 5 day bangkok trip.

Added on January 25, 2008, 2:19 pmdun worry too much about speaking thai. Most important you know how to greet "Sawadikap" and always say 10Q "kopkunkap", u are always welcome by thai people. And surprisingly, quite a lot of chinese there, and they speak teochew or mandarin, especially those senior citizen chinese, they speak well.

Thai people understand english, better than u can imagine, but they cannot speak well, mostly very poor broken english. So, it gives an impression as if they cannot understand, but actually not. Young people are much much better in speaking.

So, just use english will do.

well the new tower wing is cleaner.
didn't stay in the old wing before.
but the lobby area is 3-4star level.
rooms are typical 3-4star level as well for tower wing.

others i'm not sure.
because of contacts there i'm usually staying at the expats service condo's.

nana is a confirmed RLD but then most of bangkok is if you go beyond the front façade, because you know lah sex sells and there are lotsa wealthy ang moh with money to spend.

don't worry to much about it being RLD you won't be harassed unless you're looking for it.

hi... i'm chinese and i live in ipoh.. i had been to bangkok for 6d5n and been shopping around and visit the temple and the palace there too..
i had been stay for 2 different place. 1 is at the khoasan road(night life place ..!! nice!!) and 1 is at sukhumvit ...

if u wan to stay at good and budget hotel in khoasan road i can suggest u the :
1)lamphu house(recomemded)
2)rambutri village inn

rambutri village inn is just beside lamphu house and u need to book online cuz these 2 is always full..

if u wan to stay at sumkhumvit i can suggest u the:
1) suk11

suk11 is the backpacker hostel ..the enviroment is very nice. the feeling is u stay in a forest..2 tumbs up..

and we had go to 3 place to shopping..1) chatuchak 2)patphong 3)mbk
for the place u wan to visit
1) chatuchak - very big market, sell many thing in very cheap prices (my gf so happy and shopping whole day in there !! my leg was paralyzz )..but 1 thing is very important when u at chatuchak market...if u got sling bag or backpack ..PLS HANG IT IN FRONT OF YOU !!! cuz there got alot of pickpocket...!! is real because the shop boss himself told us to be careful ..

2) patphong - medium size market ..but thing they are very expensive !! even the thing is very cheap !! u need to bargain with them ..and u need to have good skill on that ..in there u also can see the thaigal show..
1 thing is very funny .. cuz when u walk around the market ..some guy from the bar and pub will give u a list and ask u to come inside their bar and see the show...when u see the list they give u u really wan to laugh ..when u go there u will know...

3) mbk - is a shopping complex..but not spend much time there

i got alot to share with u about my bangkok trip..that time my gf and 1 + 7 more friends together go and no tour guide and we get all the information before we go...

if u wan more information about my trip u can ask me...its FOC cuz i love to travel alot and like to share my experince.. this year i'm planning to go to phi phi island..!! i can give u the fares and wat place u should go ...

1 more thing ...PLS DONT BELIEVE THE TUT-TUT driver !!! They will bring u to other place to buy thing before send u to ur destination !! because they got commision when they send u there buy things..!! Dont believe them
