Thailand is way safer then in Malaysia, if that says enough for you. Roaming around is totally fine, safe enough for me to say so. But it doesn't hurt to be cautious of course, no where is totally safe.
I just came back from there and it was only me and 2 other girls. So your batch of 5 is fine. The rest is all typical traveling advice. |

Ahhh, yeah I think I know that one, went there when I was small?
Last one I went to, had to drive out quite a bit from BKK. Mom said its the most biggest and popular one that locals go to, and well, starting to be a tourist attraction too. |

QUOTE(Motormouth @ Jul 22 2009, 11:45 AM) for Platinum Mall, make sure to go earlier, as it closes about 8.00pm (Thailand time), but starting from 6-7pm, most Yeah, it does close at 10. SOME shops start to close at around 930 though.stalls will be closing. we learnt this the hard way .... and Chatuchak opens from morning, but don't go too early. we had breakfast there at about 10-11am, and yet most stalls remained close. the shopping malls not so sure, but Central World opens til rather late, about 10pm if I'm not mistaken. |

Errr... in terms of malls -> MBK, Central world or any of the centrals for that matter, the 3 Siam malls (they are all connected), paragon... those should be the major ones.
Then theres suan lum, chatuchak, floating markets. |

They are all close enough to get to. BTS is your best friend
Uh, theres lotsa clothes there, so you might want to look around 1st. But they are all pretty much around the same prices for the same clothings ( I think they are all supplied by the same supplier). Negotiating is how good you really are though, but 30% bout a safe bet I guess. How much they are really worth... I dunno. |

QUOTE(happy4ever @ Jul 23 2009, 07:07 PM) Not really. Exactly right. Standard of living is cheaper there. locally made products and food are cheaper than locally made products in malaysia. But their imported ones are expensive. Food can be cheap too, provided you know where to find. Anyhow, will be in Ayuthaya for the whole month of Sept. Certain imported products can be cheaper. But generally would be more exp. Cars are a bit more affordable there too. Have fun at Ayuthaya! Culture rich there. |

My take on the H1N1 issue- If singapore took out their screening, I'd say its safe enough. But then again, I think the newspaper recently reported 7 recent deaths from the virus?

QUOTE(DrezzUp @ Aug 12 2009, 04:46 PM) I think is Tha Tien pier or after tis pier. But becareful, as you walk down to the palace there are a lot of con man or cheaters to tell u palace is close for official function. try to take you to somewhere else & charge you. Just ignore them Ah, had those con mans before. Very true, they try to tell you that the palace is closed and all.. Then tell you to go to some pier or something and charge you ridiculous prices, the boat trips are actually pretty cheap if you are just going across, the boat ride that goes around the river is a bit more though. Added on August 12, 2009, 4:51 pm if u are worry too much abt H1N1, I suggest you dun go if your kids & parents has medical condition such as asthma, obesity, lung or hearts problem and others. If you are strong, it will only cos you just like normal flu. Take prevention like wearing a mask. Get a N95 mask or 3 ply surgical mask.Take lots of vitamin C. Bring along a 50ml dettol sanitiser or wet wipes. You can carry them to the flights. Wash yr hand after toilets, before food or when is dirty. The one that came up to us even wore a police cap of sorts, so don't be convinced by it. |

No, read carefully. I said a CAP not a police suit
All the tourist sights around the grand palace are in walking distance or need a boat ride (but close enough still). Look at the maps, really easy. |

Suam Lum night bazaar closes very late actually. Since some will only start opening at like 8 or 9. Definitely won't close at midnight.

Actually, some of the best (and ridiculously cheap) thai food I had was at the floating market. Was about 2 hrs away though, past the area where you can catch seafood at the beach.
Hey panda, you going to bkk on nov? |

Go for the tom yum! They are all in stalls, kinda like going to a ming tien or something. So just look look and pick what you want.
Don't recall what the floating market was called again... Will get back when I talk to my mom again, she was the one that took us around. Hmmm, well its pretty much taking the clams outta the beach/sea bed. Not exactly the most exciting, but its worth a try once for the experience. And you can get quite a bucketful! Which you can bring back to steam and eat Pandar - What exhibition was it? My sister was talking bout it but never mentioned what it actually was -__- But yeah, will be going there again on nov, weather should still be blazing hot I think. Hahaha yeah, its fine, Suam Lum isn't very far from where I stay. This post has been edited by vermins: Oct 14 2009, 05:17 PM |
